are the names of our prisons correctional facilities or punishment facilities? i'd think that solitary confinement for 20 years would be a worse sentence than execution, and might rehabilitate at the same time.

the price for keeping murders and rapists in prison is the price we pay to try to stay as civilized a society as possible. here's a list of the countries that still have the death penalty:

AFGHANISTAN, ALGERIA, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, ARMENIA, BAHAMAS, BAHRAIN, BANGLADESH, BARBADOS, BELARUS, BELIZE, BENIN, BOTSWANA, BURUNDI, CAMEROON, CHAD, CHINA, COMOROS, CONGO (Democratic Republic), CUBA, DOMINICA, EGYPT, EQUATORIAL GUINEA, ERITREA, ETHIOPIA, GABON, GHANA, GUATEMALA, GUINEA, GUYANA, INDIA, INDONESIA, IRAN, IRAQ, JAMAICA, JAPAN, JORDAN, KAZAKSTAN, KENYA, KOREA (North), KOREA (South), KUWAIT, KYRGYZSTAN, LAOS, LEBANON, LESOTHO, LIBERIA, LIBYA, MALAWI, MALAYSIA, MAURITANIA, MONGOLIA, MOROCCO, MYANMAR, NIGERIA, OMAN, PAKISTAN, PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, PHILIPPINES, QATAR, RWANDA, SAINT CHRISTOPHER & NEVIS, SAINT LUCIA, SAINT VINCENT & GRENADINES, SAUDI ARABIA, SIERRA LEONE, SINGAPORE, SOMALIA, SUDAN, SWAZILAND, SYRIA, TAIWAN, TAJIKISTAN, TANZANIA, THAILAND, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, TUNISIA, UGANDA, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, UZBEKISTAN, VIET NAM, YEMEN, ZAMBIA, ZIMBABWE

decide for yourself if you like most of the countries in this group and share similar values.

Any Bleeding Hearts Against Execution Of The Sniper?

Actually, yes. In cases like this when they are glad to catch just about anyone who matches, it could be a mistake. For example, which of the two was the sniper? The older or the younger guy? Or both? Who killed how many people? Maybe the young man wasn't connected with this at all, or the older guy, and he's also about to be executed. Maybe the real sniper put his sniperscope in their car while they were asleep. People shouldn't be killed because living in a prison is more painful (maybe?), it's a real torture, and because there is always a chance they're not guilty since there aren't any unquestionable proofs of their involvement, AFAIK.

Hah! Almost as many bleeding hearts have changed their tune as not! So, this is what it takes? Women being shot in the back. Kids being shot in the chest while attending school. Innocent, anonymous people being shot at random pushes the right button, eh?
  • Deu 20:13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
Deu 20:14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, [even] all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee

It'll happen. Someone invariably adds a "I hope Convicted Bad Person X enjoys his daily upper colonics compliments of Bubba during his jail term." comment to threads like this. It's this barely-repressed homoerotic undercurrent of ATOT that really keeps me coming back on a daily basis. :p

LOL!

Oh, give me a break! These guys get more pissed off when you diss their processor of choice, than I do about this!

Dude, seriously calm down. You're getting so excited about killing a kid and a man that it's getting scary. If they're convicted they get the punishment they deserve. If it's death then I'm fine with it, if it's life in prison i'm fine with it too. The kid, however, I don't think should die. At 17 you really don't know much yet.

But damn man, are you some sadist or something that just likes seeing people die? It's sad to see anybody die.

At 17 you don't know much? At 17 I'd had my college degree for two years, & had been working full time for one year. If I had murdered someone, would I have deserved the death penalty?

HELL YES!

Many people start college at 17 (depending on where their birthday falls); to say that a 17 year old doesn't know better is nothing short of asinine.

Killing is only evil if it is carried out on innocent victims, as these two did it. But execution carried out by the State, after a fair trial, as punishment for killing someone yourself, is called justice. You need a structured form of government that sets the rules, and makes it clear that if you kill someone, you will be killed as punishment. That is what we have, and this man signed his own death sentence. The government does not make the decision to execute him, he made that decision when he killed those 10 people. He knew the consequenses.

Your poll is so slanted that I won't even vote in it. No I don't want them sentenced to death. Giving out death to justify death is a little off key in my book. But saying, "oh they're just misguided, let them live" is a bunch of crap and you know it. I hope they rot in jail for the rest of thier lives, nothing more, nothing less. Oh, by the way, they are innocent as of right now.

No, it's called callous revenge.

The State has no right killing people if they are already in custody and removed from society. The killing spree is over. The sniper will rot in a cell for the rest of his life; executing him is a backwards, emotional-driven action that says "good things can come from death". Pisspoor logic.

Considering how determined the State is to protect us from ourselves from harm, it's rather illogical that it should kill off offenders for sport and media publicity.

I'm sure you knew a lot at 17-when i started college i was barely 17, but not a lot about the real world and society. College can't teach you how everything works (by far it can't). If you were 17 and graduated from college, i'd assume that you went in around 13-14. Do you think kids 13-14 deserve to die if they kill somebody? No! And 4 years from turning a teenager is nowhere near the maturity of a 30-year-old no matter how hard you argue.

Ornery, if the decision was solely yours and you had a gun held against the sniper's head, could you pull the trigger yourself?

I know our Justice Sytem isn't perfect, but you do understand that the prosecution will build a case against these people, don't you? You're making it sound like someone has already taken them out in a dark alley and put bullets between both their eyes after finding them and their snipermobile.

A: Wrong thread for a rebuttal

B: Try not to get your/you're confused when attempting an intellect-questioning flame. Kinda undermines your position if you catch my drift.
