Yes, but while in split screen, you can't use the in-car view.

After being excited about this one for a while now, I'm actually considering waiting until they patch in online lobbies. One of the big draws for me is 16-player online races, but right now, you can't match up with your friends, nor is the voice chat from what I've heard. Both are supposedly being patched in at a later time. I've been spoiled by Live, I absolutely need voice chat, and pre-race lobbies should be an absolute given in any multiplayer game released in this day and age.

Ok--spent about an hour with the game yesterday. It looks vary purdy. It appears that they fixed some of the framerate and tearing issues from the Japanese version.

Now that they have released more PRO level online races the ramming is MUCH lower. This is mostly due to the penalties for ramming being quite high (4-8 second restriction on speed depending on some factor I know nothing about!), but I have had 'ramming' penalties when people have rammed me, and that pisses me off. Also you can pick up a 'shortcut' penalty if you get rammed off line, but you develop techniques to prevent this.

All in all the higher penalty games are better, but I still go back to the ramming battles from time-to-time because, weel, they can be fun, and running with the quicker cars such as the Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo and Ford GT LM Spec II mean if you get clear air and drive smoothly you have won.

I'd be interested to hear more of your thoughts as you play more. I think I've decided that I'm going to pick it up during lunch today.

I love it. most notable besides physics(which is just about what they had in gt hd) is the AI, computer drivers no longer drive on rails.

So you can't upgrade the cars....at all?

Someone please explain this to me....do you get to "tune" the cars on some level(representing groups of parts) or is there nothing?

Take this with a grain of salt, but I saw some people chatting in another forum about the fact that later on there is some tuning allowed. In the beginning, there is none. Blah...

Is there a US demo?

I don't believe so.

The download is 1.9GB per PS3 Fanboy.

But there's a Japanese demo, right? Is there a Europe demo? I have a Europe account, don't feel like creating a Japan account.

Yep, you basically have to get to a certain point (I think you have to beat the first 3 classes) before you can start to tune cars. You're looking at a few hours before getting to tune pretty much.

Bought the blu-ray version today, installing now. Can't wait to see it in 1080p!

EDIT: Jesus fucking christ, after the 20-minute install, now it's taking forever to download and install an update. I know it's just an hour of my time only the first time I throw in the game, but I miss the days when a console was a console, and you could play a game simply by popping the disc in the first time and playing immediately.

Be prepared to be stunned--it looks amazing. It's so absolutely crisp that it makes the jaggies really stand out (to me).

But over all is quite impressive.

I've never been really sensitive to jaggies, so I'm sure I won't mind or even see them. A lot of people bitched that Halo 3 needed anti-aliasing in the worst way, but I never saw jaggies unless I stood still and looked for them.

Cool--maybe you'll not notice it then.

Well, the update failed while I was in here being pissed off, so even though the update says it may delete replay and save data, I just had to get a couple of races in to give it a whirl before I attempt to download again. In 1080p, the jaggies are everywhere in the dealership views, but after that, I never notice them in the background of the menu screens or during a race unless I specifically look for them.

But this game is GORGEOUS!! It's so fucking pretty I just want to cry :p. The controls feel spot on, as well, and the two tracks I've raced thus far are great. The menus are slick as hell, easy to navigate. After you buy your first car, the main menu turns into a showcase for whatever car you have selected, which is gorgous. It shows a calendar, temperature in differing parts of the world, and a bunch of other shit.

The in-game music is horrendous, and I recommend everyone turn them off ASAP :). I also would like to see my lap times after a race is over, but I didn't see an option to do that anywhere in the events mode.

The sound is fantastic as usual, the surround sound works great. I switched my sound from the default living room to small theater. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but everything sounds great. The only thing I've always hated about GT games in in the sound department is the squeeling noise going around corners when you're losing traction. I just always thought that sounded so unrealistic, but then again, I don't think I've ever taken a turn in real life where my tires squealed, so what do I know.

I wish this update would hurry up and get done so I can race some more. I can't wait to unlock everything, then start grinding for the Ferrari F1 car :D.

I was reading somewhere that the downloaded version is inferior? This true? What is better about the blu-ray version?

So, anybody have any details on what happens when they release the full version? If you spend $40 on this, do you only spend $20 to upgrade to the full version, whatever it's called?

The BRD version comes with an 2 HD videos that you would otherwise had to DL, and since it's a disk--can be played in any profile. I heard someone state that the DL version is locked to one profile. Sounds fishy to me though because all the games I purchased from the PSN are playable in other profiles.

Hopefully someone can chime in with their experiences.
