Well I picked up Tiger Woods at lunch and played for maybe 30 minutes. Initially I had a ton of issues swinging the club, but after some practicing I figured out how to do it. The main issue I had was the way I was holding onto the controller made the game hit the ball too soon.

Graphics are not that great. They are on the same level as Madden. There is a ton of stuff to keep you busy, however I could not find a save feature in-game, which makes me sad, as I don't always have time to complete 18 holes in a tournement.

I noticed that was one of the main things the 1UP review complained about.

I think we're just going to have to live with the fact that the Wii will never be able to handle near photo-realistic graphics like PS3 and Xbox 360. Honestly I think the system lends itself more to the cartoonish style graphics that Nintendo is famous for (and which people often dismiss as childish :(). For games with graphics that attempt to look real, it's just not going to look as good. Oh well.

I'm leaning toward picking this up if you're happy with it.

In fact if I order it from Amazon.com now I should have it by Friday... hmmm...

Don't rely on me yet! :p

I'm going to give it some time this evening to play around. I'm leaning towards liking it so far, though.

Just finished modding my Wii with the WabModCheap. Waiting for my Atmel Mega8L chip so I don't have to be connected to my computer.

Ive played them all and the Wii is boring as hell! Oh joy I get to fling my arm around to do simple motions. You mean I get to play tennis and not control the units!? AWESOME! People keep saying the control is such a innovative way to play a game and its just amazing! Its a damn location and motion sensor! Ive played zelda on both consoles and having to swing your hand around to swing annoys the heck out of me! The controller will not lend well to a lot of games and then its just a underpowered system with the same control scheme. TRUE there will be some fun games that come out that are really one of a kind and will be a lot of fun...but I dont think its the system that it should be.

I love Nintendo and I love mario and super smash brothers..but I am very disappointed in this system. I know graphics dont make the games..but COME ON look at far cry and COD3..its just sad.

XBOX360 is owning and taking names in the actual good and fun game department!

OMG, I love the wii! heh, seriously though, I enjoy the different control scheme. I dunno, maybe it's because I've only played the xbox/ps2/etc a handful of times. Only fighting games and driving sims ever really interested me for some reason.

But after buying a DS, I thought Nintendo might actually have something, and I liked it. The only real gripe I have is if i got HDTV, it will be a bit disappointing. Cause I won't deny the ps3/xbox360 are damn pretty. Altho, I don't see what is so terrible about COD3. Maybe my expectations weren't as high as some folks.

But regardless... if ya don't like the Wii, ya don't like it. I personally loved Zelda's controls (but I do wish the swinging translated to the game a bit better) and Wii bowling is tremendous fun. And yes, I'm waiting for a real tennis game too.

:p

I've been playing some Excite Truck recently and man, this game is great. I am having a blast with it! I didn't expect it to be so much fun, and the control is very good in this game.

The only bad thing is that I'm quickly realizing that no online play is going to hurt the Wii's replay factor for many MANY games. After I finish Excite Truck single player, there will not really be any reason to play it :(

Friends, super tree runs, and some beer. It makes for excite truck to be insanely hilarious :)

You should connect the modchip externally. I used a Firewire header cable and have it soldered directly to the DVD drive and it's coming out the vent on the bottom of the Wii. So I can connect any mod chip to the port instead of opening it each time if I want to make changes.

exactly...

eel you are assuming that the newer mod chips will use the exact same solder points?

awesome. too bad I don't want to risk breaking the wii and not being able to replace it right now...

altho, I guess it's not too useful unless someone releases a media player that streams from the network... or better yet, a way to load games from a USB HDD (assuming it's usb 2). hehe... that would be awesome... SSX blur sounds like it's going to explode.

We (wife and I) still love the Wii and looking forward to more games (mario party, cooking mama). We have no love for Xbox360 or PS3. I love my PC the most when I want to play mature games or online games, and the Wii is a great supplement for something different and fresh, and the only choice for party gaming (4 player tennis is incredibly fun). To each its own.

Taking the Wii apart is definitely a process. The thing about the deluxe chip is that is has an extra wire that must be soldered to the motherboard, where as the other 5 wires (and most chips only have these 5 wires) are soldered to the dvdrom.

And let me tell you. It's very tediuos to take the wii apart to the motherboard, and even at that point, the 1 wire that I Had to solder to the motherboard was a PITA to actually get soldered, but I eventually did it.

After about 2 hours of taking apart/soldering/putting back together my Wii it was time to test it out, and right away I booted up with a back-up of zelda that I made of my copy.

And sure enough, it loaded up just fine :)

Now I have to grab some of the homebrew stuff, and apparently there is a DVD player out there (or in the works atleast).

Finally! I click your link, but the description wasn't clear to me. Does it allow you to play Japanese Wii games? somehow the description sounds like it plays import GC games.

They have to. That's the only way to access the drive. There are 5 main points. The few mods that use extra wire or two is to allow for updating the mod chip.

And another reason I like to have the external mod, even though drive mods are more or less transparent to the console, if the mod chip is not even physically connected, can't beat that stealth.

Beat Ultimate Alliance whihc was more fun thatn I thought and have started Tiger Woods. Once you get the swing down its pretty easy to hit straight every time. The problem with starting out a new golfer is that he totally cant drive worth crap and you always have to hit looong shots to get GIR. Its pretty good though though the background visuals are pretty bad, the animations on the gofers are great though.

I bought it, and I like it. But what am I doing wrong if I keep prematurely swinging? I pull back, and then he hits ~50% before I can swing forward.

What I do is to swing backwards and hold it for a second until the character has fully backswung, and then swing forward. I usually get 92-105% and straight forward as well with a bit of practice.

I have found that not bringing it up past your shoulder really helps. I bring it back slowly to about mid-chest and then rip it forward. Once I got the hang of it, the 50% swing issue went away. I have also somewhat gotten the hang of hooking and slicing to the point where I can usually nullify wind.
