asians are pretty much still outsiders in pop culture, society, and business
it'll be some time before we're as "integrated" other ethnicities who have been here longer
dont know if that's the reason for the suggestion for not 'mingling' but that thought by itself i agree.
for Asians, who as an ethnicity have been in this country for over 200yrs, and the ONLY ethnicity for which a FEDERAL law was applied (talk about racist land of the free?) to exclude them from coming to USA after some had come and thrived... we have ZERO progress in culture and society (MEDIA) and law.
In business yes as in private business but not in Corporate America.
Here's a point...
A black friend of mine bashed a TV show that's about a Spanish family (GeorgeLopez) and said hey, what's this show on for that NO ONE CAN RELATE TO....
I'm like whoa, perhaps Spanish people can relate to it, but if your point is that whites and you-black can't thats fine... because in that train of thought then there is Friends, Wings, Frasier, GoldenGirls ('White shows') and there was Martin and a bunch of 'black' sitcoms etc.
But for you to say a Spanish show shouldn't be on cuz no one can relate... guess what, an Asian cannot relate to ANYTHING ON TV.
And why, because we have no influence in writing, scripts, screenplays, editors, directors, production houses, nothing.
Asians need a 'MEDIA MOGUL' like Russell Simmons or a pioneer like SpikeLee.
It doesn't help that stiffs like Vera Wang or Connie Chung have done ZERO for Asians.
Heh heh, for us to 'take some time' to get integrated.... Sad ain't it?
It hasn't taken Puerto Ricans very long, the influx came in the 1950's, along with Cubans etc, not 200yrs ago like Chinese (orginally from Canton etc.)
Now you have people like Jennifer Lopez and Lantina magazines, TV shows on Sunday talking about Latino culture, annual Parades down 5th Avenue in New York... Well, the Columbus Circle parade molestation thing a few years ago sucked.. but.
