Wow, I don't recall that scene looking so fake lol.

It's a pruny old man firing magic lightning bolts out of his fingertips standing next to a cybernetic laser sword wielding man wearing a cape.

I think that's going to be impossible to not look fake.

He's already pissed on the trilogy by releasing the special editions. I supposed he's compelled to complete the circle by taking a dump on it as well.

Lucas didn't make this

NOTE: The video is not from the blu-ray, I just synced up the leaked audio clip with existing video.

I've never brought it up before. And just because the resolution of the film is sufficient that doesn't mean it's free of artifacts and "fuzz". There's lots of old movies transfered to blu ray through film and you can tell the gap in camera technology used back in the day vs. now. Today's cameras and tech provide a much cleaner picture vs. the old days. Blowing up those artifacts to blu ray just enhances it.

I'm not saying all old movies look like garbage and all newer movies look glorious, but I'm just stating that just because the resolution is enough doesn't mean it'll be perfect.

Do you even know what an artifact is? I assume you're talking about digital compression artifacts. 35mm film is not digital and does not have compression artifacts.

If you're talking about imperfections, you're just wrong. There are movies of varying quality for decades and decades. As I said before, 2001 A Space Odyssey is from 1968 and looks better than almost any movie from the 70s or 80s. This was purely attributable to the quality of the film stock and cinematography. The practical effects look even better than the CG effects of most late-90s movies. (check the floating pen scene).

another post about "changes" in the blu-ray version. The one with the tie-fighters is supposed to be official as it was released by LA but the others are still up in the air

You can get the unedited trilogy. It's a collectors item for $100 from sellers on ebay or can be had on the down low. OH and GL can DIF for all I care. Its obvious those "evil producers" were the real film makers back when they were bankrolling him and made changes to his retardation. Now he has the power he's straight to video.

eh, his primary role for Empire and Jedi (the only good ones) was as an "evil producer."

He had enough sense at the time to accept the fact that he is:

1. a horrible writer
2. a horrible director (he openly admits that he generally dislikes people)

pump out the ideas and let the talent take over. Kind of like Stephen King...

now, he just doesn't care any more, and is perfectly willing to shit over everything which he hath wrought. Honestly, I respect him for that. :)

They're not dealing with Betamax here, they're dealing with film.

They would be re-transferring from the original film, a non-digital medium that doesn't really translate into various levels of "definition."

The blu-ray will be a major improvement from DVD.

yep.

Watch the making-of featurettes on the prequel DVDs. All he does is sit in a camp chair sipping his Starbucks in front of a gigantic green screen. The actual shooting is very low key. Everything else is digitally rendered in post production. The prequels suck because he became a lazy director. "Well the dialogue is horrible and the acting isn't very good, but we'll fix that in post with special effects to cover it up." Lucas, you've become Michael Bay! For shame.

Lucas is a notorious micromanager. Another thing evident in the featurettes. Rather than rely on the talent of his crew, he tries to do it all himself. The guy literally stands over people constantly like he's directing a bunch of novice film students rather than seasoned veterans. I've said it before, but you cannot make movies that way. It's just too big a job.

Who cares. I didn't read the description.

The prequel trilogy was bad. The special edition edits were unneeded. It's not that far of a stretch to think he had made these changes as well...

Well the uploader put up a new YT video, this time from the bluray (which has made it out to the internet today). The audio is in synch now.

The New York Times has an article up with a Lucasfilm confirmation of the change. Count me as supremely disappointed.

At this point, how can it be anything other than hilarious? Disappointment ended several years and many alterations ago.

No I'm not talking about digital compression artifacts, I'm talking about natural degredation of the film that might be visible in the transfer if the film wasn't well preserved. If it's been properly treated and the original film is still of flawless quality with no degredation at all, then it'll look fine. If not, or if it's poorly done, then it has the potential to blow up any little marks the film may have due to age.

Yes, the people claiming the original video was a fake need to learn to read themselves. It said the VIDEO wasn't from the Blu-Ray, but the audio WAS (it got leaked by a presumably annoyed Lucas employee) and he just synced them up. It is real, and has since been confirmed by Lucasfilm.

hahahahahahhaha.

Though I'm sure his madness is not yet complete. there will be 4k releases down the line, and terrible 3D releases before that.

I was going to jokingly ask why he hasn't yet bothered to "update" the prequels, but it appears that he has tossed in a CGI Yoda for Phantom Menace.

The humanity!

:D
