Thank you everyone for all your help. And more importantly, thank you MegaWorks. This thread is a wealth of information for those who are about to delve in.

Good luck all.

For people that still have high temps that are using a Ati Silencer 4 I did a mod on my cooler that dropped it 15C more. Just cut a hole out above the fins on your silencer 4. Cut the hole the size of a 60mm fan(a small cpu fan). Get a cpu cooler (around $15 or lower, with a 60mm fan mounted on top). Unscrew the fan from the fins and place the fan in the hole you cut in your Silencer 4. Take some automotive silicon and seal the edges of the fan to your Silence. Buy a power converter that converts the plugs power supply connector to a cpu connector. (You should be able to find one very very cheap). I lowerd my temp to 32c idle to 50 max running at 555/555 since July. This sounds complicated but its really simple.

*shrugs* Quite a mod there, but fortunately for me, I don't need it. My card is idling at 30 degrees and peaks at 50 degrees C with ATI Silencer 4 alone, but then again... Everything in my case is cool (CPU AMD64 3500+: 26 - 28 degrees C idle; 42 degrees C max at load. I've even seen it go to 23 - 24 degrees C at idle xD). You just gotta love Cooler Master Stacker. <3

Despite there are now 5 fans (7 if you count in the HDD coolers; this includes the Cooler Master Crossflow Fan), the noise isn't overwhelming at all (all you hear is just some low humming, which I'm already used to), usually because I listen to music or watch movies most of the time. Though I might invest some money into a more silent equipment, but for now, I'm happy with my new PC. :)

megaworks you are a f***ing legend!!! i just followed your directions on flashing the x800 to an xt
(read directions from gf's computer while i flashed the x800 in mine)
my mates said it wouldnt work but it did! - HA! cant wait to rub it in thier faces!!!

fyi i have a powercolour x800 pro with vivo - forgot to bench the stock x800 pro b4 the flash and havent had time to test it today since i had work :(. will update this arvo with benchmark scores after i finish drooling and shaking (at work all day lol)
i stayed with the gigabyte bios and windows picks it up as an X800XT PE with 16 active pipelines and 520clock/560mem
ive been deciding for a few days wether or not to take the plunge and try it (cant afford to replace it)

so i sat there this morning and set up the floppy disks and put the first one (backup) thru no probs, then the second one with the gigabyte bios, I typed the command into the prompt asnd sat there looking at it for five minutes thinking "i can still abort this mission" then i hit enter, closed my eyes and prayed to god almighty not to kill my card. I opened my eyes and saw it was succesful so i reboot and almost got a hard on when i saw windows pick up an X800XT PE in MY system lol
straight into atitool and there it was 16 active pipelines and 520clock/560mem average 38 degrees celc (removed heatsink the other day and replaced crappy thermal paste with arctic silver)
also while i had the heatsink i noticed that there was colour/picture under the x800pro sticker, so i peeled the sticker off and there was an x800xt picture on the heatsink (can post pics if yas want?)

Thanks again mate :) couldnt have done it without your guide!

ive heard that both cards work but they have to be the vivo ones
with samsung 1.6ns memory.
I flashed my powercolour this morning and it worked fine im now the proud owner of an X800XT PE for $750australian which i bought about 3 months ago.
i dont know about the sapphires but my powercolour even had the x800xt picture/label thing underneath the x800pro sticker on the heatsink

hope this helps :)

how do you know if it has samsung 1.6ns memory?
Also is it safe to do this, without worrying about overheating?

Woo hoo! I finally turned my X800 Pro to X800 XT PE! Eventhough I paid 445 bux, it's well worth it! Thanks OP!

One OT note: I WOULDN'T order anything from futurepowerpc.com because they sent me used/all banged up card, I had to return it at my cost! Be warned!

I have a (built by) Ati Radeon X800 Pro with no video in, but it does have the yellow CD IN and the 1.6ns ram. Also the rage theater chip is present. If it has 1.6ns ram and the yelllow CD IN does that mean the pipelines are just disabled or do i have to look to see if they are laser cut. All help is greatly appreciated.

So don't do it if you feel that you can damage you hardware by doing this mod.
