That's where I was thinking of putting the M Cubed BigNG and T Balancer Extension Set. I may be able to fit the SSD there as well.

Thanks for the suggestion

Update on orders. Ballicom.com cancelled my order for the drive bay adapters and 60GB OCZ Vertex SSD since the SSD was out of stock, which was contrary to what their website stated when I placed the order.

So sod them. I've placed the orders for the following with Misco.co.uk (who I have used before) and memoryc.com (who I have also used before).

www.misco.co.uk
1. Metal 3.5 to 5.25 drive adapter bracket: http://www.misco.co.uk/applica...2459&CAWELAID=84127387
2. Adapter kit for mounting 2.5 hard drives in 3.5 drive bays: http://www.misco.co.uk/applica...2459&CAWELAID=84127334
Cost inc. VAT and shipping: £13.71

www.memoryc.com
60GB OCZ Vertex Series SATA II SSD: http://www.memoryc.com/product...rite_speed_/index.html
Cost inc. VAT and shipping: £179.42

I actually made almost a £10.00 saving over the Ballicom order, so every cloud has a silver lining.

I also received the items from C and C Central and ChilledPC today.

btw ChilledPC are the best company I've ever dealt with when it comes to internet orders (I've placed four separate orders with them to date). I highly recommend them.

I've spoken to Ballicom and Comcheck Systems Ltd. regarding the I7 950. They both said that they are expecting deliveries of the chip this Friday 22/5/09. Comcheck actually mentioned that their distributor has placed an order for 460No. I7 950s :Q

Better late than never, I suppose. My parent's must be sick of seeing my case (or large and heavy paper weight) in the corner of their Living Room. I couldn't be bothered to move everything back to my house, so I left it at my parent's house to collect dust.

Any way, a kind and selfless Mod would have leant me his I7 965 rig as a temporary measure; having a 965 and 975 rig is just being greedy :D

I've been using my mum's PC (or my ex-PC) since the New Year. It is soooooooo slowwwww, but better than nothing.

If I can order the 950 this Friday (it's coincidental that two completely different companies gave the same date), then I should have all the parts next week.

I've run out of blue tack, glue and double sided sticky tape (Blue Peter eat your heart out), so I'll have to stick with the drive bay adapters. :D

Do you guys know if this triple channel RAM cooler (or any RAM cooler) is any good:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/nova...cpage.html?CSR-FANTRI#
(Novatech is five minutes drive from my parent's house)

btw: I've found a triple rad (the seller doesn't know what make it is) on eBay for £10.00 including shipping and two barbs. I'm tempted to buy it as a spare. Do you guys know what make the rad is from this picture:

or velcro it to the side of the case wall.

I was thinking of velcroing the SSD along with the M Cubed T Balancer and Extension set to to the side of the 5.25" drive bay cage.

Another update:

The drive bay adapters from Misco have turned up today.

MemoryC and eBuyer have confirmed that the deliveries will arrive this Friday.

It looks as if I'm cooking with charcoal, expecially if the shops get the 950 in stock this Friday; I'll then have all the parts by early next week. I'll pay a bit extra to have the CPU over-nighted.

Edit: Gas changed to charcoal as per Aigo's suggestion :D

Update again.

MB, RAM and 1.5TB HDD turned up today. I'm just waiting for the SSD.

Unfortunately, the shops I contacted 3 days ago are now saying that they don't know what the ETA is for the I7 950. I'm getting so pissed off with waiting.

I also sent an e-mail to Intel's UK sales department to try and find out what the hell is going on.

Stoked to see this rig when it's done.

That triple rad on ebay looked like a Thermochill PA 120.3, since if it was an XSPC or Feser, it would say it on the side (PA's are unmarked). That would've been a steal (could of also been some cheap radiator as well).

It went for £37 inc. P & P so others must have thought it was the Thermochill, since they retail new for £60.

EBay now have the 950 listed. I sent the following to an eBay shop:

Hello,

I'm interested in the I7 950 and have a couple of questions:
1. Do you actually have the processors or are you waiting for a shipment once its released supposedly on 31/5/09?
2. Are the CPUs Engineering Samples or Retail versions?
3. If it is a Retail version is the box sealed?
4. Are you a shop where you would be able to provide a VAT invoice? I believe (and I may be wrong) that the 3-year Intel warranty only applies to shops.
5. Would you be able to over-night courier the CPU and how much would this cost me?

Thanks for your time.

###

And I've had the following reply:

Hi ###,

1. The CPU's are held at the Intel distributor until the 31-05-09. On the 31st orders may be placed for this item. They have 39 in stock and 300 on order. The 39 will be allocated on a first come basis.
2. The CPU's are Retail Stock
3. The boxes are retail sealed and the items are brand new
4. We are a online seller and provide a vat invoice with all orders, Intel provide a 3 year warranty on all retail CPU's, Your invoice will be needed to confirm the purchase date.
5. Overnight shipping is included in the price.

Regards,

###

Its tempting, although I'm still a bit concerned about the warranty. Does the Intel warranty cover eBay shops? If it does, then I'll buy the ah heck.

Edit: btw he only has two 950's listed.

do you really need a 950?

i mean honestly daw? ditch the 950 and go 920 or pay a bit more and grab a 975.

The 950 is a limbo chip.

The problem is that the the cost of a 920 + 950 (+ a bit more) = a 975. I would love to buy the 975, but I simply can't justify spending £800+ (or $1,200) on a chip. Even the 965 is still roughly £750.

The 950 is about double the price of the 920 in the UK.

I also don't want to be stuck with a 920, since that it was some many I7 owner's have. I know that everyone buys the 920 because it's relatively cheap for what you get - may be I just want to be a bit unique :).

Edit: the 950 also offers a worthwhile bump over the 920 in terms of the CPU multiplier.

Edit 2: Do I really need the 950? Nope, but it'll be fun.

The Intel warranty is voided by OCing anyway.

I realise that. The reason for my query was that eBay shops (the one I mentioned included) only give you 7 days to report DOA or a fault with the chip. Again, I realise that if a chip is faulty then it will more than likely just not work to begin with, but I don't want to take the chance (and a $650 chance) that this is wrong.

The point is that I want a longer duration than 7 days to make sure that the CPU actually works. Bear in mind that the rest of my PC is at my parent's house (I'm using my mum's pc / my ex-pc at the moment), so I will have to travel 100 miles to their house and re-build it. This means that I will have to take day off work.

It will also take a few weeks to test that everything is working correctly since I will be using a new MB, RAM, internal 1.5TB HDD, 60GB SSD, and M Cubed BigNG controller and extension set, so there are quite a few factors that could affect a stable / reliable stock speed rig. The only things that I'm re-using are the case, optical drives, PSU, HD 4870 X2 and water cooling loop.

LOL.

Edit: To be honest Gulftown doesn't matter to me, since I will be keeping the X58 MB / CPU / RAM rig for 2-3 years. Therefore, I will jump Gulftown and upgrade to whatever replaces it. I can't remember what this will be since I haven't looked at Intel's roadmap in a while - I imagine it would be an octo-core processor.

I will probably tinker more with the water cooling, than the hardware.
