Ranking of Dogs for Intelligence by Breed

Smartest dog I ever saw was a Bouvier. The dog could guard any object if its master would touch it, wave his hand in the air, and say "no."

I saw the owner have someone down a beer, the set it down on the floor. He then went over to the bottle and motioned for the dog to protect it. The dog didn't even look interested.
He walked out of the room and yelled back, "try to touch it."

My buddy Bob took two steps toward it and that dog leaped up and was the biggest mass of snarling, drooling, growling hair ball I ever saw.

I have a yellow lab that understands a lot of words we use. We asked the vet if this was normal and she said "labs aren't really known for thei intelligence."
Why the hell would a dog be used for bomb sniffing, and aid if it weren't intelligent?

#12 Miniature Schnauzer

We had a mini Schnauzer; she was very alert but not very obedient. In her older years (we're talking 15/16 years old) she enjoyed barking at cabinents and sitting in her water dish.

Boston Terriers should be at the end of the list. Those are some stupid dogs. I'll agree that poodles are smart, though. My dad had a French Poodle a while back that would respond to dozens of words.

German Shepard.. #3. She figured out how to open our kitchen door by herself so she could let herself in when we weren't watching. Pretty crafty I think.

My parent's American Staffordshire Terrier opens their sliding screen doors with her head. My dad tried to teach her to close it behind her, but she wasn't interested.
My sister brought her English Bulldog over and it broke through the sliding screen door when it wanted to go out.
