spotdancer, you may have JUST solved my problem!

I usually fall asleep on my side, but when I wake up I'm on my stomach. I really want a thick pad, but I don't know how much time I spend on my stomach (and Mark reccommends for stomach sleepers no more than 2", otherwise your stomach sinks in too far, weirdly curving your back i think). I was debating about what I was going to do (wait and see if I can figure out my sleeping habits better) but now I can just go ahead and buy a 2" now (who wants to wait?!). Sweet idea, i'm going to call Mark tomorrow and I'll ask him if there'd be any difference in using two just to make sure.

The beautiful thing about buying one 2" mattress pad is that if you think you would be better off with the 4" pad, you can still order the second 2" pad, and pay less money anyway - remember, shipping is free!!

MINERAT - I would be really curious what Mark's Bedding has to say about two of the 2" pads instead of one 4" pad. They have to know that its cheaper to buy two of the 2" pads, but I am wondering if you would get the same effect? After you find out, let us know!!!.........thanks!!!

I am seriously considering buying a memory foam mattress, not just a topper although I am looking at both options. In my travels I came across MemoryFoamSource.com. They sell toppers and also mattresses. Their foam is 5.4lb density and they sell toppers in 2" and 3" sizes. The prices are excellent, and the density is great - but who knows about the quality? There is a 12 year warranty, and at least for now there is free shipping. Here is their price list:

2" Topper 3" Topper
Twin $107.22 $163.23

Twin XL $107.22 $163.23

Full $149.83 $203.81

Full XL $149.83 $203.81

Queen $159.44 $219.77

King $189.34 $249.12

Cal-King $189.34 $249.12

Shipping: $49.00 Free Shipping Today - $49 Savings
Note: MemoryFoamSource.com will apply the proper discount at checkout.

Couldn't help but post in this thread, I just ordered a 1.5 inch covered Sleep Innovations Ultimate Mattress Topper King for ~145 from Linen & Things using a 20% off coupon, and they currently have free shipping on orders >$150 they must have taken the pre coupon price because they shipped for free:D (Just do a google search for 20% off coupon).

I went with it because it's covered with a washable cover & has a 5 year warranty & we already have a thin pillow top mattress, but I'm uncomfortable because the mattress is so firm & the built in pillow top is so thin. I hope the mattress topper isn't too thin.

I also as a result of this thread remembered that I loved a latex pillow I had as a child & bought one, I know that latex isn't to everyone's liking, but my youngest daughter had to have one after she tried mine:D, & I have a serious flashback to falling asleep as a child when I put my head on mine:D

10 more days till this thread is 1 year old:D

I just talked with Mark. I bought the 2" 5.0 lb Sensus topper. He said the reason the 4" is $30 more than 2x2" is because a pillow is included with the 4". Other than that it makes no difference if you have 2x2" or 1x4". I bought the 2 and will go from there, perhaps buying another.

Yo! minerat!!

Please let me (and a few others methinks) know how you feel about this purchase - the quality, are you going to buy a 2d topper, and/or anything else you might like to tell us about the Sensus material. I will hold off on buying anything until I hear back from you.

Thanks my friend!

Sure thing. Mark said I should have it middle of next week (Wed?). I'll write up something about my first impressions and do a follow up a little while later :)

Report on the PillowPedic pillow.

This is my first memory foam pillow and I jumped at it because it came in larger sizes (20" = $44, 24" = $45, 28" = $46) and I couldn't see myself sleeping a little 20" pillow.

The foam seems very dense and recovers quickly after indentation. There was no smell and the cover seems passable (although with Atrac's report on the shrinking, it may be fairly useless--I don't see myself dry cleaning a pillow cover). The size is wonderful as I tend to roll around a bit. What I'm not so sold on is the shape of the pillow and this may be an issue with memory foam pillows in general. I sleep on both my back and side and the shape is perfect for back sleeping. But when I'm on my side, I wake up with a slight crick in my neck because I think the 4.5" neck curve elevates my head too much from the 2" other side.

I am considering ordering one.

At 5.3lbs density these pillows will be very firm. I recently purchased a couple of ComfortZone pillows from SmartBargains that I believe are 4lbs density, and I really like them. Having said that, a lot of people found these ComfortZone pillows to be too "hard" so I can only imagine that these same people would probably think that 5.3lbs density pillows would probably feel like sleeping on rocks. I think the Tempur-Pedic pillows are about the same density as these 5.3lbs, so if you can find a place that sells them you can go and give them a "feel" test to see if you like them.

On a previous post I also made mention of this website regarding their mattresses and mattress toppers, and also wondered if anyone had any experience with this company? If so, please post and let us know what you think. Thanks!

I really like the TempurPedic. Plus I sleep on my side so I need support.
I think I will give this a try.

I came across another supplier that has 5.3lb density pillows for $29 and $7 shipping on eBay. Do a search for "TempurPedic" and you should be able to find it quite easily - I cant remember the suppliers name. I am very tempted to buy one of these myself to see if I like the 5.3lb density pillow. I think the size of the pillow was 25x14x4 and at $36 shipped it is a lot less expensive than the other pillows with the same density.

Just a heads-up if you wanna save a little cash!!

Well, since my last post I decided to go ahead and buy a couple of these pillows that I found on eBay. The eBay name of the vendor is "foambymail" and the actual company name is Foam Factory, Inc.

My memory is failing me because it turns out that these are Queen Size 5.3lb density Sensus Memory Foam pillows, and the size of them is actually 26x14x4.5 inches. Also, if you buy two pillows shipping is free so you get two of these pillows for $59.98 and no shipping charge. Compare these prices to the pillows at MemoryFoamSource, and you will find that a standard pillow from them is $49.98, a queen is 59.98, and a king is 79.98 - and that is for ONE pillow. Free shipping, but for the same price of one queen pillow at MemoryFoamSource you can get two of the Sensus pillows with the same 5.3lb density!! I guess its not hard to figure out where to buy similiar pillows, eh?

I just wish to say to Atrac, that you, sir, have been cloned, and it is me that is the clone. I just cant stop buying these damn pillows!!!:Q

Thanks for the "flipping" idea, Spotdancer. Worked like a charm. Simple, but it probably would've been another week before I tried it otherwise ;)

Yeah, sometimes the simplest, most obvious thing to do is not quite so obvious. This reminded me of when I used to smoke pot (many years ago when you could get sent to jail for LIFE - no kidding - if you were caught with it) and I would struggle with the last few pieces inside the corner of the plastic baggy - then I saw someone, who when they got down to the end of the bag, simply tore the corner off the bag. I was stunned, and wondered why I hadnt figured that out myself!! I remember feeling pretty dumb at the time!!! :Q:D

SpotDancer (aka MyClone):

I'm very tempted to try the Sensus Pillow. I've been reading about it and from what I can see, it sounds like it might be even better than Tempur-Pedic!

The only thing holding me back is a lack of a cover. I really *really* love having the soft velor/terry cloth cover for these type of pillows, and for some reason FoamByMail isn't offering a cover. If they included a cover, I'd already have placed an order by now. ;) Just buying a standard pillowcase is a big turn off for me. :(

Also, I ordered my Carpenter Mattress Pad from FoamByMail (and it's great). The only thing is they certainly aren't lying about their shipping/processing time....it took me almost 3 weeks to get my mattress pad (including the 7 days it took UPS Ground to get from MI to SoCal). So patience with them is a virture. But they are a good company to deal with. ;)

Yo! Atrac! Its your clone here! I have a coupla observations/questions:

1. I am going to write to Foam By Mail and ask if it comes with a cover. It did not mention that it does, and I went ahead and bought the pillows anyway. If it doesnt come with a cover I will ask if they have them available, and at what cost?

2. What mattress pad did you buy? I am definitely going to buy a good mattress pad, or mattress. Let me and others know when you have a minute!

3. With all the pillows you own, cant you just take a cover off one, and put it on this one? :Q

Atrac......CRIPES!!! I told ya way back when you started, that this thing had a life of it's own. I hadn't even been to Anandtech for months, I run across this thread, and figure it was another one that had been started....but, no...same one. Wowsers!!

and...SpotDancer is your clone. :)

Anyway, some of my observations:

1. A gf "forced" me to get the true 5.3# Tempurpedic pillow from Brookstone for ~$100 way back when. I loved it, but it lost it's "firmness" after about a year. I took it back to Brookstone, they gave me a new one, no questions asked, and mentioned that heat is not good for the foam. Just happened that I had been leaving it in the car most days.

2. Back when this thread started, I got a 3" 4# mattress pad. My Mom liked it and "borrowed" it. I "borrowed" it back for a few months, and, really miss it since she took it back. But, I have to say, when I get another, it will probably be a 4" 5.3# (if that's what Tempurpedic uses). At least 4" for sure. At first, the 3" topper seemed to be somewhat too deep, but, as I got used to it, I wished I had popped for a 4". I'm a side sleeper, btw. I do know that there is a firmness difference in the 5.3# Tempurpedic pillow and the 4# mattress pad. Enough of a difference that I'll get the heavier this time, and just buck it up for the extra $$$'s.

FWIW.....

Greetings Clone. :) My responses (cloned...errr...numbered to match your questions):

1) I'm 99.9% sure that they don't come with covers. The picture looks like it's just the pink foam pillow. I know when I ordered my mattress pad from them, it came with 2 Queen Sized Pillows and they did not have covers.

2) I ordered the 4 lb 3" Carpenter Foam Mattress Pad from Foambymail. It also did not include a cover. I found another site (vitalityweb.com) that sells mattress pad covers so I got it from them for $50. It fits it perfectly and now looks like a Tempur-Pedic clone mattress pad. :)

3) All of the pillows I have are standard size (except for the PillowPedic, which is King Size) so my covers wouldn't fit the queen sized ones from foambymail. :( Besides, even though I may not use them, I still want them covered. :)

We really need to find a good source for larger size covers for these pillows if they are going to come bare. :)

Since there's all these mattress pads and toppers out these days, is there a point to buying an expensive mattress? Why not just get a cheapy $200 set thats extra firm and feels hard then topping it with a decent topper?

Atrac

How does the FoamByMail topper compares to the Isotonic one?

I'm currently trying out the Isontonic 4lb 2" topper and was wondering if there's something better that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. lol

Thanks
