i dont do that either, i just think its a bit too much to get all bent out of shape and try to force someone to change to the right so you can fly by. especially when that person youre trying to push is actually passing cars. just because it isnt as fast as you want doesnt make them in the wrong.

i had a guy literally hold up his hands in the shape of "6-5" when i was passing a semi behind him. he laid on the brakes on a turn going downhill to slow everyone down to 60 to make his point. i almost rear ended him, the prick. but i didnt flip him off, yell at him and follow him to his house and shoot him with toothpicks either.

Yeah, that'll irk me as well. If someone is passing, albeit more slowly than I'm driving, I'll never tailgate them. Now, if they don't then change to the right-hand lane after passing and when it's safe to do so, that's when I'll flash my lights to politely remind them I'm back there.

Edit: It's somewhat sad that this type of behavior has become the norm, and that when I come across someone who passes left/cruises right, it's a refreshing change of pace. I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who get pissed after being passed simply, so it seems, because they've been passed. If I'm driving faster than you and/or passing you, I'm not attempting to call your manhood into question, random sir. Thank you.

While I agree that the left lane should be used only for passing, if I'm in the left lane at 70, passing the cars in the center lane...I'm NOT gonna move over into that lane just for those who want to drive faster than me...until I can do so without having to slow down myself. Once I pass the line of cars who are slower than me, yes, I'll move over and let your impatient ass by, but not until then.

If you brake-check me, I'll definitely drop a dime and call the CHP on you for aggressive driving...and, with a bit of luck, I'll see you on the side of the road participating in the "Autograph Exchange Program."

People who brake-check are the ones who are more likely to cause accidents. Those who drive slow in the fast lane may be in the wrong...but it's the morons who insist on driving unsafely to get by them are the ones who may cause the accident, not the slow poke...

here in Kahleeforneeya, you may indeed get a ticket for "Impeding the Flow of Traffic" for driving the posted limit, but if you cause an accident by brake checking, odds are, you'll get a visit to the local cross-bars hotel for negligent driving or worse.

I agree with this too. And I can recognize that the slower car in front of me is in the left lane to pass and I will be patient for them to finish their pass, and I don't expect them to drive any faster. However, once that window opens up to get over, you are obligated to (legally, in illinois)

It's not uncommon for me to be going 5-10 over the speed limit, be actively passing cars the whole time, only to have some asswad in a lifted pickup overtake me by about 20 mph and ride my rear. I don't move over because a) I'm actively passing people and b) I have no legal obligation to. When I'm done passing people I will always stay in the left lane if I'm being tailed by a douche. In fact, since I know where all the Highway Patrol like to sit I will sometimes speed up so when the jerk passes me on the right he's going about 40 over the speed limit (since they ALWAYS speed up more than they need to) and the HP tags 'em. Had some good laughs that way.

Ugh, I know exactly how you feel OP.

Almost my entire drive between Columbus and Toledo is an aggravating experience on the days I meet the most mind-numbed drivers. A large portion of my trip is on a 4-lane highway (2 each direction). I cannot possibly count the number of times I've been stuck where two cars are going the exact same speed, in both lanes. Leaving no ability to pass either of them. Or someone is traveling on an open stretch in the left lane, and I really really don't like passing on the right so I try and keep behind on their left but rarely do they ever get the clue that... wait I shouldn't just be sitting here in the left lane in open traffic. huh, imagine that.

It's not reserved fro the 4-lane roads either, but that's where it is the worse because as soon as you get assholes in both lanes, I tend to start imagining what it would be like if I could immediately turn into a monster truck and just roll over the idiots. The day tends to get ruined as soon as trucks get into the picture, because people love to pass them in the left lane, going slower than the speed limit. And there are a line of trucks in the right lane so now a huge line of cars is just waiting for one or two slow assholes to finally get the chance to pull over. And oh wait what? These people are now going close to the same speed as the trucks and sticking in the left lane.

jerk, just get over when you have a good chance to. you don't need to speed up your pass, but when you are done, jsut get over. How do you know the guy doesn't have his preggo wife or dying father in the car?

Wouldn't be "insane" amounts of traffic if everybody was maintaining a proper rate of speed. Irregularity in speed is what causes traffic. For the same reason that the slow guy in the left lane causes traffic, the fast guy trying to slam his way through causes traffic. Sure, the slower guy caused him to slow down, generating traffic. But if he was going a proper rate of speed in the first place, he wouldn't NEED to slow down.

I don't understand why this is so hard of a concept to grasp. 'slower traffic stay to the right'. If you're going slower then I am you need to move over so I can pass you. Simple. In fact, in normal conditions the only times you should be in the left lane is when you are passing someone or moving over to pass an emergency vehicle stopped in the breakdown lane.

its not "going slower than you are" its going slower than normal traffic. if im passing a group of cars and you think i should be doing it faster, fuck you. ill get over when im past the cars im passing. and if you tailgate, it may take a few seconds longer.

Alternatively, if slower car got out of fast lane, slower car could maintain his speed, everybody who wants to drive fast can drive fast, and everybody's happy.
