$40 is for the entrée, aka Prologue. You'll have to pay another $60 for the main course when it comes out sometime next year. They did this w/ GT4 on PS2.

No, you won't get any kind of discount. But seriously, at first I was hesitant about buying what looked to be simply a huge demo, but it's a bit more than that. Plus, the full GT5 is over a year away at least, and how many times before have I bought a game for $50/$60, only to buy basically the same fucking game the next year? (i.e Madden, Tony Hawk, numerous other games, etc..)

I'll gladly pay $40 for this package, then $60 next year for the full. I should easily get $40 of enjoyment out of this over the next year. Now if the full GT5 was going to be released in October or something, I'd definitely wait. But they've already said that the full GT5 will not be ready until at least this time next year (could be a marketing ploy, but I don't think they'd out-and-out lie).

Raced some more tonight, and I must say, this game is the reason I fucking bought a PS3. I don't care if it is just a prologue. Everything just feels so right and so polished, it actually only makes me want the full game right now. Such a gorgeous game, and the control is spot on. I've been racing through the C class events with my Integra using professional controls, and I love it. I wish that damn Logitech G25 wheel wasn't $250, or I'd pick it up.

I did find another thing I don't like, is that all the races I've started thus far have been rolling starts, and they start your lap time sometimes as much as 10-12 seconds before you even get control of the car. I guess maybe the time starts when the first car crosses the start line, but it's kind of stupid to penalize me on my lap time by that much when I haven't even reached the start line, let alone have control of the car.

I don't like downloadable versions for one reason alone, you can't resell them.

Only in f---ing Japan, though.

Fixed to fit your trend of one random f-bomb per post. :p

Haha, I've noticed myself doing that lately. I think it's because I've been posting in my personal forums a lot more with my friends, and we curse like it's a hobby. :)

Pending on my job situation next month, I'm definitely getting the PS3 w/ the G25 wheel for GT5:p. Nothing like simulation driving for "cheap." Heel toe GT5, ZOMG!

FYI gies:

CAR TUNING:
=========

You can tune cars in the Pro races. You essentially have a maximum Performance Point level, such as 550, 600 & 700. You can allocate PPs to power, less weight, aero. Other settings such as Gear ratios, camber, toe in/out can all be set without costing points.

This is interesting as entering a REALLY fast car means you have to de-tune it to compete, so fastest cars are not always best in a race.

I played the game for a few hours yesterday and I can easily conclude one things--I F-ing SUCK at these sim racers. :p

But, despite that, I really really can appreciate whats going on here. It just makes much more sense with everything in English (some of you might remember that I imported the game).

It's a lot of fun.

One thing that's bugging me is that there are no meters to help people like me (automobile challenged) determine the speed, power, torque, and other specifications of cars. The only thing I have to help determine is the price of the game. Didnt previous GTs provide this information?

Are you able to download other people's tuning setups?

So, what's the consensus of GT5 vs Forza 2? I'm trying to decide between Hot Shots Golf and GT5 as my next PS3 game and I'm trying to decide if I'd actually play GT5 enough (I stopped regularly playing Forza 2 within the first month or two of owning it). Does it feel limiting with only 6 tracks? Graphically, I'm assuming GT5 is better than Forza 2 (though Forza 2 is no slouch, in my opinion). Are the GT5 driving physics same/better/worse? How does it feel driving with the gamepad?

No, but I have not checked to see if their settings are exposed when you DL ghost data from other racers.

When in tuning mode you get bar charts for speed, accel, etc.

But there is no simple way to compare these attributes before buying a car, correct?

I hope they implement that. I can handle buying parts to improve performance, but the actual tuning part in Forza 2 is not something I've ever ventured into. It's kind of overwhelming, and I lack the knowledge to make a good setup. Usually if I'm having a hard time with a race, I'll check the leaderboards to see what cars made the fastest times (it's usually the same car or two filling all of the top spots), then I download one of their tuning setups and duplicate it. It's such a simple feature, but the payoff is huge for people like me.

How did it play? Any problems like lag, etc.?

i got disconnected once, it boots you out of the game. i didnt feel the lag at all, which is really wierd because us islanders usually feel it pretty hard no matter what. they did a great job with the netcode me thinks.

when you buy the car during the color selection it scrolls some specs on the bottom of the screen like a news ticker. horsepower, torque, and weight i think? havent really paid attention to it.

Yep, right on. It shows simple stuff at the bottom. I also was a little confused yesterday as to what car to buy, so since there were so few cars in the game, I built a spreadsheet today at work with all the cars, price, drivetrain, horsepower, torque, and weight. I'm going to format it tonight and was planning on posting it up for anybody to look at.

So if you want, wait for me to post that tonight in order to get a quick look at everything without taking an hour going through the dealership.
