I haven't seen one of Sprint's commercials for it in a while (just Clear's lately), but I'm sure they refer to mobile broadband and not phones (although it's easy to take it as implied). I wonder how long it'll be before 4G phones get released.

I had a huge argument with one of my coworkers about this. He thought that the Palm Pre was 4G capable.

As long as there are subsidied phones, there are going to ETF fees. And it appears the american consumer overall likes cheap subsidized phones.

America is not the only country that does contracts on cell service and offers subsidies on phones.

Look kid, I pay for good service for ATT, and I would like it to stay that way.

Read that a few times, it will sink in.

So, let me get this straight. You're not complaining about poor service, but rather about good service? You want it to stay that way, but you want people to be doing stupid shit like this so that it changes things?

The only thing I can actually gather from your posts in this thread is you believe your rights are somehow being violated. I'd love to hear about the freedom you've lost as part of this poor (but actually good in your case?) service. I'm sure the ACLU would as well. In fact, something tells me they would be much better for handling this than posting about it on the internet.

Yeah, for years now, when someone googles ATT, they'll come across a link about how unhappy people are with ATT, it's a PR firm's worst nightmare.

"Oh fuck, Verizon's ads are popular & accurate and our customers are trying to bring down the network? Only Luke Wilson can save us now."

What do you suggest we in the US actually do to change the cell industry that will actually work?

Everyone cancel their service, be left with a useless phone, pay an ETF fee between $150 & $300 and sign another contract with another cell company?

Do you really thing change happens when no one asks for it? The cell carriers are just going to change their business practices out of the goodness of their heart?

I'm not saying you aren't valid in complaining (although I'm kinda confused that the people complaining in this thread don't seem to actually be directly affected by the poor service this whole thing is about), but you're going about it in pretty much the dumbest way possible. Can you see why we think its stupid to complain if you keep refusing to actually do so in the proper places and actually take meaningful action?

Who to contact: whomever is providing your poor service, the FCC, your state's attorney general, consumer advocacy groups, Better Business Bureau, in the case of the iPhone Apple, and that's just the ones I can rattle off the top of my head. But, I'm sure they all actively pursue claims made on random blogs and facebook, in fact, I'm sure that's the quickest way to inform them.

Yet Verizon doesn't have a massive PR problem.

Could it be possible that maybe this is just much ado about nothing.

There are no doubt some bandwidth problems, but as I have stated several times ATT is putting more capacity in place. While capex was cut during a recession, they are still spending several billion this year on wireless. That is far cry from nothing, which is what you continue to claim.

You also continue to fail to answer how verizons network would have handled the iphones bandwidth requirements.

LOL, you keep saying the same things over & over, go find another thread.

SNL jumped on the bandwagon, if you think ATT's not going to do some serious work in SF & NYC now, you're sadly mistaken.

ATT & Apple shareholders are now well aware of the criticism, and will be asking questions...

But I guess a couple of complaint letters/emails that get ignored will make a bigger difference.

I love it, you on one hand admit there are problems, and then say ATT's fixing it and wonder why people are complaining.

One would think they'd have realized with the sales numbers and revenue the iPhone generated, they'd have reacted a bit more quickly.

Oh yeah, you're an ATT apologist, forgot about that.

Is reading a serious issue for you?

You're right, I do keep saying the same thing because you keep ignoring it when I've posted the solutions to your [supposed] problems.

Oh, SNL made fun of the iPhone's calling issues (notice they didn't mention data though, which is a big part of what this issue is), damn, no doubt things will get changed now.

A couple? If you had the same number of people who joined the Facebook group for the "protest" then it would amount to more than a couple. So, let's see, they could do the exact same thing they've already done (whine about it on the internet), but they could do it in a little complaint section. Care to guess which would be more effective in actually getting something accomplished?

http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm?sid=&id=d1e408

Apparently that's too damn difficult.

LOL, the thing is, it's made a difference, and will continue to make a difference.

Kills you doesn't it :D

What I find interesting, as that this thread is so important to you...

Welcome to the internets, things are going to be different.

Operation Chokehold is a harbinger of things to come, will there be stupid shit protested? of course, and there'll be shit that makes me crazier than this makes you, but the world is changing, only a fool doesn't realize it...

The sad thing is that I'm likely 2X your age and I can see it.

What did you expect verizon to say? That they have done nothing to prepare their networks? My point and has been along that all carriers have had significant investment in their networks, ATT included.

Ok, you've made your point.

Goodbye :D

No, I'm glad something is [supposedly] being done. Too bad this is something that could have been accomplished years ago. Fact is, like I posted earlier, something was already being done, so I'm not sure how you can feel like this really accomplished much. Verizon did far more damage to AT&T than this did.

See, you think I'm pissed that this has gotten press, I'm not. In fact, I'm smart enough to know that by posting, I'm actually helping to keep this in people's awareness. Of course, maybe there's a reason I kept posting the same stuff over and over, about better ways to go about accomplishing the same thing? Surely not. It must be because I didn't want something to be accomplished, clearly, that must have been why I was talking about better ways of achieving the same goal.

Harbinger of things to come? This is the same shit that's been tried before. I'm still laughing that you consider this protesting and comparable to things have come before. MLK Jr. is rolling in his grave at your bastardization of civil disobedience.

Welcome to the internets? Just where the fuck have you been?

Well last night I was at dinner with a smoking hot Peruvian woman with some pretty good implants :D

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Hints-Of-72-Mbps-ATT-3G-In-Kansas-City-106060

Last post in the thread, yet another sign of ATT doing nothing to upgrade it networks.

Did you read all the posts of folks saying they can't even get 3G service in that thread?

And a software update to the existing network ain't rocket science.

http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/200...nds-u-s-cell-phone-service-providers-lacking/

AT&T was the lowest-rated cell-phone service provider and received low marks in voice service and customer support. Verizon was the top-rated carrier and handily beat AT&T in all areas surveyed.
It's not just about towers either...

It's their corporate culture.

It may not be rocket science, but it is happening and will fix many of the problems that are being experienced.

Actually, no. With Sprint, I pay 56 a month for unlimited anytime mobile to mobile (any network) phone calls and unlimited nighttime/weekend landline calls, 450 minutes a month for weekday daytime landline calls. Also Unlimited texting, and data on my blackberry.

Sure, you gripe that their customer service sucks, but I've never had to call support since switching over.

You guys with AT&T have no idea how bad you have it.

Apparently, you too are clueless. Sprint has been at the bottom of the barrel for about 2 years now, when you talk customer service.

To their credit, SNL got it right. The funny thing is, I haven't had a drop call since I had my 3G iPhone after about a month or so. I still haven't had a drop call with my 3GS, unless you count the 2 times the battery died on me. How is that possible? Well all you have to do is turn off 3G, and use edge. Yeah, I agree that you shouldn't have to do it, but it works. Lately, I only need to do it when I go into NYC.
