I kinda hope this is true, just for the lulz.

His insanity is epic. I honestly hope that Jar-jar makes an appearance as a half-robot dark jedi, or bounty hunter--maybe CGI him into the scene on Vader's ship in Empire when he's dishing orders to the bounty hunters.

Maybe Jar-jar steps on Boskk's foot, or something (even dark jedi robot Jar-jar is still a klutz), which would explain why Boskk slurps and grimaces in the original version--for SEEMINGLY NO REASON!
see, now it would make sense. Dark jedi Jar-jar the bounty hunter was supposed to step on Boskk's foot and make him grumpy.

that would be the greatest thing, ever.

*whew!*Thanks, HendrixFan. I've waited years for the entire series to be released on BluRay. I know it contains the "Han shot first" edit from the DVD box set, but I'm OK with that. The video quality of BR makes up for that one niggle. Besides, I know damn well who shot first. I was very happy w/the DVD box set; I'm sure I'll be elated watching all six movies in 1080p!

meh.

I'm still waiting for the proper DVD release.

OMG... Dark JarJar. Brilliant! The most innocent, happy character turned into something the audience would never expect...nor accept. Classic Lucas-buggery1!!!!!!

You can get the unedited trilogy. It's a collectors item for $100 from sellers on ebay or can be had on the down low. OH and GL can DIF for all I care. Its obvious those "evil producers" were the real film makers back when they were bankrolling him and made changes to his retardation. Now he has the power he's straight to video.

"Did George Lucas rape my childhood?", I think my comedian friend Paul Jay put it best when he said, "George Lucas didn't rape your childhood. He just jerked off and made your childhood watch."http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jonathan-kim/the-people-vs-george-lucas_b_863508.html

Why would anyone want a bluray version of a movie that's so old the transfer wouldn't be anywhere near HD?

They're not dealing with Betamax here, they're dealing with film.

They would be re-transferring from the original film, a non-digital medium that doesn't really translate into various levels of "definition."

The blu-ray will be a major improvement from DVD.

I heard it has the "Greedo-shot-first" edit from the so-called "Special Editions."

Call me crazy, but I'm certainly not going to trust a group that can't even find the original version of the film. I don't think they'll do the transfer well, and I certainly don't want anything to do with the special editions.

Have we not corrected you on this point before? 35mm film has much more detail than even 1080p. In fact, 4k resolution is the only acceptable way to archive it.

Sure, they used variable quality stock through the years. I was blown-away by 2001 A Space Odyssey, a 1960s film, while some films from the 80s look like garbage (Predator).

I've never brought it up before. And just because the resolution of the film is sufficient that doesn't mean it's free of artifacts and "fuzz". There's lots of old movies transfered to blu ray through film and you can tell the gap in camera technology used back in the day vs. now. Today's cameras and tech provide a much cleaner picture vs. the old days. Blowing up those artifacts to blu ray just enhances it.

I'm not saying all old movies look like garbage and all newer movies look glorious, but I'm just stating that just because the resolution is enough doesn't mean it'll be perfect.

I'd buy that in a second if true. However GL never came out with a proper release of the original trilogy. He released the original trilogy on DVD without the edits, but it wasn't in the original aspect ratio. Why did Lucas do that? Because he's an asshole.

If the original film is stored properly and the studio puts the work in to do a proper transfer, the results will look amazing on BD. If you want an example, check out 1939s Wizard of Oz or 1962s James Bond - Dr No. Absolutely amazing transfers, and look like movies filmed today that were set back in those days. The artifacts can be cleaned up as part of the transfer process, but it is expensive to do properly. Again, use the examples I listed above for a proper transfer.

Lucas could have put the time in the transfer, but I heard he's using the same transfer used for the DVD (he didn't go back to the original film). Hopefully just a rumor, but I wouldn't put it past Lucas.

Actually, I do too. I've long said that besides the fact that he is a greedy and senile old bastard, Lucas likes to see how desperate his fans are. It is kind of like that old Ross Perot sketch on Saturday Night Live, where he is in a mall and paying passersby money to humiliate themselves (bark like a dog on all fours, etc). I think Lucas enjoys seeing what kind of crap he can dish out and still have people buy it. I think he can crap in a box, put the Star Wars logo on it, and it would sell millions.

His greed is epic.

FTFY.

Might as well just remake episodes 4, 5 and 6.

Updated cast:
Luke Skywalker - Owen Wilson
Han Solo - Chris Kattan
Chewbacca - Sasha Barren Cohen (he will look more like a furry than a walking carpet)
Leia - Mila Kunis
C3PO - Perez Hilton (just him wearing gold clothing and gold make up)
R2D2 - Is now a hologram projection,... who will project a hologram message from Leia in episode 4
Darth Vadar - Samuel Jackson
Lando - Cee Lo Green
Obi Wan Kenobi - Alan Cummings in old person make up
The Emporer - Christopher Walken

The Death Star will be a Death Comet now.

The Millinium Falcon will resemble the Winnabago from Space balls

And, the Ewoks will remain as is - untouched. In fact, the will use the original costumes in whatever condition they are in,.. no updates/fixes whatsoever.
