As I watched all of the Impeachment, Adams oration is all review for me, but by hell or high water, when Nancy retires, this man should be the next Speaker of the House. Not too many people who can stand up there and clearly present all of the facts with all of the angles to the facts. He's almost done, just said he has about 10 more minutes. Fuck the Republicans if they can't muster the guts to at least let this look like a trial. Sadly, I doubt it. Mitch has no moral compass, it's all about accumulation of power. I hope some Republicans can save us from Trump, but I doubt it.

He has no choice but to stand there and lay out the facts. They won't be allowed to have witnesses or subpoena documents. Their only choice is to heavily lay out all the facts which could be to their detriment because they will have less to to focus on other areas. There's a reason you've heard the phrase "cover-up" non stop since the process started yesterday. They need that idea to stick with the American people.
 
Trump is in the process of being impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors of which the House more than adequately proved. However it's McConnell that actually needs to be impeached in place of Trump because he is the one enabling Trump's miscarriages of justice. He is the one obstructing justice. He is the one giving Trump permission to do anything he wants and let him get away with it.

If Trump gets acquitted, the first thing he will do after that is go head hunting for every person that caused him so much angst and sleepless nights. In this way he can get rid of any leakers and traitors that ratted him out. He will clean house and make sure there aren't any more trouble makers in his administration.

Those folks who thought about further exposing Trump's crimes against the people will sew their mouths shut out of the real fear that Trump will get them one way or another and ruin their careers in service to the gov't.

He will then become the de facto dictator he always wanted to be and McConnell and his treacherous band of Repubs in the Legislature will be his accomplices.

This upcoming election is to me the most critically important one our nation will face in modern times for it will decide whether or not we fully become a Fascist State led by a President who is indebted to Russia and their leader Putin for helping him get elected and reelected.

Oh, I know exactly what he is doing, getting more eyeballs on the facts as much as possible for the people. I don't think Mitch gives one flying F for the people, and sadly his whole party does not either.
 
So the argument warning of what future Presidents will do with Trump's precedent that Presidents are above the law is one that all Republicans should take heed of. Your party will not be in power forever.

If we want overall fairness beyond this impeachment then Mitch McConnell must be defeated in his upcoming election thus removed from the senate. But that might not be enough. If McConnell was removed yet republicans held onto the senate then some other republican would take McConnell's place and become just as hard-ass because that new republican senate leader would want to make a name for himself or herself just as McConnell had done. So it is not enough to simply defeat and remove McConnell, democrats must take back the senate and hold onto the house as well. Then, we can have fairness and get this thing we call government back on track.

Given Trump gets away with his crimes, this time around, and should democrats re-take the senate and hold the house in November, I don't see why democrats can not do this impeachment thing all over again come 2021 assuming Donald Trump is re-elected.
Democrats can and should impeach re-elected Donald Trump again in 2021.
And we know that republicans would say "TRUMP WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY SO TRUMP CAN NOT BE IMPEACHED FOR THE SAME CRIMES".
That would be republicans argument.
But hopefully democrats would simply ignore that argument and go after Trump again for the very same crimes Trump got away with when the senate was controlled by republicans.

So here's the deal.....
Either democrats must take back the senate and retain the house.
Or...
Donald Trump must be defeated in November.
Or....
All of the above.
That's it.
That is exactly what needs to be done.
The bottom line, as they say.

Unlike the House investigation that received little live airtime these proceedings are being watched live by millions and public opinion is changing daily in favor of removing Trump from office. If not by impeachment then by voting him out of office. In 4 swing states that voted for Trump in 2016 he now trails any Democratic candidate by 10% or more. In other words the 2020 election is shaping up to be 'Anyone but Trump' and his base will be SOL getting him reelected. As this trial continues and more voters are paying attention to the facts, public opinion is going to be even stronger so that witnesses, documents, and newly discovered information will have to be allowed. This should prove to be the end for Trump because no Republican Senators who are up for reelection want to be swept out in an election that sets out to specifically remove Trump from office. Trump's clown possy seems to be unable to come up with any kind of defense for his actions. It's doubtful that public opinion would become strong enough for removal by the Senate, but one can only hope.

Once on the trump train there is no possibility of getting, off unless you are willing to get hurt. It’s why we’ve seen huge numbers of republicans resigning instead of fighting back against trump.

They are all in it together and they are heading off of a cliff. Expect a mass exodus one month before the election but it won’t do them any good as they’ll be jumping off the train as it’s riding off the cliff.

The election is still 10 months away, that is about 900 news cycles. The GOP knows full well that if they just stonewall now almost everyone will have forgotten all about this by then, because there will have been 150 other scandals between then and now. So the GOP plan is to make this boring so people don't pay attention and it is forgotten by the election. If there is little to talk about then little will be said about it. Denying witnesses and documents is not so much about covering up as limiting things for news anchors to analyze and talk about for months.

I know there are A LOT of Trumpies around here, lurking in the shadows, keeping silent and biting their tongue, refusing to get involved in all of this. They are keeping quiet, for now, but they also know that Donald Trump will be found not guilty in the end, and they truly believe Donald Trump will be re-elected in November.
So while this thread seems one sided, the guilt of Donald Trump so obvious, the crimes of Donald Trump so undeniable, despite all that and regardless of... we have a lot of Trumpies around here. This thread is not as one sided as it may appear.
We don't see them now, but they will come out into the sunlight the very day Donald Trump is exonerated. To gloat and to do the happy dance. They also appeared way back in 2016 the same day when Trump was declared the winner. Oh yes, there have not given up on Donald Trump, no they haven't, they are right here... waiting.

I really hope the Dems don't stoop to thier level or abuse of power though. Someone has to have moral ethical integrity our nation deserves.

Maybe I'm thinking the ways things used to be, but if the Republicans vote for a cover-up, contrary to what they must be thinking at this point, it won't be politically benenificial, and there will be one of the biggest routs in political history come 2020.

Any non-brainwashed person who read the transcript knows he's guilty. It's illegal to solicit campaign help from a foreign govt. There is no other reason to have the Bidens investigated. It's even more illegal to demand it as a bribe, like a construction inspector who won't sign off on the work until you grease his palm. It is astoundingly immoral & wrong that he corrupted all those people & the system itself in the attempt.

good point down there in the comments: why is a juror (on any trial) tweeting during the trial?
Shouldnt' jurors have their phones confiscated and actually, uh, do their sworn duty as jurors?

Roberts needs to gain control of these deplorables and remind them of their jobs, take their phones, and treat them like citizens are to be treated.

I believe they are doing all their tweeting during breaks, or when they leave the floor completely.

While I would like to see Roberts make some effort to show that this process matters and should be taken seriously, he sadly cannot dismiss all the ####ing idiot jurors.
