Well when the pyro update came out, I said the same thing... everyone is going to play pyro, it's going to be annoying, and the balance will be thrown off even more. I got yelled at, people said I never gave TF2 a chance, I'm an idiot, and whatever other flame you can think of.

Then look what happened. PYROS EVERYWHERE! Then Valve removed the HP buff from the Pyro. Oh well, I guess Valve = idiots, just like me?

So here we go again... pub servers are going to be FLOODED with heavies, plus I guarantee there is going to be something wrong with the balancing.

As for the people who said that the unlockables don't serve as any advantage and that they are "equal," I just don't understand your logic. Simply put, if you have the option to use an unlockable ability or weapon and I don't, you have a clear advantage over me. Whether you choose to use that unlockable is your decision, but the playing field is NOT level - we don't have the same weapons and/or abilities to our disposal.

Therefore, in order to maintain a level playing field, I have to go through the trouble of performing the achievements. What a pain, seriously. A few are fun, but the rest are just chores. Why do you think they made achievement maps? To do your chores in less time.

From class to class, the game is currently pretty well balanced. Once the HWGuy patch comes out, there will be some type of balance issue with the new unlockables, I guarantee it. They'll patch it later. Another general balance issue is that damage is randomized within a range, as opposed to precisely calculated damage.

But of course, I will get flamed.

I'm interested to check out the new game mode... who knows.

Why? It's not like they're flat out better. The Backburner is kind of useless now, if I can get behind you with any flamethrower, you're gonna die. I'd rather have the air-blast. Flare gun is pretty wimpy. Blautsauger no longer has crit hits, ubersaw swings slower, etc. There are trade-offs.

But perhaps you are right. Maybe there is a balance problem? At least Valve will fix it.

Slugg, You obviously can't play the game very well or you would realize that the weapons just change the class a bit. For example: The pyro's flare gun can be used for setting people on fire from a distance away. Minor annoyance but useful in some situations. His original shotgun is far more useful to me as I can kick the crap out of other pyros and people running away from me. If you hate the fact that weapons need to be unlocked, that's one thing. I don't really care. I just don't understand how you cant see that the unlocks don't give people an advantage over everyone else. Have you even used any of them?

The only thing they ever readjusted from the unlocks was the +50 hp on the back burner. I actually thought that was fair as I could still mow them down with my mini-gun. Anyways, I would really love to know what unlocked weapons you think provide such an advantage over the others. Do tell.

There are servers that limit the number of people per class. You really need to find some of those and play instead of random servers set up by some guy. It's no fun playing on servers without class limits anyways because you have about 6 sentry guns guarding the enemy intelligence.

Furthermore, a team based primarily on heavies will be absolutely destroyed by snipers and demomen.

It took me about 2 months of casual playing to unlock 2 Pyro weapons and 1 Medic weapon. I was only ever aiming for about 4 achievements, the rest just came automatically while playing. Like you alluded to, spend an hour or two on an achievement map and you're all set if you absolutely must have those new weapons - problem solved.

But I agree with what others say that most unlockables are not more powerful, they just offer a variant of playing (IMO the default flamethrower > backburner). Given proper skill, it is definitely not impossible to beat someone equipped with unlockables with the same class. I have earned the backburner and flare gun and laugh so hard when I destroy another pyro with my shotgun because he was shooting flares at me.

Remember, TF2 is not an MMORPG so accuracy and reflexes count most - not about you being equipped with some puny flare pistol.

You might get flamed for not having much knowledge of these things called "achievement" maps.

I used it for Pyro, not Medic. I had my terrible Flare Gun and situational Axe in 10 minutes. I don't even use the backburner. ZOMG IMBALANCED

And what happened to all those pyros. They're gone. It's a TEMPORARY phenomenon that has to do with people excited to get achievements and get the unlocks. It doesn't ruin the balance of the game as you inevitably have more people go spy and sniper to deal with increased heavy populations. The newness will fade and people will slip back into their former favorite classes and life will return to normal soon enough. As for me, I get a kick out of it for the 2 or 3 weeks it lasts.

Anybody ever hear that "bomb is nearing the checkpoint" lady do her crazy laugh? Happened once on the last level of Goldrush and we could barely play we were laughing so hard. But that was the only time I've heard it and was wondering how to trigger it.

Cart does not push shelf!

I think they should add one that says "In Soviet Russia, cart pushes you!"

There was a website that you could listen to all of the quotes, but for the life of me I can't find it anymore.

they should never have started the 'upgrading' thing. you play deathmatch games to just join in for as long as you want (really short or really long) just to have fun.
i don't want to do worse than another player (beyond just skills) just because I play less than him. it's not an RPG.
I love all of Valve's games, and I like team fortress2; however, it would've been a lot better if Valve had just focused on new maps/gametypes than on making more achievements/guns

there's always an advantage/disadvantage to using the new stuff.

for pyro:

backburner has no compression blast (which is VERY useful)

flare gun has almost no ranged killing power whatsoever.

axetinguisher does 50% damage if target is not on fire.

It's like what myself and most others have stated over and over in this thread, all because it's "new" does not mean it's better. If you have actually used these unlockables, you would know that whatever functionality they offer is offset by major deficiencies. I would like someone to take any unlockable weapon currently available and state why it is grossly overpowered overpowered over its original counterpart.

I still think the axtinguisher is pointless... It's easier and quicker to just keep burning someone than to wait a second while your weapon switches to the axe, and then HOPE your enemy is still in melee range.

It will be a blast playing Demoman

skace you need to be blown up for that one.

Guys I need a new game to play. I have been playing COD4 but the hacks have totally ruined it.

Are there hacks/hackers in TF2?

I have HL2 game ....but I see I need to go get orange box and play the expansions too along with this, it should be worth it.

do you like steam and is this an always on thing connecting to them?

Steam is great, I use it as an interface for ALL of my games and not just valve ones. However for the valve games it's even better because it means that my games will always be updated, I never have to worry about the condition of my media, it's more reliable in terms of hacks (though far from immune), and it's attracting more and more publishers so I can enjoy more future games with theses benefits.

And by the way, I'm not sure if I've EVER seen hacks in TF2. Though I'm sure they exist, they're far from prevalent.

I don't when it was done, but they also added the descriptions to the achievements.

Konspicuous Konsumption: Eat 100 sandviches.

Is eating a sandwich something that the Heavy does when idle?

Rasputin: In a single life, get shot, burned, bludgeoned, and receive explosive damage.

My favorite.

Another
The only thing I can find is:
The other unlocks will be a sandwich that refills 100 health and a minigun that does 25% less damage but slows the movement speed of people it hits by 50%.
Source FWIW

So... maybe the sandvich is something the heavy can both use himself and give to teammates?
