Pandora doesn't want to load for me.

Minneapolis.

Edit: It took 5 minutes, but my favorite station finally started playing.

Browsing AT on the phone, pages seem to be loading fine, don't really notice any slow downs.

In Chicago

I did a speed test on my iPhone over 3G, and it was only slightly slower than usual.

Operation Chokehold = FAIL! Go back to AOL, you worthless script kiddies. You can't even get the worst cellular network in the country to slow down even more than it already was. How pathetic is that?

Deliberately causing harm to a network he does not own or operate. Could even be a federal offense.

He isnt causing anything, he told others to crowd the network. You need to hop off the "telco companies are perfect and should be able to do whatever they want" soapbox

Loaded up Pandora here.

Absolutely no difference at all. Speed and quality is exactly the same.

FAIL

How can you tell normal terrible from this terrible? It took me almost 3 minutes to load a mobile website (slashdot mobile) last night, so their network is balls to begin with.

I can't play a high quality song from Pandora for more than 5 seconds without it cutting out and buffering for anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes. AT&T's network in Minneapolis has been pretty terrible since the intro of the 3GS, this just confirms it for me.

dslreports.com speedtest report: average latency (MPLS to Chicago) - 2459ms. Download speed - 21 kilobits/sec. Upload speed - 4 kilobits/sec.

Operation fail my ass. For those of you not experiencing slow downs, be glad you live in an area with decent 3G service.

That's the thing with AT&T's network... they have good days and bad days. Is it really being caused by Operation Chokehold, or is it just regular network slowness?

Anyway, I'm still getting 1856 kbps download, and 229 kbps upload. That's pretty much on par with this area.

Considering I can routinely pull down 700 kb/s and put up 150 kb/s yet still suffer constant dropped calls, completely missed calls, and hours late text messages, I think the correlation is certainly there.

Until the 3GS' intro, I didn't have many complaints about AT&T. That all changed last summer.

I can't even connect to 3G at the moment. Been stuck on edge since about 3:30 eastern time maybe longer than that is when I started trying stream radio not apart of operation chokehold because I usually listen to All Things Considered at 4 PM everyday

Woot now ATT can blame these guys for their crappy service and label them as terrorists while they're at it.

I wonder how much data is alot

I have used 348.42MB this month and this billing cycle ends 1/6/10

To AT&T, 1MB is already a lot and 100MB is probably astronomical. So your contract will probably be cancelled and you will be forced to go onto GoPhone prepaid and pay $5/MB and $20/100MB for the rest of your life with AT&T until you go elsewhere. The ghost of telecoms past will nevertheless continue to hunt you down and haunt you until you completely drop off the grid.

I'd like to thank the moderators/admins/Anand's pet monkey CoCo for allowing this thread.

It generated a hell of a lot of pageviews, and I think the public awareness of ATT's unwillingness to invest in towers/infrastructure is pretty well established.

Sure ATT's corporate HQ didn't go down in flames, but it made a point.

This is just pure nonsense.AT&Ts wireless capex has been more than revenues for wireless data. It also appears their 3g 7.2 standard is starting to roll out now. They have added 2000+ new towers in the past year as well added capacity to existing towers. Billions more will be spent 2010 for wireless upprades. Yes there are problems, and they were being addressed well before this chokepoint started this week.

Yes they cut capex in the past year, but they are not alone in that respect. They still managed 17B total in capex for 2009.

Yet, somehow, in spiite of all that, Verizon kicks their ass and is already installing the infrastructure for the iPhone.

ATT is going to have some problems when it loses iPhone exclusiivity
