No unbiased or objective sources have verified this, as the spec hasn't even been published.

All we know is what AMD wants us to know at this point.

Well people who do know have said it isn't. You can choose to not trust them. The only people who are saying that it is GCN specific are those who have no working understanding of Mantle.

NVidia took 2 years to add a feature that basically put the burden almost squarely on them for implementing multithreading, which likely involved massive changes to their driver code.. But after 2 years, it WORKED and gave massive performance increases.

AMD takes 3 years to develop Mantle, makes a big hullaballoo about it, delays it 3 times, and when it's available it's buggy and only works on certain GCN cards..

Job well done!

I'm not sure if this is serious, or just trolling. :sneaky:

Some of the same people who worked on civ5 have been involved in swarm.

It took a an entire team 3 years to get to 15k batch at civ5 with a i7 6c 12 thread machine. Swarm cost a meager 2 man month do adapt to adapt to the dx engine, and the adoption of Mantle here is excactly an reaction to the end of line for DX. The civ5 is just another perfect example that illustrates why Mantle is comming. Cpu performance is stagnating so DX is going to get stuck at 15k while mantle is going to 1M in 2018.

Besides the consoles that is about 50% of the gaming market, the mobile market is where the growth is. Mantle is cross platform, hardware and OS.

And then all this whining about framentation. Its narrowminded thinking and exactly the oposite. DX is an old monopole not working in a future market where:

1. Consoles is where investments is going
2. Mobile platform attract future dev investments
3. The pc market is dominated by 3 big engines

Its very simple. DX does not fit that future market. EA know and adopts. The situation have changed from 5 years ago. Mantle and/or something similar to mantle is comming and taking a bigger bite each year.

Does anyone think NV is going to use DX for their new mobile platform on the gfx side? Because MT performance is so HUGE - its pathetic. Quoting the false pclab.pl results 50 times in this thread is not going to change reality. We are going to see a new move here from NV with their new cpu arc within the next year. And then hopefully all this crying can stop.
