Okay, it'll cost me $300. That's still way to much to pay for radio IMO.

If you're thinking along the same lines, just don't take anyone with you, and keep it clean for whoever has to clean up, ok?

But now I think I'll need to buy a boombox option, or car option, or home option....or all of the above. That would end up costing like $600! What the hell? Take a hit on the hardware you bastards and make your money on subscriptions. Or come out with a walkman type device that is reasonably priced that I can listen to indoors and out.

I think I'll have to find someplace to download the prior day's show. That'll just be easier.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this unit have a built in FM modulator which tramsmits to an open area in the FM band? Can't you carry it in the car and in the office with a portable FM radio? This unit is $99.

Well, what do you expect when you over-exagerrate? I mean geez! $600?
You'll definitely get called out on that one

Ummm. I purchased a headunit for my vehicle that was sirius ready. I then spent $50 on a tuner.

So I got sirius in my car for $350 which included a tuner that can play dvds, cds, mp3 dvds, mp3 cds, and have an AUX input for my mp3 player.

Not anywhere near $600

Apparently you can't read because he was interested in listening to it more places than in his car.

Yeah, I seriously thought it was gonna be $600 tho. And their(Sirius) website is of no help at all. On almost all of the receivers it says that either a boombox, car, or home attachment is REQUIRED...which typically adds around $99 for each. Oh well. I was wrong.

Even though they still have no walkman device and their hardware is way overpriced.

They sell it like that so you can buy exactly what you need and only what you need. They could give you the equipment for free and make money off subscriptions, but since they're already losing a crapload of money they'd probably have to up the subscription fees... do you want to pay more for as long as you subscribe, or pay once up front?

You mean likethis?

The S50's internal memory stores up to 50 hours of content ? your favorite SIRIUS programming, your MP3/WMA files, or any combination of the two. When you're listening to SIRIUS, you can pause, rewind, and fast-forward live broadcasts. And when you want to save content, just press the "Love" button on the cradle ? it's the one marked with a heart.

So I can listen to recorded radio...wow. I want to listen to live radio without it being on the dock.

Wow. Boy are you a dumb dumb. Your reading comprehension sure sucks. It has the ability to record sirius radio live broadcast aka like DVR. That does not mean that you can't listen to live content. MR dumbass.

Then what does this mean?
? portable playback of MP3s, WMAs, and stored SIRIUS content
? car cradle and mount (live SIRIUS broadcasts only available when S50 is docked in the cradle)

That doesn't say LIVE, does it? Or am I supposed to carry around the cradle in my pocket the whole time?

A couple of things, may have been already mentioned.

Download the daily show in MP3. Either torrent or it may be available via audible.com ( O&A is now, not sure if Stern will be or not )

Sirius may have a listen online feature ? I have that with XM, and can listen on my PC while I am at work. This is a very neat feature IMO.

There are a large number of people who like talking out of their ass in ATOT. Many seem to have come to this thread.

If you want to listen to Sirius in your home or office, use your computer and the interweb.

They are paying him $500 millio over 10 years I believe, but that's for all his production costs and the help...AKA "Robin"...hohohoho RoBIN!!!...lol...

Bababooey...just kidding.
Man, it's all about NFL!
How about BBC radio?

I don't have either...I'm still deciding between sirius and XM. I heard with sirius, you can add receivers (split the subscription cost amongst friends or family).

Forgetting the cost of getting Sirius, I think the whole idea of subscribing to listen to Howard Stern is stupid. What exactly are you getting? You can listen to him for free now with commercials, and next you will pay $13 a month to listen to him but he can then freely cuss as much as he wants? That's what you're paying $13 a month for? To hear him cuss and use the N-word as much as he wants? I hear cussing everyday for free in person. And I understand there will still be commercials and he is only live 4 days a week?

Seriously what fools are going to pay for this? (If you are then no offense).

You all can bitch and moan about Sirius and Howard Stern, but he sells. Why do you think his show pulls in $10's of millions in advertising a year? He's been filling anti-broadcast radio propoganda to his listeners for the last 1+ year, and I don't think it's going to fail him. His fans have been waiting for this holiday season to get their hardware and subscriptions, and come the first of January, he'll have brought over his die hard fans, and Sirius will have even more subs. It's no fluke that their stock and member base has doubled in the time he announced his move to satellite radio.

Hehe. The only people who will be bitching and moaning are the fools who plop down $300 for a receiver and agree to pay one full year of subscription then sit there listening to 20 minutes of commercials per hour on his show.

Enjoy.

i agree, Stern is not worth that price, but then again people pay lots of money ($100+) for football games, hockey games, baseball games, concerts etc when you can prob see it on tv

I just got Sirius and could not be happier. It is great, but just wish that their hardware was better.

Can wait for Jan to come around.

err, I paid $133 after shipping and tax for the Starmate Replay (came with a car kit and) and a home kit, I used the dealer promo that is floating around and saved $50. If you buy an older unit you can get the unit and the home and car kit for something like $50.

On top of that I paid $10 for activation and $500 for the lifetime sub, which allows me to still get the $7 monthly fee for an additional unit and I can change units with the lifetime sub 3 times for a $75 fee. If my unit gets stolen they will change it for free and not have it count against the 3 lifetime changes as long as I fax in the police report.

I also have XM which I got for free from the dockers promo (I just paid for a home kit). The only advantage I believe that XM has over Sirius is that XM has Audio Books that is kinda fun to listen to.

Satellite radio is definitely worth the monthly fee (you pay for cable or satellite TV=right??)
$600 for equipment is not real. It starts in the $100 range and if you want home kits or boom boxes it may cost an extra hundred bucks or so, but $600 is not real.
