I've listened to Howard Stern for around 12 years now. I was thinking of getting a Sirius radio but it seems like such a damn hassle. First I have to buy a subscription...okay, I can handle that. Good content is worth paying for. But now they want me to buy a Receiver. That would be ok if I could listen to it straight from that device. But now I think I'll need to buy a boombox option, or car option, or home option....or all of the above. That would end up costing like $600! What the hell? Take a hit on the hardware you bastards and make your money on subscriptions. Or come out with a walkman type device that is reasonably priced that I can listen to indoors and out.

I think I'll have to find someplace to download the prior day's show. That'll just be easier.

Ummm. I purchased a headunit for my vehicle that was sirius ready. I then spent $50 on a tuner.

So I got sirius in my car for $350 which included a tuner that can play dvds, cds, mp3 dvds, mp3 cds, and have an AUX input for my mp3 player.

Not anywhere near $600

thats what I am thinking. 50 for the tuner, the kenwood one is cheap and then you can get one that does everything

Satellite radios are not that much. But Sirius products are a joke compared to what XM has out there. Howard is not going to do as well as he claims. He's already padding the sub numbers overstating them by 2 million. Howard was the man 10 years ago, but his stuff is dribble now. They are paying him $500 millio over 10 years I believe, but that's for all his production costs and the help...AKA "Robin"...hohohoho RoBIN!!!...lol...

It is no different than any other product. You have to buy a unit to go with you.
 
My XM receiver was $99 with car-kit included, Home kit is about 50-60 bucks, boombox is another $99 (seen it for much less though), still doesn't even hit $300.

 
This is a stupid thread. If you want to listen to Sirius at work without buying another adapter, you can do so over the Internet. Do your research prior to complaining.

I can't imagine the whole set up setting you back $600. I got XM about a year ago, I got the Skyfi 2 and a home kit for something like $60. I had to prepay 3 months service, but i figured why would I buy it in the first place if I wasn't going to get the service. I also get online access for free now, and could pick up a car kit for $50. I'm sure Sirius offers some competitive pricing on equipment.

Edit: I just went to Sirius' site, they have: "SIRIUS Starmate Replay Radio with Car Kit" for $130 - $50 MIR = $80. Ships for free, requires activation (again, why buy it if you aren't going to get service) If you want a home kit, it is $40.
 
I got a Sirius car kit last Christmas for $50. It was one of the older JVC units, but works great for me with zero problems. I got an additional home kit for another $50, and if you include the auxilary cable I bought for the car, I spent about a total of $125 for all three.

Geez, you guys are douche bags. No wonder that guy killed some people and himself.

Okay, it'll cost me $300. That's still way to much to pay for radio IMO.
 
Took a trip in July and listened to XM on the road.

Sirius Radio is horrible by comparison, not worth the money.
Neither is having to pay for Howard Stern - he's useless.
 
You obviously didn't look into it too much.

The receiver itself is usually around $100, although you can get them on sale for $50. The other pieces are simply bases, that allow you to use it in the car (FM transmitter) or at home (RCA outputs) or in a boombox. A few months back Radioshack had a deal where you got home/car plus receiver for $100. Then pay for the year subscription for like $120 or whatever, and you're looking at $220.

They are coming out with a walkman style unit, I believe in time for Christmas.
