Ok, blame the French, I was talking in general, Hurricane/Tornado risk areas.

Those hit in Biloxi and the surrounding areas expected the brunt of the storm to hit New Orleans, and had no expectation of needing to evacuate. New Orleans received the order to evacuate, yet did not face the worst of the storm...levee failures since the storm ended has made the situation worse.

Ya, they had no idea a hurricane was coming.

I doubt you would have that luxury...an earthquake would most likely hit without warning

It was a hypothetical, go look it up Einstein.

, leaving you in the same predicament as those suffering the wrath of Katrina...perhaps the rest of the country should extend the same indifference towards Californians, who choose to build expensive cities and communities along earthquake fault lines and known landslide areas to "enjoy the views."

I don't think California's or anyone else has much sympathy for earthquake victims, but again if we had 2-3 day warnings I have even less sympathy. I live in one of the worst places for earthquakes, I won't be asking the international community for aid if my house falls down. Of course I'm not dumb enough to compare property destruction to 270,000 deaths.

The point being is that under the forces of nature, any human civilization is prone to face disaster...some areas are obviously more at risk then others, but the forces of nature can take it all away at any time.

Ya, they had no idea a hurricane was coming.
Huge distinction between receiving orders to evacuate due to the anticipation of catastrophic disaster vs. weathering storms as they have in the past...this is not the first hurricane to hit this region, yet the devastation is more widespread then anyone anticipated...also, not everyone had the luxury or the means to escape the path of the hurricane, regardless of any warnings they may have received.

It was a hypothetical, go look it up Einstein.
How childish.

But don't let that blind you to the need and damage.

International aid money?

The US is the richest country in the world. Your comment is akin to a millionaire asking a welfare recipient for a handout to fix a leaky roof; incredibly stupid.

International money will come in, but from private donations. Just like private donations poured in worldwide for the tsunami disaster.

And your comment is akin to a liberal with a permanent stick up his butt so whats the point.

clap clap clap

I know that's more than most of us expected in your reply.

Your next lesson will focus on content since you seem to have sentence structure nailed.

As far as the scope of the destruction goes, I can understand why the people directly involved can feel that, for them, this is equivalent. I can understand why the mayor of Biloxi would have made a statement like that.

Also, for the families who lost family members, pets, etc. - yes, for them, it is equivalent.

From an outside perspective, as someone who was not directly affected by either event, I would still assert that the direct damage and loss of life caused by the tsunami is still much greater than by Katrina.

NOTE: I'm not talking about indirect affects, only direct affects. I would guess that the indirect affects of this disaster will affect Americans much more than the tsunami did (rising oil prices, future shortages of construction materials, etc). However, the indirect affects seem much more subjective, as they affect people on a more individual basis.

This thread is a human cesspool of stupidity. Glad I could stop by with my comments to help it out.
