No minds will be changed and that’s not the point.

Polls are moving. We've seen that.

Yes by small margins, and not enough to move craven R politicians, but it matters come Nov, esp in the mushy middle that decides the outcome.

That's the missed opportunity

It does matter because it's showing the American people who actually cares about this country and not just about themselves. It shows Democrats doing their duty and Republicans no doing their duty.

It won't make an ounce of difference in the outcome of the impeachment trial but it will make a difference in 2020.

If it doesn't then we're all well & truly fucked because that way lies madness.

Appears Chuck is on fire

Funny thing is Trump would much prefer to work with Chuck & Nancy for the majority of stuff. He’d likely get more done doing so too.
Sadly the President cannot let go of his fears & ego.

I still can't understand why the House decided to rush this.

I get that dragging it out for a year and waiting on slow appeals processes to move through courts wouldn't be helpful.

BUT...

There was sooooo much in flux and still outstanding that letting it stew for a few months in a forum they control would have been potent.

There is ample evidence to convict, given an honest jury. If the jury isn't honest, more evidence won't make 'em honest. Trump is a threat to Democracy & our most fundamental values. If the GOP won't toss him out, they're part of the same threat. So strike while the iron is hot & put the mark where everybody can see it.

What Democrats are trying to alarm people about is not so much what Donald Trump has done but what Donald Trump will do if allowed to continue on and if re-elected.
it’s all about who and what this monster is and what he is not.
Yet, half of America do not care.
We have officially entered the twilight zone.

We'll see if it's anywhere near half in November.

Good lord it’s finally over. The Dems destroyed the trump defense team who seemed completely unprepared at best and amateurish at worst.

The last amendment called for the Chief Justice to decide on the relevance of any witness called and it still allowed for an override if there were enough votes. Unsurprisingly republicans voted against it which shows how disingenuous they are and how much of a sham trial this is.

Republicans will pay for this.

Republicans will pay for this.

Frankly, this back and forth has been going on for some time now.
I think it may have started with Nixon and his resignation that gave the republican party a black eye thus republicans wanted to get even, they wanted to take out their humiliation on the other side, on the democrats.

If not then, then this back and forth certainly started during Reagan and his nominee Robert Bork.
Democrats were successful in derailing Bork as Reagan's US Supreme Court justice and that made Mitch McConnell VERY VERY VERY ANGRY.
McConnell was a member of the senate back then and McConnell never got over Bork's defeat. McConnell blamed democrats and their dirty tactics for forcing Reagan to withdraw Robert Bork. Right then at that very moment Mitch McConnell made the decision to one day get even with democrats no matter how long it took. And that desire for McConnell revenge explains Merrick Garland.
McConnell only pulled that stunt against Garland, which was totally unprecedented and totally unconstitutional, simply because of what democrats had done to Robert Bork and to Ronald Reagan.

Figure into that McConnell hate was the election of Obama.
McConnell was royally pissed off about that democratic win as well.
And McConnell promised from day one that Obama would be a one-term president, which Obama wasn't, but never the less McConnell would continue to hold a grudge and seek revenge at every opportunity...which he has and forever will.
McConnell has no soul.
His entire existence is only to screw with the democrats.
Expect nothing less.

Then.... come 2016 this back and forth returned back to the democrats.
Hillary losing, Trump and Russia having something to do with that loss, and the election of Donald Trump. All that democrats needed to do was to bite their time and wait for their turn at revenge. And once democrats took over the house in 2018 they wasted no time planning the impeachment of Donald Trump.
Again, the back and forth of REVENGE.

So.... house democrats impeach Donald Trump and well, here we are today.
Democrats and republicans going at each others throat, and once again Mitch McConnell not budging one single inch.
We all knew how this would turn out....
Mitch McConnell revenge and getting even for Robert Bork and for Obama and for the Trump impeachment and toss into the mix a little Richard Nixon humiliation.

This is never going to end.
As long as Mitch McConnell is around our entire government will continue to be dysfunctional. For Mitch McConnell it's personal. Very personal. And McConnell doesn't give a damn if he brings the entire US constitution down with him, he will have his revenge.
And at some point in the future, hopefully the near future, the pendulum will swing the other way and democrats will have their chance at revenge.
Hopefully, democrats have the balls.

Impeachment trial in layman terms for dumb dumb babies?

Can you imagine if we did sports like this?

Kyle Shanahan, the coach of the San Francisco 49ers, walks to the middle of the field and shakes hands with Andy Reid, the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Fifty-seven cameras, 65,000 people in the stands, and 100 million people around the world eavesdrop.

Referee: Gentlemen, welcome to the Super Bowl. One thing I want to make clear before we start: The 49ers are going to win.

There’s a pause. Shanahan smiles.

Reid: Wait, what?

Referee: Yeah, we don’t really need to play the game. The San Francisco 49ers are going to win. It’s already been decided.

Reid, flabbergasted, looks at Shanahan.

Reid: What the hell? Who decided?

Referee: Us. The 49ers and the officials. We’ve actually been working hand in hand with them. We take our instructions from Coach Shanahan. We serve at the pleasure of the Niners.

Shanahan folds his arms and looks at the crowd.

Shanahan: Besides, the parade is Tuesday. I want this over with before the parade.

Reid: Are you guys out of your minds?

Shanahan: This whole game is a hoax anyway, Andy. A lot of people are saying so. We shouldn’t have to play. We haven’t done anything wrong. We had a perfect season.

Reid: You lost three games! You lost to the Falcons!

Shanahan: I categorically and unequivocally deny that.

Referee: San Francisco will win, Coach Reid. The sooner this is over, the better it is for the country.

Reid is dumbstruck. He throws his arms out and tosses his head back.

Reid: This is insane!

Referee: But we still kinda have to play the game, so we’ll do that. One thing, though, Coach Reid: You can’t put out any of your players.

Reid: Excuse me?

Referee: Yeah, we’ll play the game. I mean, we’re going to call it a game, but it’s just going to be the 49ers on the field. All your guys have to stay on the bench.

Shanahan: Except your punter. You can punt.

Reid: Who dreamed this up?

Referee: Oh, Mitch McConnell. Leader of the Senate. For the Trump impeachment trial. He showed us how to do it. You hold the trial but you don’t really hold the trial. I mean, you pretend to hold the trial. You put your hand on the Bible and all that, but—I mean, please. Am I right?

Reid: But you swore to be impartial!

Referee: Swore, schmore.

Reid: And all the refs feel this way?

Referee: No. But it’s a nine-man crew and we have the votes.

Reid takes off his hat and clutches his haircut.

Shanahan: Besides, Andy, your attempts to win this game are a brazen and unlawful attempt to turn over the rightful outcome of the season. Our attorney says so.

Reid: Who’s your attorney?

Shanahan: Alan Dershowitz.

Reid: The guy who represented O. J. Simpson? And Jeffrey Epstein? Screw him!

Referee: Whoa! That sounds like modern McCarthyism.

Shanahan: We’re clearly a great team. Some are saying the greatest team of all time. We’re doing things nobody’s ever seen before. For us to lose would be a gigantic miscarriage of justice.

Reid: If you’re so fantastic, why don’t you just prove it by playing by the rules?

Referee: These are the rules. Coach Shanahan and I wrote them up on Friday.

Reid: No, they’re not the rules! The rules are already in the rule book. Been there for more than 50 years. You hold the Super Bowl to decide who’s the champion.

Shanahan: Okay, Boomer.

Reid turns to the referee.

Reid: Come on! Your whole job is to be fair. That’s the reason you got hired! You’re gonna get canned!

Referee: Nah. All the owners are making truckloads of money. Nobody’s gonna care.

Shanahan: Face it, Andy. You never really had a chance. Why fight it?

Reid: Because we have the best quarterback in the game. And the best tight end. And the fastest wide receiver. There’s tons of evidence we’d beat you.

Shanahan: Ha, where’d you read that? The lame-stream media?

Reid bows his chest out.

Reid: You know what I think? I think you’re afraid. You can say you won, but if you don’t actually hold a real game, then everybody in the country is going to know it’s a lie.

Referee: Not if we tweet it enough.

Reid holds his face in disbelief.

Reid: So you have zero interest in finding out the truth?

Referee: We’re interested in a fair game.

Shanahan: Exactly. But, you know … not.

Reid: So what are we supposed to do? Just sit and watch?

Referee: Now you’re playing ball! We’ll let you know when it’s over.

Shanahan: Want a red hat?

Imagine if our Justice and criminal system was ran like this. It would fix the problem of over crowded prisons, and stream line the court system. Of course that would be at the expense of the citizens, as all the criminals, murders, and rapists would be free to keep committing those heinous crimes.

Kind of like how the citizens of the United States will pay the price if Trump is allowed to continue on. We are already going to be paying for many years for the damage he has already done.

well the republicans DID say the president had to commit a crime, and the GAO just said he did.....
Republican logic: "but it only counts if it's in a trial, and also, you can't indict the president, and any other remedies like impeachment don't count because fuck you."

Don't forget 'the president didn't get to cross-examine witnesses during the non-trial in the House, and now that we're in the actual trial in the Senate we're not going to allow witnesses.'

But there's not and everyone knew that.

The objective must be focused on the jury who gets to vote in Nov.

Pushing it forward so fast, then trying to get the corrupt GOP to allow key witnesses and evidence, all so this could get done 10 mos ahead of the election makes no sense.

They will likely not get their witnesses, and will give 10 mos for Trump to lie and throw smokebombs at the short memoried electorate.

This isn't a recipe for success IMO.
If they f this up, Trump gets elected, it's on Nancy. We already had one airball with Mueller.

I'm not sure how right any of this is. Is the answer to sit on impeachment for what amounts to a year while waiting for the courts to rule on something they likely will not rule on in time for the election? If your goal is messaging to the electorate the message I would get from that is there wasn't anything that important to impeach about because you could afford to wait a year. Second, regardless of the evidence Republican senators aren't going to vote to convict so 'exonerating' him a month before the election seems like a bad idea.

Hey now, why should Capone get the credit? Russian mob has finally accomplished what the Italians and Jews of the 1930s-1960s could never do. State capture baby!
