and seeing as he rated them 70th they Shih Tzu's in question probably wrote him off as a hack and decided that there were far better things to concentrate on that some silly person with a ball 🙂

Jack Russell's are evil vicious, hyper mean little beasts. At least all of his are.

No offense if you like them, but after having them run over here all the time harassing (& twice killing) my various peaceful animals I can't stand Jack Russell terriers.

They don't seem very intelligent.
 
I have an Australian Shepard, does anybody know if this is the same as an Australian Cattle dog?

He is pretty smart it seems. Brings back balls, chases the water hose.
 
That's a ranking of obedience rather than intelligence. The 2 are not necessarily the same thing. Just because a particular breed might have a streak of independence does not mean that it is not intelligent.

No, they are two different dog breeds. Not the same.

Edit: Australian Shepherd is tied for 42nd place on this list.

Jack Russel's are not recognized as a breed by the kennel club or whatever I don't believe.

I love the JRT. Great, smart, small dogs.

Beagles are "food smart" but they're pretty stubburn when it comes to anything else. The family dog is on an invisbile fence and gets along fine with it. It doesn't matter where he is in the yard though, if someone starts preparing food in the kitchen, he's immediatly up to the house begging 😀.

My dogs are #12 on the list 🙂 ones pretty crafty (she's a year and a half old) .... however our other puppy isn't the brightest bulb on the tree (he's about 6 months old)....
 
..I don't disagree wit the list. Owned large breeds over the years and now have two Chihuahua's. Continualy amazed how intuitive and sharp they are and must to be among the cleanest dogs around. House training was a breeze unlike the others. They have a high degree of situational awareness and always let me know if something's going on.
 
As another beagle owner I can also attest to stubborness. I also read somewhere that beagles will respond to hand signals/commands much better than voice commands. I'm not sure about this because my two usually have their eyes/noses to the ground.

Agreed.

Compliance != intelligence. I have a Rhodesian which ranks in the 50's. I'd agree that she isn't the most responsive to commands. It's not because she's dumb, but because she's stubborn.

Some of the most "trainable" and "compliant" human beings are also mentally handicapped. Many functional mentally challenged people will follow commands all day long...but some of them aren't able to tie their own shoes.

Does that make them smart?

 
Someday when I get my own place I'd like to get a doberman pincher and a golden retriever or labrador. I've had 3 Labs and they're always excellent dogs. My current lab though is a terrible guard dog. My last one was great though..I think it's a hit or miss. I'd like a doberman because they're very alert/intimidating. The Lab's have always been more relaxed/fun/lazy.

No kidding, that should be down at the bottom of the barrel. Huskies are about the dumbest breeds - not just obedience, but in self-preservation. You know what the typical Husky approach to a porcupine is?

(BTW, if anyone's dog - or your own stupid ass, for that matter - gets quilled, don't yank them out. They're barbed. Cut them off as close to the flesh as possible, which deflates the air pocket inside them, retracting the barbs - then remove.)

that's the problem with the massive amount of inbreeding poodles received at puppy mills across the country during the last several decades. not so long ago they were the most popular dog in america, with a reputation of being strong and sporting.






one of my dogs is on the last page. the other i didn't see. i imagine the guy wouldn't rank bichon frieses very highly. my dog is very smart. too smart, in fact. he will do any command on the first try if you're about to give him a treat. but if he knows you don't have a treat, he just doesn't care.

..I've seen pitbulls completly trashed by porky pines too. So far my Chihuahua's bark furiously at them then run back to the house.
