That's why O&A copy his bits all the time, huh??

O&A are ok, but nothing great...

"I invented everything Robin. Hoo hoo."

Sorry but listen to the ramblings of an egomaniac for 4 hours is not what I consider entertainment.

The thing to rememebr is they will also be selling ad time during his show.

The only channels oin XM or Sirus that are commercial free are the music channels.

I have XM and I got the whole set-up for like 75 with 3 months of servec. Then they screwed up my billing and gave me another 3 free months.

I have had the service for about 2 years and I love it it.

I get espn, comedy, and a ton of music for my one hour drive to work. well worth the 12 bucks a month.

I mean I pay 25 to netflix and I listen to the XM more than I watch movies. I have also been toying with gettting a MyFi unit but It is a little costly.

Take a hit on the hardware you bastards and make your money on subscriptions. Or come out with a walkman type device that is reasonably priced that I can listen to indoors and out.

I think I'll have to find someplace to download the prior day's show. That'll just be easier.

Obviously you are suffering in ignorance. I got my Sirius radio for $60.00 and the cassette adapter for the car for another $10.00, installed it, made a telephone call and have been happily listening since. The radios are a lot cheaper now. You can also get the radio with a hime kit. Most of the radios come with built in FM transmitters if you don't want to plug it into your stereo input jacks with a wire. The FM option does not have the bandwidth because of the limitations of the FM technology, but sounds OK for the non-critical. I also bought a complete boombox with the reciever at Sams club for $144.00. That was pretty easy and cheap too.

Download time + bother vs. $50.00 to get in plus 12.00 per month? Some things are just more difficult for some people than for others!

I am such a Stern superfan that I bought Sirius largely to support him. I'll probably still download and archive the show fron the newsgroups after his move.

So far I'm pleased with Sirius, and it seems like a worthwhile expense to me. I have a Starmate Replay. The S50 seems cool but very expensive for what it is, particularly since I can download the only thing I'd want to store on it anyway (the Stern show).

let's put it this way... Sirius will be the demise of Howard Stern. he now can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. there will be no more controversy. his "shock jock" status won't be valid anymore. his pushing-the-envelope allure won't be a draw anymore.

bye bye Howard.

Interesting theory, and could very likely be true. He could also be even more outrageous that people in mainstream media would talk about how absurd he's become. Instead of talking about gerbilling... he can have a live demonstration!

Just get a unit that has a bulit in FM Modulator then it will work in both your car and house, you can get one for under $50 total.

Maybe you just didn't look into it very much

I'm getting the Kenwood unit from Crutchfield for Christmas from my brother, was only $69 after rebate and have everything you'd ever need to play it in a car or home.

I doubt it. God knows terrestrial radio broadcasters seem to be in mortal fear of him (hence the fact that the National Association of Broadcasters has undertaken an unprecedented, multi-million dollar ad campaign with the slogan, "you shouldn't have to pay for it," and that Clear Channel and Infinity stations will sell ads to XM, the larger satellite radio service, but not Sirius).

I understand many people aren't Stern fans (the E! show was admittedly simplistic and frankly boring to me, even as a huge fan), but his show is not just about being shocking. I think he's one of the cleverest, funniest guys around, and his show is hilarious IMO, in a way that transcends him being a "shock jock." Moreover, he has an enormous, loyal fan base, and my guess is that during the holiday season, he will bring Sirius hundreds of thousands of new subscribers.

we usually have polar opinions of issues. we should revisit this in a year or so and see if Stern's popularity continues to rise, stays the same, or faulters.

I've never heard Howard Stern broadcast before; I only read about the trouble he stirs up. Although I do support him. I don't think he should be silenced because someone might be *gasp* offended!

Regarding Sirius, it's pointless for me because it doesn't work as far North as I live. They only seem to have their satellites broadcasting to the subarctic latitudes.

His raw numbers will most definitely be down. That's obvious. He has anywhere from 8 to 25 million listeners on terrestrial radio, more than the total number of subscribers to XM and Sirius combined. It seems unlikely he can attract that kind of listenership even by the end of his 5-year deal. That said, I think HS will be satellite radio's killer app, just as MTV and HBO were for cable TV, and he will bring millions of new customers to satellite radio.

Strange...I just made the switch to Sirius for Howard (long time listener). I paid $50 for my Sirius unit and I bought the cradle for the house $80. I did pay $130 plus the subscription fee, but it was well worth it. No commercials and NFL network + Stern!!!

Speaking only for myself, I signed up for a plan where I pay in advance for 12 months, and get them at the price of 11. My credit card will be charged again in another year. I can't imagine I would go out of my way to cancel it even if, God forbid, Howard died or was incapacitated, because the service seems worthwhile to me.

I'd be interested to see how the customer retention numbers are for satellite radio. My guess is that some people who get it preinstalled on their cars don't keep it, but I imagine nearly everyone who affirmatively buys a radio keeps the service for an extended period.

i would like to see a breakdown of that. i would think the internet is used for informational purposes and email on a large scale too.

90% of it's use being classified for entertainment only seems large.

The point was that the internet opened the doors the masses to see the most extreme, uncensored material that they never had access to before.

Satellite radio offers the same domain.
