Heh, do you see other country calling someone driving a car into a store killing let's say 5 people their 911?

I mean won't you get pissed off and think it dishonors those who died on 911 with such comparison?

3000 people died on 911, and comparing that to something killed 5 people give you 3000:5 or 600:1 ratio.

270,000 people died in the Tsunami, and let's say 200 people died in this hurrican, that's 1350:1 ratio, twice as bad as the comparision I just give you.

So imaging what people in Indonesia, India, Thailand and Sri Lanka think when they hear American compare something killed 200 people to their tragedy. And can you blame them and everyone else in the world thinking American are either not too bright or arrogant to the bone?

The storm inflicted catastrophic damage along the Gulf coast as it slammed into Louisiana, and then swept across Mississippi, Alabama and western Florida.

Although an unofficial death toll hovered around 55 on Tuesday morning, officials in Mississippi were reporting 50 dead in that state alone.

Jim Pollard, a spokesperson in Harrison County, said that 30 of them died at a Biloxi, Miss. apartment complex where they were drowned or crushed by debris.

"This is our tsunami," said Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway.

...

Total Death Count from Hurricane Katrina: maybe 100

Total Death Count from Tsunami: 226,000

Yes, the hurricane is horrible, but everyone had DAYS of notice to get the hell out of there.

What part of "this is our tsunami" do you not understand? He didn't say it was as bad the tsunami, he just said it was their version of it. Maybe if you had your house destroyed and your city flooded, you might understand.

The damage in the tsunami was more than just lives - it was also the property and infrastructure. In that manner, Katrina surpasses the tsunami.

Meh whatever I'm feeling bad talking about all this as its still unfolding.

Anyways as much sh!t as I talk about southerners I'll always be there to help them as an American. Thats all that matters to me.

:music: If the weather is better
We should get together
Spend a little time and we can do whatever
And if we get together we'll be twice as clever
So, staple it together and call it bad weather, mm hmmm :music:

Heh, I thought we put human life above everything else.....well I guess that's not the case. Well, even if you think human life doesn't count in the comparision, the devastation of the Tsunami spread accrossed 4+ countries, and even shores as far as Africa was affected. What make you think the property and infrastructure damange wasn't as much as Katrina.

Look, I am not here to say Katrina isn't a tragedy or horrible. I feel bad for the people who lost their house and property. But the Tsunami literally put hell on earth in those areas. People had to live among dead body for weeks. To make hurrican that happens more then a few time a year to an event that killed 270,000 people and probably 5x who lost their house/home and was hurt or diseased from the disaster, is just ridiculous.

A city below sea level? A system of levies and pumps to keep the city dry? For a city that is on the gulf coast?

First New Orleans wasn't built below sea level. Alterations to the mississippi delta have caused the city to sink in relative elevation. This required the construction of leavies and canals to maintain the land as the natural ground sunk. Unless the mississippi delta is allowed to restablish (with the corresponding loss of shipping lanes) new orleans and the rest of the delta will continue to submerge into the gulf.

Second, New orleans isn't the only place below sea level, a good percentage of the country of denmark is below sea level and has been for over 500 years.

Either you are young or ignorant, I suggest studying the situation more thoroughly before commenting.

Apparently all those reports on Americans being poor at geography weren't so far off. I can't believe all the similar posts on various boards I've seen such as the one you just debunked, rahvin.

There is a fair share of ignorant fools posting but there are also a fair number of teenagers, in particular know-it-all 19 year olds like zendari posting. This results in a rather apparent display of ignorance while the intelligent just read and shake their heads.

Figure of speech. I'm sure you don't understand that. I think the man is a Democrat too! I shouldn't have to defend a democrat to a liberal.

Seriously, the effects on everything other than lives were probably similar. If there had been as little warning for the hurricane as there was for the tsunami, the loss of life might have been even higher than the tsunami. So in that regard it is somewhat the same. Pre-weather radar this would have been a disaster of epic proportions.

Two comments:

1. Liberals are pretty stupid.
2. Denmark doesn't have hurricanes. The levees were built to control the rivers and bayous. They do that very well. Hurricanes like this one are something else.

One more comment - for the stupid liberal: New Orleans was built a long time back to access transportation on the Mississippi. Lots of nature under the bridge since then.

Beer, jewelry, and blue jeans, though - looting.

Did ya see the guy with the LCD TV. Must be making a sandwich. They'll be looking for cheap labor to build the city back. I would consider looters volunteers!

Pretty disgusting, eh?

Didn't see them running out of the stores with it like on TV. How about the really bright liberal that was trying to break the apartment window with a large stone (or something). Three tries and the window won. Poor soul will probably starve without the sandwich material in the apartment!
