what current printer is linux compatible?

Although CUPS configurations can suck, I have always felt like I haven't had a problem finding a driver for most printers. It is just a question of getting it to work right. Just do your research on the model you would like to buy before heading to the store, and verify a PPD exists before you...

Interesting path. Sounds like arch might be a better fit for me... but it would take way to long for me to switch distros on my workstations at this point. I'll try it at home (reinstall soon). Thanks for the info.

That webpage is pretty hilarious. I don't disagree with it either, but honestly it is one of those things where it would take way too much time to switch distros at this point considering everything works fine as it is now. Honest question though: what is the most popular distro for the users...

Better yet, I can get rid of off-topic the same way! (&exclude=24&exclude=14) sweet.

So no one on these forums has any love for Gentoo? I run XFCE on Gentoo at work and like it just because that is what I am used to. But I have been thinking I might try something else at home sometime soon. Thanks to all the suggestions in this thread that might be a difficult decision to make!

computer powers off my screen when entering sleep mode

Huh?? Why wouldn't you want it to?? Are you saying it won't turn the screen back on when you wake it from sleep? Are you trolling the help forum and I really shouldn't reply to this (if so sorry to everyone else)?

How do you disable country specific URL redirect?

That service (GeoBytes) looks useful, but why does it show your life expectancy? haha.

[video] guy tracks down and confronts dude who stole his bike

Not that the Daily Mail story means it is true, but who knows. I do personally know a person that had their bike stolen here in Iowa City, but posted enough details about the bike on Facebook that it was recovered 3 days later by a friend (Helps that she knows a large number of bicyclists)...

[video] guy tracks down and confronts dude who stole his bike

If it's staged, are the police in on it? If it is staged, I'd be pissed at how much of their time was wasted. It does seem a bit fishy, for example the way he describes how he knows it is his bike (all of those items he listed are very common and anyone could have purchased and installed -- I...

    Excessive use of bandwidth

I may be wrong here, but could the upload usage simply be the sum total of all of the ACKs for your streaming? At 1.96% of the size of the downloads, that seems reasonable to me considering I am sure that some of that total must be actual data uploads like you mentioned. If I were smart enough...

Corrupted files and sluggish harddrive behavior, but all test say good to go.

Can you explain the purpose of each of those switches? I am having a similar issue with one of my machines and I have run chkdsk without those switches and it doesn't detect problems. I also am running WinXP though so perhaps this won't apply to me?

    Politics... ugh

Is there any way to totally disable the politics threads from showing up ever? I am most interested in disabling them from "regular search" (not advanced) and "New Posts"? I just never want to see them. I am on enough forums where politics are way too zealously discussed and typically in a...
