The only real (IMO) advantage I see compared to the 4S is the processor. How much faster is the A6 compared to the A5?

They claim twice as fast all around. But we still don't know what the hardware is.

I personally would not upgrade from a 4S to the 5. However, I'm on the 4, and its single-core processor is getting very long in the tooth.

They did mention that the new connector is 100% digital...I wonder if the bottom jack is going to be the new analog "line out" :hmm:

Shit didnt realize they moved it to the bottom. So what if my phone is in a dock and I want to listen to it at the same time using wired headphones.

Ok that will never happen A) because i usually use bluetooth and B) because my docks double as players anyway lol... But STILL what if?

No one in this thread has said it, but every year people say they are disappointed, blah blah, Apple will tank. Apple is late to the game, etc.

Apple was up ~$9 during normal trading and up another $3 in after hours. This will sell well, like the iphones always do. Yes its missing some features, but Apple always seems to add them right as they are actually taking off. Like NFC. NFC is still a novelty. It may start taking off more, but I doubt its widely used by the general populace for at least another year if not two.

The fact of the matter is 95%+ of the populace with smart phones don't even use most advanced features/have no clue how to use them. Nor do they care. Most people can get by with much less phone than any of the top of the line phones. Tech geeks make up a very very tiny percentage of the market. They may be the loudest, but they don't dictate the market.

Apples stock would have skyrocketed if they did the old Jobs, one more thing bit and brought out the iPad mini.

I also have a 4, but honestly... given the cost to get the 5 out of contract... I think I will just go back to Windows Phone.

Wow, LTE is a mess.

If I buy an iPhone in Canada, I can only use it in Canada or on AT&T.

Verizon/Sprint, only on those.

The third model, only in Europe.

All incompatible with each other. So much for this 'dynamic antenna' which does shit-all and you still need three different models.
It's not an antenna problem, it's a port and power amplifier problem. Ports are used to connect the baseband to the power amplifiers that actually boost the signal for the right frequency; the baseband only has so many ports, and each power amplifier takes up space. As a result you can only support so many frequencies at once.

Even if the 5 was the exact same thing as the 4S but with LTE, I'd say it's worth the upgrade. Then again I have unlimited data and actually use it, so network speed is very very important to me.

The only disappointment for me is that they didn't bump up the max capacity and move 32 GB down to $199. C'est la vie, it's an extra $100 for a product I'll use for 2 years.

Otherwise it's a pretty significant upgrade over my current iPhone 4. And my wife will finally have an iPhone.

Why not sign up for a contract. How long have you been with your current provider? I am going to guess > 2 years.

The one all black looks soooo nice! Got a black 32GB 4S though... I'll see what Anand concludes about battery life - if it's a nice improvement, then I'll see.

I usually visit the cell provider's store on the pre-order date. Be aware that you will not go back there the next week to get your phone. Your phone will be shipped to you. I'm not sure how it works at the Apple Store.

The new ear buds are interesting. I ignored the ear buds in the 3GS and the 4S, but I may use the ones in the 5 (at least give them a look). I normally use the in-ear style.

Damn, is this cash?

No. You get an Amazon gift card, which for me, is nearly as good as cash. :p I do wish it was cash though, as I would apply that directly toward my new iPhone.

Only negative aspect for me was that no matter what I did, I could not get the UPS label to work. I had to pay $15 to ship it myself ($10 + insurance). :| My friend got his to work on 2x iPhone 3G phones (yes, not the 3GS) and I got it to work on another random trade-in. Oh well... I bet if I complain, I can get a free gift card. :p

Pretty much just as good. Do they do phone contracts there?

Also, anyone know when pre-orders usually are? Its usually late at night IIRC right?

Yes, but I looked and I didn't see the iPhone available on there.

I dont know that they would hold another event in such a short period of time, and even more unlikely for just a new version of an existing product. Feb/March is my guess.

I would imagine that they would want to get the newer revision out for Christmas sales. However, would they release the mini with refreshed internals without refreshing the original iPad or would they refresh them both? It's a hairy question, because why release a device with really old technology, but why release a smaller version that's technologically better than its larger brother?

I don't think they would want to move the iPad to the winter time frame, because it most likely helps boost their Q1 sales, which are typically lagging for most companies given it's post-Christmas.

The "Lightning to USB" cable is only USB 2.0:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...cable#overview

I really hope that the device supports USB 3.0...one of my biggest gripes with the iPhone 4S is how long it takes to offload photos & video. I have the 32GB model and fill it up a couple times a month...

I don't think it will really matter. Have you seen the tests that Anand has run on mobile device NAND? It's not very fast. USB 2.0 supports up to 480mbps, which is ~60MB/s

Here are some Android results:

You dont think LTE over 3G is an advantage? I think thats huge.

That's one of the big reasons why I'm upgrading. When I saw someone at work get 15Mbps on his Galaxy S3 on Verizon, and I only got .2Mbps on my iPhone 4S on AT&T (4G), I was sold on switching. I may pay $30 more a month, but what's better... $70 and barely usable in some places or $100 and usable everywhere?

Pretty much a rhetorical question! :p

Yeah, it's gonna cost me $260 to break my contract, and the non-subsidized price for the 16 GB is $699. :( I guess the good news is that if I went with the same carrier, I'd get an extra $55 off the $199 subsidized price, so the overall price would be $405.

I'd almost consider something like the Samsung Galaxy SIII if it were cheap, except that it isn't so cheap either, and the screen size is ridiculously big. Also, I would not consider any Android phone unless its manufacturer has already released Jelly Bean for it, or will release an update imminently.

I have to do something though, because my wife wants my 4. She's sick of her 3G.

Bah around metro detroit we waited and waited and never got 4g, no place in michigan is even listed as upcoming LTE.

We were supposed to get 4g right as the Evo rolld out.

Wait, are the LTE data plans more expensive?? What do you mean by $30 more per month?
