Our "parents' parents"? My great-great-great grandfather fought and died for the Union, pal -- fighting to free the slaves. His father before him was an indentured servant (read: white slave) brought here forcibly from Ireland.

And I see a lot of black people do well. In fact, there is a very large and affluent black middle class in America. The difference that I have seen between black people who succeed and those who don't (and I see this same difference in white people and other races as well), is that those who are succeeding aren't crying and complaining about how much they think the world owes them. They're out getting it.

Let me give you a concrete example so you can understand: I knew this guy back in highschool who was Cuban-American, but you would swear he was a white kid from Oregon if you didn't know his name. He went to visit his uncle in South Carolina. He was talking to some local guys who were really friendly, hanging around and what not. One of them asked where he's from. He said he was born in Cuba but grew up in South Florida. They were shocked that he wasn't white, asked if he was a "ref" and how long ago did he come over on the "boat"-- their attitude towards him changed immediately. It was as if he was no longer good enough to be around them. When he came back down from S. Carolina, he told my friends and I about it, and we all got a good laugh out of it, especially since in South Florida, you don't get that kind of racism if you're Cuban. You see, he could have hidden a certain characteristic. Replace his situation with a dark skinned person, and you get a different outcome since you CAN NOT hide your skin color.

Therefore, in order to suck out the benefits Affirmative Racism, one must apply to the programs practicing it. Applying to a program involves identifying yourself and does not allow one to hide heritage which can be discerned on the basis of a name (your claim, not mine), therefore a name can be just as important as the special boxes provided for the special people of our society.

I live in the suburbs, in a faily wealthy neightborhood. Out of 10 families who live on my block, 3 are black, and 1 is hispanic. One of my best friends is black, and I have discussed AA with him, and I still dont' undetstand you're point of view.

If I give an example of how someone can determine a characteristic, that doesn't mean it's the only way. The reason you've taken that sentence and run with it for so long is because you want to avoid my "simple" yet poignant point. You can choose to ignore as much as you want, but the more you type the more your own character is revealed. I recognized this problem years ago. 40-50 years ago, some proud and noble black people fought for civil rights and equality and won. I recognized this problem years ago. 40-50 years ago, some proud and noble black people fought for civil rights and equality and won. The next generation came around and found out what equality really means in America. You get nothing except opportunity. Now get to fscking work, quit crying, make use of that opportunity, and quit demanding handouts, ok? It's getting old.
