You're right. It's now 4 months since Hawaii and Mantle in BF4 stillt exists only on powerpoint slides.
Do you think, the BF4 engine is less complicated than Oxide's?

What about the BF4 server/netcode probs? When exactly was Mantle fully included in Catalyst?

BF4 w/ Mantle has been shown already and IIRC mentioned by the devs as running in December. That's not ppt.

Have you played BF4 at all? Is it not obvious to you? The game needs gameplay/bugfixing patches more then Mantle atm.

I do play BF4, quite often, and I am having a blast. I have no issues. I open up Battlelog, find a server (usually with low ping), connect, game loads, I start playing and enjoy killing pixels that show up on my screen. I don't rage when I die, and blame it on something like netcode or a bugged game.

Now that Mantle is delayed until February, I am very glad I didn't wait for results before buying my new video card. With the increase in price of AMD cards, I would not be a happy camper right now.

No, I do believe you're wrong. It all depends on context. Here's what I understand based on what mark said: Self promotion and linking referrals and links to your own self-serving youtube is against the rules. Linking general benchmarks or whatever is fine, but if you're getting ad or referral revenue from those links, not cool. If you link your own website which generates ad revenue for yourself, not cool. If you're a reseller and you link benchmarks which spams your own reseller and ad revenue website, not cool. If you link your own youtube for self promotion and revenue, not cool. Self promotion is against the rules, which is what markfw stated, at least that's my understanding. You could always ask him if you wanted instead of making blanket statement about youtube.

Self promotion has always been against the rules, at least for as long as I can remember. If someone runs around spamming their amazon referral links, they will generally not be allowed and quickly deleted. Same principle. Because of self promotion.

Anyway, like I said, you could always ask the guy instead of taking this into off topic territory. You could always clarify the rules with the man himself, i'm guessing.

So does that mean all the AMD advocates posting links to AMD presentations were doing wrong or not? Seems like a hazy area to me, the rules are about as clear as mud, especially when there so many undeclared AMD advocates posting. If its all about personal benefit that is kind of confusing, because you need to know the post is benefiting which is far from clear cut.

Nothing official from AMD yet about a delay so its still coming in 5 days. Will be nice to finally see some results rather than a tonne of hype. Getting it into the hands of real reviewers is the main thing so they can tell us what difference it makes and under what conditions, if it makes any at all.

2 months grew to 5+ months.

They said 2 man months, not 2 months. Those statements mean very different things.

2 man months means they total up all the hours of all the people working on it, and have it tally up to 2 months worth of time (looked it up, the 2 man months should be based off their average workers uninterrupted time over 2 months, which is about 40-80 hours a week x 9).

2 man months could take a year, if the person working on it is working on other things as well, such as fixing existing bugs.

Get off me man.
There was a clear statement that thread is locked because of youtube links.

From what I gather, it was self promotion, hence the lock. Informational links are fine, but once it crosses into self promotion territory it is against the rules, which is what markfw stated. He stated this several times in many threads in fact. Informational? Cool. Self promotion? Not cool. If you want to argue it, perhaps you should ask mark or another mod instead of derailing the thread.

Actually, what was said, at least by Johan at APU13 in Nov. was:
"...and it hasn't been that much work actually. We spent around 2 months, or will be spending around 2 months of work bringing this up, and we are targeting an update in late December" He also said they would like to do a bunch more R&D.

I really think they had something very close to releasable even back then. And this is a Dice developer saying this, not AMD. A highly respected guy, so I really doubt he was blowing smoke. He is not the marketing type.

I really don't think that it's Mantle code holding up the show.

You are the one arguing here, causing more derailment.

I would rather not contact Mark, or any other mod - some of us have not the best relations with mods and I would like to avoid their attention if possible.

It happens when it happens...

Where did you hear that?

Call of Duty already got its furry german shepherd!!!
EA is not Blizzard/Valve and BF4 is not Titan/Half Life 3

Its done when its done 🙄

good to see you couldn't actually address my point you could only rant.....:colbert:.

So again please show causation and please explain why 2nd assault is also delayed if mantels delay is a result of its "complexity".

i find it funny things like the original UT have 5 renderers. DICE already have two renderers that are close to mantel running on x86 hardware. But no mantel is just to hard for all the game devs in the world and any dev who says different is obviously lying..... 🙄

Business as usual, another delay. What about the Star Swarm techdemo? It was announced for January as well.

It will have to wait to after bf4 mantle because bf4 is set to be the first one.

The oxide engine and the star swarm bm is pretty much a work in progress and will show far more potential with mantle.

Looks a little stupid to delay oxide because of some bf4 netcode. But for each day mantle gets more mature and first impression last. So it could actually be a good thing for amd.

Its not official ofcource. Lol. I cant remember but we had the info in this thread. Why is it important?

I had read the same thing. Because of all the work Dice did they were going to get to debut Mantle. I imagine that could change depending exactly how long it takes to fix BF4.

I certainly hope it's soon because I spent all night with black loading screens unable to join my friends. I could join other servers, but being unable to load on my squad is annoying...

I just really want to see what mantle can do they need to hurry up.

Do you think that would be on the client side though, or the server?
