I wouldnt say its a waste. I only played combat mission, and a game or two of TDM. Its like COD, combined with the choke points on the infantry maps in Battlefield, like B on Bazaar, while under the pretense of something like Rainbow 6. Its hard to describe. Maybe Army of Two should be thrown in there, because of the two man team stuff. If you play with someone using voice, and you select your classes to complement each other, it would be very deadly. On TDM I would let my team mate lead, and when he got shot I would clean up. hahaha teamwork!
I exited the game and fooled around with the My Gun and My Soldier stuff in the menus last night, and I think part of the problem was I was using the spec ops class. He has no armor at all, which is probably why I lost more CQ fights than I'm used to. I think his weapons are weaker as well. But its strange...you can customize your gun to death (once you unlock the items), but secondaries are fixed. Pointman for example, has a 870 as a secondary. The sniper has a G18. They also put scopes on your guns, but you cant strip them off. Well, there are variants of guns. MK18 SAS has a scope. The Canadian version doesnt. Buts its not considered the same gun, so you have to unlock two sets of attachments.
Killstreaks also seem tied to your class. The aim seems a little weird. There are times where I would have killed a guy at range, using bursts in MoH 2010 and BF3, but I wasnt even close. Some of it is rust, and maybe the MK18 has no range, but wtf.
There might be a lot of depth to the game, once you get past the UI, but the bugs almost ruin it for me. And the UI is cluttered, and yet still missing features. I joined Vulgar last night, but it didnt put me on his team. It was mid game, so I figured the next game I would be switched over. It didnt do it automatically, and there is no way to manually switch over. No way to switch fireteams either, so if you are stuck with a bum its until one of you leaves the game. I played 3 games with a guy who kept going 2-15. He wouldnt get into cover when I tried to spawn on him. He would take off running when I ran to either heal him or myself. It was quite frustrating. I'm thinking he didnt notice the UI telling him these things, as I didnt for awhile.
And OMG, the VOIP blast at the end of rounds. I turned the sound on everything down to 25%, and it still rapes my ears. While I dont love the game like I thought I would, I dont necessarily hate it either. I just hope they support this better than MoH 2010 and address a lot of these issues.
