My car came with XM. I didn't think I was gonna subscribe after the first free month, but I was hooked. I can drive across the country and have crystal clear music all the way across. Opie and Anthony on XM make fun of Howard Stern all the time saying he's a has been. I kinda agree. His stuff gets old real fast.
That's why O&A copy his bits all the time, huh??
O&A are ok, but nothing great...

Good content is worth paying for. But now they want me to buy a Receiver. That would be ok if I could listen to it straight from that device. But now I think I'll need to buy a boombox option, or car option, or home option....or all of the above. That would end up costing like $600! What the hell? Take a hit on the hardware you bastards and make your money on subscriptions. Or come out with a walkman type device that is reasonably priced that I can listen to indoors and out.
I think I'll have to find someplace to download the prior day's show. That'll just be easier.

Satellite radios are not that much. But Sirius products are a joke compared to what XM has out there. Howard is not going to do as well as he claims. He's already padding the sub numbers overstating them by 2 million. Howard was the man 10 years ago, but his stuff is dribble now. They are paying him $500 millio over 10 years I believe, but that's for all his production costs and the help...AKA "Robin"...hohohoho RoBIN!!!...lol...

let's put it this way... Sirius will be the demise of Howard Stern. he now can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. there will be no more controversy. his "shock jock" status won't be valid anymore. his pushing-the-envelope allure won't be a draw anymore.Originally posted by: ivol07

we usually have polar opinions of issues. we should revisit this in a year or so and see if Stern's popularity continues to rise, stays the same, or faulters.Originally posted by: DonVito

I doubt it. God knows terrestrial radio broadcasters seem to be in mortal fear of him (hence the fact that the National Association of Broadcasters has undertaken an unprecedented, multi-million dollar ad campaign with the slogan, "you shouldn't have to pay for it").
I understand many people aren't Stern fans (the E! show was admittedly simplistic and frankly boring to me, even as a huge fan), but his show is not just about being shocking. I think he's one of the cleverest, funniest guys around, and his show is hilarious IMO, in a way that transcends him being a "shock jock." Moreover, he has an enormous, loyal fan base, and my guess is that during the holiday season, he will bring Sirius hundreds of thousands of new subscribers.

His raw numbers will most definitely be down. That's obvious. He has anywhere from 8 to 25 million listeners on terrestrial radio, more than the total number of subscribers to XM and Sirius combined. It seems unlikely he can attract that kind of listenership even by the end of his 5-year deal. That said, I think HS will be satellite radio's killer app, just as MTV and HBO were for cable TV, and he will bring millions of new customers to satellite radio.
