If the religious had this attitude towards nonbelievers for the past 2000 years there wouldn't be any anti-religious sentiment. The problem is that religion is everywhere and pervades our government, moral code and many other tenets of daily life. God is on our money, he's there when we sneeze, even in bed someones always calling his name.
But the religoius CAN'T ignore nonbelievers because prosthelytizing (ain't got sp checker on this biatch) is required by most faiths. i.e. religious people are ordered not to ignore people of other faiths but to actively recruit from them. It's the reason why there are so many christians in the first place, conquer and convert.
So it's all well and good for christians in the modern world to ask for civility and respectful disagreement after raping the world for 2000 years, but pardon the rest of us if we haven't quite forgiven and forgotten it all just yet. But give us some time.

I like this place. Especially the OT section.I hate this place. At least the OT section.
You hear "God bless you" when someone sneezes? Oh shit! they are shoving religion down your throat! quick, be a victim! (FYI, some religions/religious purposely DO NOT say god bless after a sneeze because of its superstitious origins)
so what you are saying is that, its tolerant and not infringing on others rights for an aetheist to never want to be exposed to something religious (in our laws)
I recognize that religion has done some awful things over history and continues to do so in the world. But I'm not going to demonize religious people because of what other religious people have done. Just as I don't want religious people to demonize me for being an atheist.
Does it really help anyone to consider organized religion "the enemy"? Again, live and let live. I'll handle situations like a religious person pushing their views on me as they come up - and if they don't come up, then there's no point in getting all worked up about it.
thanks for proving my point
Is your life that bad that this is how you pass your time?
um, the Constitution says this, not just atheists.
Jesus isnt real
I've got pretty thick skin when it comes to myself. Flame me all you want, I've probably heard it before. But all the hate that goes on around here is just getting out of control.
And now this place is getting flooded with anti-religion posts. I mean there is normally one or two going on but now its all the time. I'm very spiritual but I also realize that not everyone shares my views. That's fine. But why insult things that are Holy to us that are spiritual? Does it somehow make you feel better about yourself? What exactly do you get out of it?
While I do like it here, I don't like being insulted every time I log in.
You have modern medicine, television, the internet, cars, airplanes, and so forth today not because of religion, God, spirituality, shamanism, nor any other such nonsense, but instead because the scientific method produces tangible results.
It's been the same ever since I joined 10 years ago.
We don't have a problem with religion, just Christians. No other religion has such disregard for other peoples beliefs that it encourages members to preach to people of different faiths (or no faith).
If you promise to get Christians of all denominations to stop preaching about how great Jebus is to those of us who don't care, we won't have to discuss how annoying you all are. Win-Win.
If you're supposed to care about people and you believe that your religion is the only way to God, then I guess it's commendable that Christians are trying to save souls.
