Wait wut, my FAN discount wont be there anymore if I just change my phone but stay within the same company if i buy from apple?

Correct. Get it from AT&T and your FAN discount will remain untouched. Otherwise you will have to go through the process to have it re-added and backdated during the two months it takes to "process"

None of the iPod Touches ever had a version in their names. I guess you have to look at the screen sizes. I was mildly interested with the new Touch, but the $299 price point is a turn-off.

Btw, did they skip announcing the prices for the iPhone 5? I think I missed it. The real prices I mean, not the ones that require selling your soul to the carriers.

They didnt mention un-subsidized pricing for iPhones.

I just Google'd the release date of the iPad 3 and it was March 2012.

Guess they'll leave any possible iPad Mini (if it ever happens) for March 2013 then.

Was hoping they'd try and make it happen before the holidays...

I believe they're still rumored to have another press event next month for the iPad mini. I guess they didnt want too many products sharing the stage.

I dont know that they would hold another event in such a short period of time, and even more unlikely for just a new version of an existing product. Feb/March is my guess.

Sadly for me, I think that is the case. But maybe they'll do it just to get it out before the holidays.

OMG! Thats ridiculous. Wonder why. Maybe I'll shoot em an email about this.

I think they'll do it before they holidays. The Kindle Fire HD is pretty alluring for the price/size/features...but a $299 iPad Mini would demolish that. Everyone would get one for Christmas  Knowing Apple it will be $349 though...the new iPod Touch starts at $299 😛

I don't. The size is just fine. Unlike some phone manufacturers, Apple seems to understand that I don't want a boat anchor in my pocket.

100x this. I've got a 4" Android phone ATM and am probably getting an iPhone 5 in large part because all the high end Android phones are mammoths. My friends chide me for not wanting a larger phone but whatever, I have a computer and an iPad if I want a screen, I just want a PHONE that has a few tricks up it's sleeve.

4" is just about the perfect size.

So I'm on a family plan with ATT. My direct line isn't up for upgrade, but others are, and in the past ATT has let me use the other line upgrades, and they will for this release. If I want to pre-order, how do I go about doing that? Via Apple site that is. Do I have to do anything different?

Wow, LTE is a mess.

If I buy an iPhone in Canada, I can only use it in Canada or on AT&T.

Verizon/Sprint, only on those.

The third model, only in Europe.

All incompatible with each other. So much for this 'dynamic antenna' which does shit-all and you still need three different models.

In Canada it's $699 (16 GB), $799 (32 GB), and $899 (64 GB). Ouch.

I wonder what it would cost to break my current contract and then get a new one.

It's a phone with only one NAND chip. Expecting it to get more than 40MB/sec is kind of silly, no?
Well, one thing is that USB 3 provides more power. Faster charging.

Reminds me of TDMA vs CDMA vs GSM vs whatever Nextel was using -- except now they are all called the same thing, just to confuse you even more!

Order it on the line that has the upgrade available. When it comes in, DO NOT activate via iTunes. Call AT&T and tell them to activate it on your direct line and not to touch the other ones.

One thing I am not sure about -- they mentioned the "shipping date" is Sept 21. Is that the date it will be available for purchase in stores? Does that mean that anyone who pre-ordered will receive it on the 21st, like in the past?

Awesome, and any clue if I can ship it to work vs billing address that day?

Does it no longer support 2G/Edge?

The separate chips for CDMA and GSM is kind of a let down.

Any confirmation on 1GB RAM?

Is A6=A5X?

Running at 960x640 is an easy fix for app devs, but having a black bar is decidedly lacking in apple magic.

Is Lightning just USB in a custom connector with some switch circuits depending on which way you connect it? I like the smaller connector, it was needed. A decade is a long time for a connector.

3GS has seen better days...what would be the cheapest option for non-contract iPhone5?

Am I alone in not being a fan of having the headphone jack on the bottom of the device?

That means I can sit here at my desk and dock my iPhone in my cradle charger and have my headphones connected at the same time.

Just never been a fan of that style.
