Omalon

I had no idea when I started if these two kinds of foam would be comfortable together, but now I have two beds like this.

Yo! Sesopedalian!!

Where did you buy this Omalon stuff?

I just used the Omalan link as an example of foam being used as a foundation. I think it is similar to the 5" firm I bought at the JCpenny link I posted earlier. That is what I am using. To clairify, I am using the 5" foam "topper" as a foundation, not as a topper. My topper is the 2" Isotonic memory foam.

To go on top of said 5" block of foam, would you suggest the regular carpenter topper that is about 3.7 lb (I believe it now has some sort of grid type design) or would you get the more expensive sensus foam that's 5.4 lb?

As we all know Carpenter makes some nice memory foam, but after having tried numerous types of memory foam (including some from Carpenter) I would highly recommend the Sensus from "foam by mail" on eBay. Their prices for the Sensus foam is a little bit better than Mark's, and I can assure you their customer service is excellent The Sensus foam is very high quality, soft but firm, offering great support and comfort. As Atrac noted, it may even be better than TempurPedic.

I hope this helps!

Awesome. So the sensus it is. What about a cover? Is there anywhere to buy a decent quality cover that will fit both the 5" foam base and the 3" topper?

If you order from foambymail, I believe they will probably have covers but at additional cost. I am using a "jersey" sheet set on my foam mattress toppers, and I like the feel of them. Any sheets that you like will probably be good - I am thinking about "sateen" sheets for my next set.

This is just a heads-up for those of you who are thinking about buying a foam mattress, or foam toppers along with a foam base to make your own mattress.

I just ordered a couple of Sensus memory pads from "foambymail" at eBay, and asked them if they had any foam base material that I could use with the topper. They told me that very soon - like in the next week - they will be offering a foam mattress setup with a 5" foam base, and a 3" memory foam top. I have asked them to let me know the price, including shipping and as soon as they let me know I will post it.

Foamby mail has sent the prices for the different types of mattresses. From what I have seen for this type of mattress setup, these are very competitively priced, but you be the judge! They should be listed on eGay by the end of the week.

The mattresses feature 3" Thick of memory foam (one of 3 types) on top of a 2.8 high density foam base. The mattress prices below include cover. The cover offered is a gray & white striped ticking with zipper (50% cotton / 50% Polyester). The price for the foam mattress are...

3" of 3.5 Density memory Foam on 5" of 2.8 Density Base. Cover included, 3.5 density memory foam pillows included. Plus $23 for S&H to continental US.
TWIN 8x39x75: $169 (includes 1 pillow)
FULL 8x54x75: $239 (includes 2 pillows)
QUEEN 8x60x80: $269 (includes 2 pillows)
KING 8x76x80: $339 (includes 2 pillows)
CAL KING 8x72x84: $339 (includes 2 pillows)

3" of 4.2 Density memory Foam on 5" of 2.8 Density Base. Cover included. Plus S&H to continental US.
TWIN 8x39x75: $199 (S&H $25)
FULL 8x54x75: $265 (S&H $25)
QUEEN 8x60x80: $312 (S&H $35)
KING 8x76x80: $390 (S&H $35)
CAL KING 8x72x84: $390 (S&H $35)

3" of 5.3 Density SENSUS memory Foam on 5" of 2.8 Density Base. Cover included. Plus $50 S&H to continental US.
TWIN 8x39x75: $249

KING 8x76x80: $649
CAL KING 8x72x84: $649

Thanks for all the great info SpotDancer. I went ahead and ordered two Sensus pillows from Foambymail. Can't wait to try them out!

The mattress packages are awefully tempting at those prices! HMMMM!

thanks spotdancer for info on the sensus stuff. since the pillows don't come with covers, does anybody know a good place to get the terry cotton type of covers? foambymail says that their $5 covers are just regular cotton covers.

brookstone sells queen size tempurpedic covers, but i dunno if they'd fit, and they're $25 :(

Yeah, I'm interested on where to find a decent pillow covers to protect mine as well. I placed an order for 2 queen size sensus and the queen size sensus topper.

I was planning on visiting a few local stores this weekend to find the covers.

This is a pretty dang good deal. I have a king size memory foam bed with a couple of these pillows and I sleep like a baby. If anyone has troubles sleeping at night, get some of these pillows and save up for the whole bed. It is awesome.

Ok, I really need some advice on this. After reading about 10 pages of this, I am looking on getting a mattress pad. I have a queen size bed. I am debating on whether to get the 3.5 or 4.2 or 5.3 density and 3" thick. I checked ebay and most likely I will go with foambymail which have the best prices with the pillows. Can anyone let me know if its really make a big difference on the density. I don't want to spend the extra $$$ if its only a small difference.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, Sensus owners/buyers, when you post your reviews of the pillows, could you also let us know how you sleep? I'm a side sleeper and I'm thinking of waiting for the non-countoured, but if the countoured works for other side-sleepers then, hey, maybe I'll get one of them instead.

In regards to the pillows, has anyone used those contour cloud pillows? Are they any count or should I spend 6 times as much for the sensus pillows?

I received my 2 Sensus queen size pillows this week. (From FoamByMail on Ebay)
They are quite dense. But I still enjoy them. (These are my first memory foam pillows. I have used latex for the past couple of years.)
I really wish they came with covers... But they don't. However now I am curious if the "extra" covers they offer are contoured... ? Because otherwise purchasing a regular pillow cover would not be a problem. Anyway. I am side sleeper 100% and I have found the best way to use this pillow for me is to turn it upside down... (Contours facing down) and put a small travel pilllow underneath it to make it totally flat. Laying flat on my back with the pillow this way is not very comfortable (too high) But for sleeping on my side it is perfect.
That's all I can think of right now.

Shinta!

Take a look at Ph34rful's post and you will see that he turns his pillow onto the flat side. I am also a side sleeper, and sleep both ways - sometimes with the (smaller) contour facing up. Unlike Ph34ful, I dont find it necessary to put anything under the pillow if I use the flat side, but thats just me.

Ph34ful!

I dont know if the pillow cases are also contoured to "fit" the contoured pillow but I would doubt it because any pillowcase you buy would probably contour itself to the pillow anyway.
The cases that foambymail sell are cotton covers - probably pretty standard - so if I were you I would go out and find some pillow cases that I liked and buy them. As I have posted before I bought some "jersey" pillow cases, and really like them but I think my next cases will probably be some high thread count "sateen" pillow cases.

I have not used the contour cloud pillows, but I would be willing to bet that they suck. Probably like egg crate foam that would flatten out in a few weeks. Invest in some Sensus foam would be my advice.

Yeah, I saw Ph34rful's and previous posts that recommended flipping it, but I tried that with my Costco contoured pillow and it didn't really do it for me. Maybe the Sensus is different that way, maybe not. Just collecting as much data as possible. :)

They claim to have memory foam too, that's why I was curious. Here's their webpage if anyone's interested.

Although, looking at it, getting queen sized pillows will double the cost for two so I probably may as well spend the extra $20 to get two sensus.
