Best. Movie. Ever.

I wouldn't go that far myself, but entertaining. The great Bill Paxton was in it too, sigh.

I was living in The Keys when they filmed that, where they blew up the old highway. Good times.

So are we to believe that no certain satellites are being moved towards Ukraine to gather intelligence?
Not easily "moved". Plenty of military and private/public assets for imaging going on (21st century). Polar orbits and earth rotation facilitate this. Spend ten minutes star gazing.

Thousands are currently dying everyday solely because of one man's ego. I see nothing wrong with hoping for a revolution, which would almost certainly include his killing.

I don't disagree. It's one thing wishing for a country to rise up and overtake a tyrant. It's another to pile into what amounts to a public bounty on a world leader. Just flip that around and say Russia did the same thing *publicly* against Biden. The original comment was suggesting a go fund me for an assassination bounty.

Legally I'm not sure you want your name on such a list. Ethically think about how ugly that can get.

Plea to impose no fly zone:
Have seen arguments that closing the sky would have limited impact - majority of barrages into the cities are from artillery and from missile launchers positioned back in Belarus and Russia.
The problem with a NFZ is that you're effectively declaring war the moment you go to enforce it. We'd have to knock out Russian anti-aircraft stuff on the ground to operate in the area safely and also shoot down any Russian planes/helicopters flying into a NFZ.

Yeah no fly zones are something that a lot of people don't seem to understand. It's one thing to declare it, another entirely to enforce it. It's the enforcing that is the scary part for everyone.

A no fly zone could have Russia resorting to even more long-range artillery and missile attacks. And given they've already been hitting civilian targets from up close, I don't think we want to give them excuses for example, "our rusted **** isn't as accurate as we thought it was". As long as Ukraine has AA capabilities and keeps getting Stingers, I'd leave it alone.

Come on, we've all seen the movies. A couple button presses and a geostationary satellite slides right into place.
I may be wrong, but I suspect the only geostationary spy satellites are for listening to RF information. And of course military command communications (relay of drone images, control, ect.)

Unfortunately, I think Putin is willing to sacrifice a lot of innocent Russians, and because how the culture/history/media censorship of Russia is, the population is not going to uprise. I think they will take the suffering of the sanctions and the lives lost in the war as part of "being Russian", like it is a natural law or simply the destiny of the Russian people, always to suffer.

Well, that's the trope about Russians. The reality is that they lost 15000 in Afghanistan over 10 years and that fed into the collapse of the Soviet Union. The losses in the second Chechen war over the main 9 months of fighting were around 3500, already exceeded and that was was also fairly unpopular in Russia.

If Putin has lost say 5000 in a week, or even 3 or 4 thousand, this war is not going to be well received.

You cant leave a mad man to its own in the hopes of not making things worse.
