Speaking only for myself, I signed up for a plan where I pay in advance for 12 months, and get them at the price of 11. My credit card will be charged again in another year. I'd be interested to see how the customer retention numbers are for satellite radio. My guess is that some people who get it preinstalled on their cars don't keep it, but I imagine nearly everyone who affirmatively buys a radio keeps the service for an extended period.

Yeah, i think the most important thing about HS isn't the show itself, but him bringing people to satellite radio so they can have a taste of it. I'm not a HS fan, and i've been thinking on going to satellite radio from all the good reviews i've heard about it.

I got my XM when i was driving to work everyday. it was extremely comforting for me...Now that I no longer drive to work, I still keep the service, and listen to it at work, and occasionally when i drive. its only 10 bucks a month, i'm too lazy to cancel it, and its definetely a lifesaver when i do decide to drive.

Yeah, it'll be outside the K-ROCK studios, and he'll be walking to the Sirius studio in Rockefeller Center. I imagine it will be much smaller if there's a transit strike. Hard to know at this point if that'll happen.

if there is a strike the PATH trains will be running from wtc to 33rd street and i already have a quikcard. is the studio around there? i can always walk up to rockefeller from herald square.

i think you will all be suprised what satellite radio will turn into. There is plenty more to offer then just Howard Stern. You are not paying just for howard stern. You are paying for commercial free music and uncut music as well as talk. It will not cost you 600 dollars for a setup. I was able to get everything i need, for $200, and that was with one of the higher priced sirius receivers. And a year subscription for 140.

God knows terrestrial radio broadcasters seem to be in mortal fear of him (hence the fact that the National Association of Broadcasters has undertaken an unprecedented, multi-million dollar ad campaign with the slogan, "you shouldn't have to pay for it," and that Clear Channel and Infinity stations will sell ads to XM, the larger satellite radio service, but not Sirius).

I understand many people aren't Stern fans (the E! show was admittedly simplistic and frankly boring to me, even as a huge fan), but his show is not just about being shocking. I think he's one of the cleverest, funniest guys around, and his show is hilarious IMO, in a way that transcends him being a "shock jock." Moreover, he has an enormous, loyal fan base, and my guess is that during the holiday season, he will bring Sirius hundreds of thousands of new subscribers.

I hope so. Maybe my stock will finally pay for that swimming pool. I was disappointed yesterday when I was Christmas shopping and I couldn't find a seasonal music channel on Sirius. I had to listen to local free FM that kept fading and had to keep changing stations. We shop in a fifty mile radius with lots of mountains. Even sat TV has a seasonal music channel! I loaded a lot of seasonal stuff on an MP3 player for the next shopping trip.

Sirius has a seasonal channel, it's 62. "Country Christmas", though.

I'll try 62 when we are out today. Not much of a country fan, (like a couple of groups) but for seasonal music it's OK.
