bullshit. the "slower traffic stay to the right" is still bound by speed limits, since if you go faster than the limit you are speeding, which is illegal. dumbass. all you fuckers that think its ok to tailgate someone thats doing this, youre dumbasses too. same with the dicktanks that cut them off and brake check. i generally sit in the middle lane to avoid the lane jockeys that feel the need to swerve back and forth every exit to avoid that person going 1.5 mph slower than them, and i get a good view of the asshats trying to get people in the "passing lane" (which doesnt legally exist here in az) to go faster, even tho they are doing 75 in a 65. honking, yelling and all kinds of really stupid shit too. relax. the freeways here are 6 damn lanes wide, go around them, you self important prick.

another moron has entered the thread...

I don't understand why this is so hard of a concept to grasp. 'slower traffic stay to the right'. If you're going slower then I am you need to move over so I can pass you. Simple. In fact, in normal conditions the only times you should be in the left lane is when you are passing someone or moving over to pass an emergency vehicle stopped in the breakdown lane.

its not "going slower than you are" its going slower than normal traffic. if im passing a group of cars and you think i should be doing it faster, fuck you. ill get over when im past the cars im passing. and if you tailgate, it may take a few seconds longer.

Thanks for reading my post but not actually understanding what I wrote. If you are in the left lane and passing someone that's fine.

im pretty sure i grasped what you typed... but regardless, im not arguing over that lol. if it was fine, then people wouldnt be honking, flashing lights, tailgating and flipping these people off still.

Get the fuck over, you imbeciles. You're endangering the lives of everyone around you by being the catalyst for an accident. If you can't get that through your head, then you seriously need help.

The people who tailgate and flash their lights are no better than someone doing the speed limit in the left lane. Both parties are trying to "police traffic", as you put it.

Actually, in most states, it's against the law to drive in the left lane unless you are actively passing someone.

In most states it's also against the law to pass on the right, dumbass.
It's not illegal to pass on the right in most states. In fact, it's not illegal to pass on the right in any state that I'm aware of. What is illegal is passing on the shoulder or non-paved sections.

Texas. There are a few instances where it's legal, but for the most part, not. I can't be bothered to do a state by state check.
Wrong. Page 6-3.

These threads confuse the fuck out of say. Say the speed limit is 60mph and you're traveling at 70mph while the flow of traffic is 75mph. Do you speed up to the flow of traffic even though it's way over the speed limit? What if you get ticketed? It's like a Catch-22.

The best place to figure that out is in one of the right hand lanes.

Wrong. Page 6-3.

Oh yeah? Texas transportation code § 545.057
§ 545.057. PASSING TO THE RIGHT. (a) An operator may pass
to the right of another vehicle only if conditions permit safely
passing to the right and:
(1) the vehicle being passed is making or about to make
a left turn; and

(2) the operator is:
(A) on a highway having unobstructed pavement not
occupied by parked vehicles and sufficient width for two or more
lines of moving vehicles in each direction; or
(B) on a one-way street or on a roadway having
traffic restricted to one direction of movement and the roadway is
free from obstructions and wide enough for two or more lines of
moving vehicles.
It does strike me as odd that the driver's license handbook appears to be at odds with it, though.

1. If you are driving and are constantly getting passed on the right side of your car, GET THE FUCK OVER!
2. If you are driving in the left lane and all of a sudden there is a line of cars on your bumper, GET THE FUCK OVER!
2.1 If you are driving in the left lane and all of a sudden there is a line of cars on your bumper, BUT you are passing cars to the right of you, it is okay to stay in the left lane with people on your bumper until you have passed all of the cars in the right lane, but once you have passed all cars to the right of you, GET THE FUCK OVER!

You morons who do not know these rules and don't follow them, no need to thank me, as this is a public service announcement.

Well said. WELL SAID

What does being in the left lane accomplish? Doing it just because you can isn't really a good reason if it's causing traffic to jam up and tick a bunch of people off. Let's review:

Reasons NOT to move over:
1. "I paid for it and I'll drive where I want."
2. "I'm the leader and everyone else needs to drive the same speed as me."
3. "You're not the boss of me."

Reasons TO move over:
1. Traffic flow improves.
2. Fewer lane changes. (Just you changing lanes vs. everyone behind you changing lanes)
3. Less personal stress as you are no longer worried about cars on your bumper.

If you choose to go slower to help the environment or to be safer that's FANTASTIC, simply mover over to the right and get on with your life.

No, a flash of the lights is a courtesy to let the driver ahead of you know you are planning on overtaking them. If you take it like someone is starting a fight with you then you shouldn't be on the road.

to the other person above...I don't see it often that a driver is tailgating someone that is simply a member in a long string of traffic and flashing their lights at the same time.

a judge in traffic school told me that you should speed up to match traffic, otherwise youre a hazard. i asked him if he would pay the ticket if stopped, and he said that if traffic is all going the same speed the chances of getting stopped are very low. he didnt say he would pay it tho.

Actually, it's against the law to drive in the left lane. The left lane is a passing lane. If you're not passing someone, you need to be in the right lane. If you're driving slower than the speed limit, you need to be in the right-most lane on roads that are more than 2 lanes.

Thank you for the 2.1 inclusion, as it's the part of logic that generally escapes irritated drivers. Even though I myself don't speed, I completely support your PSA because of it.

I support this message. Please stop driving in the middle/left lanes at ten below the speed limit =\

why not ask him to pull over people speeding? It's illegal and puts other people at risk. Me driving the speed limit is SAFE and puts nobody at risk. I drive the speed limit no matter what lane I'm in. The fast lane doesn't magically have a higher speed limit. I don't get how breaking the law is okay when it suits the person doing it. breaking a law is breaking a law, there should be no argument. if you guys want to break the law, that's fine. I'm not going to police traffic, but if I end up in the "fast" lane due to traffic I'm not going 1mph over 65, deal with it.

that is where you are wrong, it does put others at risk when you are going the speed limit in the fast lane and force everyone behind you to pass you on the right side because you think you should be policing the road.

another moron here.

Speeding is very rarely the cause of accidents.

But speeding exacerbates the severity of injuries in accidents caused for other reasons.
