Just started playing and having a blast. I rolled a Human Torch and finding him quite good, especially for a starter character.

Overall decent game but I find the map locations are taking a bit getting used to. Could just be me tho. I do prefer the way DC Universe connects all the locations better. But that is my only real gripe and not really a major one at that. And considering its free lets see if I get used to.

Overall one of the better F2P games I have tried recently.

Well I had 200 splinters and was all ready to buy Taskmaster but I decided to random instead. Ended up with Nightcrawler!

And how do you like Nightcrawler?

I picked up Psylocke, and she is one that takes a bit to develop.

Only played Nightcrawler for 20 minutes or so, but he seems cool so far. I may level him next after I get Scarlet Witch to 60.

Until you get <insert hero name here>... ;)

Heh, maybe. I'm currently saving up for Iron Man (now ~430 splinters), but I usually prefer mele types. ...though I am a fan of pew pew if the the pew pew is fun.

I was enjoying Deadpool melee, but his caltrops/lunge/stabby/sting bomb typical build really starts to feel clunky. I'm hoping when they update him, it starts to feel more fluid.

My plan was for Jean Grey. And while fun and powerful initially, she gets pretty boring fast. She has only one viable build, and it is just pure Phoenix. Waiting for her to be retooled.

Nightcrawler has an amazing set that combines full map near-instant AoE by telelporting around and covering everything with Infernal Brimstone, and Just Flash and Grab everything into those fields and watch them melt. Or you sit in one field then whittle all mobs, anyway, with your 1 or 2 mele attacks (direct or multi targets). ....I do the full screen fields for X Defense. Otherwise, I just camp in a spot and pull everything that moves into my trap and beat them silly. It's very satisfying. That, on top of the fact that he can bamf across entire maps in a manner of seconds--even through any passable object, is amazing. It's really hard to play a less-mobile hero after him. Deadpool's Bodyslide is great, but I feel like it is bugged--I often have to double activate to get it to work. It's also very spendy on the spirit pool (As is all of Nightcrawler's stuff, but you pretty much want to focus on building his spirit pool/regen/cost reduction. Do that with Deadpool, and you lose his tankiness).

Anyway, Nightcrawler is my jam for now (amazing mix of mele and AoE is just very unique and fun). I managed to get past my last ~2 random purcahses with saved splinters and not gamble, so I must still be having fun.

Played Nightcrawler up to level 17 last night. He's pretty fun so far! I really love the teleporting characters. Scarlet Witch also has that teleport so I've been used to it with her. I'll probably play Nightcrawler at least up the same level as Scarlet Witch (she's 40 I believe), and then decide which one to take to 60 first.

Got enough sentinel parts to craft that level 60 unique last night. All I need is one more arm to craft another. I know some people's sentinel drops sucked, but I did pretty well! :D

I've had one sentinel limb drop. that, and the 2 free limbs they gave away in that chest. I haven't really been looking for the parts. If they have fallen in loot, I would have probably missed them. I tend to ignore purples now. THe sentinels overall are just really annoying right now. IF they werent' so huge and obsucring everything and messing up my targetting, I wouldn't mind. but when they just start raining nonstop I leave the map.

I don't like that unique, so I'm not too bothered by the crap drop rates. I would like to craft a few of those pets, though, to give to vendors for leveling.

I have one of the mini-sentinels in my inventory. Do they give a lot of crafter xp?

I think they are valued at 10k credits/XP. that's what the descriptions says, iirc.

Not a lot comapared to the pets from the shard vendor, or the money crates that you can get exchanging dupe uniques, but it's still pretty good if you have low level vendors. At least, the drop rates on parts had been reported as broken, and they were supposed to be fixed. If they dropped more regularly, it would be super easy to get several of those and level your crafters/vendors.

Wish they were actual pets though. Would be cool to have a little sentinel in tow.

FYI...

If you have the stash space, you might want to consider holding on to uniques. Especially dupes.

Starting at crafter level 15, you get recipes that let you exchange unique items.
Level 15: Exchange 3 duplicate unique items (any level) for a random unique item.
Level 16: Exchange 4 duplicate unique items (any level) for a random unique for the currently active hero.
Level 17: Exchange 5 duplicate unique items (any level) for a random "Any Hero" unique item.

You'll also get gear upgrade recipes, the first of which will allow you to upgrade any unique lower than level 40 to level 40.

yep--I've been using those--stash space certainly being the real problem. I think upgrading to level 40 is fine, but the recipes to upgrade to 50 then to 60 are absurdly expensive. much easier, and cheaper, to get another drop, I think. ....though If I never get another shark for NC (current is level 53), I might splurge and upgrade that one. Everything else--his boots and gloves, drop constantly. ...Oh, I need another sword upgrade as well.

Well I kinda made a fool of myself during this BOGO. Hoping to cheap my way to Dr Strange or Ms Marvel i bought 3 450g heroes

Taskmaster got Nightcrawler bogo but I already had him
Storm got Dare Devil
Hawkeye got Punisher

Punisher and Dare Devil don't interest me much so I probably wont play them.

Then i tried my luck at a costume. Bought one for scarlet witch and got one for cable who i don't own.

So a bit disappointed I hemmed and hawed for an hour and then said screw it and bought Ms Marvel and got.... Captain America who was my starter hero :(

I don't think I'll gamble again for awhile

Updated the OP with the Odin's Bounty event. I also cleaned up and reorganized the OP a good bit. Should be more readable and useful I hope.

Also BOGO Heroes & Costumes through the in-game store through June 4th - as always, BOGO only applies to heroes and costumes purchased with REAL MONEY transactions via the in-game store, not splinters.

Storm: STORM DUPE! :D

damn it all

out of 5 random boxes so far (splinters with earlier ones), I've gotten 4 of the cheap heroes.

I guess I shouldn't say that last night I intentionally bought Scarlet Witch and BOGO'd Dr. Strange. Which happened to be exactly. the. hero. I. wanted. On my first try.

Second and final purchase was Black Widow and BOGO'd Luke Cage.

I haven't received a dupe character yet, at least not since back in the early early days when characters still randomly dropped and my random play reward was Hawkeye which I already had. Still, remember, dupes aren't a BAD thing. You get an Ultimate Upgrade token out of it.

Anyway, I'm holding on to the rest of my G just in case next week whatever they do with the anniversary equates to a sale on STASH space. It will probably be the only time they do that, if at all.
