Actually, in most states, it's against the law to drive in the left lane unless you are actively passing someone.

And it's against the law to break check them as you suggested earlier.

Situation: flow of traffic in the fast lane is 80 mph. I am doing 80 mph and prefer to have a few car lengths between me and the bumper in front of me. You can't stand to see 4 car lenghts in front of me so you pass and get on the bumper of the guy in front of me. You are doing 80 on his bumper and I am doing 80 with a margin of safety.

Where I live, if I moved to the left or right I would either be in a ditch or oncoming traffic. And... I never said that I sit in the left lane. When in major cities I prefer the middle or right (if exiting soon).

People are just oblivious when driving. 2 or 3 cars can pass them on the right and they don't even realize it.
Its pretty rare I come across someone who simply refuses to get over, they usually do eventually but it's still annoying as hell.

you are one of the morons referred to in the OP. hopefully you gain some knowledge from this thread.

Maybe we can come up with a grand unified theory of idiocy? The "I'll drive exactly the speed limit in the left lane and every one else be damned" types may also be the people that spread themselves across an entire escalator so people can't get by them, spread across an entire sidewalk or hallway oblivious to others that may want to get by them, wait until they are at the counter paying to dig through their pockets/purse for a couple of pennies. The possibilities are endless.

You may want to add the NASCAR driver that weaves through traffic thinking he is Jeff Gordon's in-bred cousin. After almost causing ten wrecks, he still winds up a couple cars in front of you at the next exit.

edit: also add the dipshit that tailgates and looks agitated when you have absolutely no options to move over.

If people like you weren't camping out in the left lane he wouldn't have to weave through the traffic. Why do you really care where and when he ends up? I don't know what race car driver said it but I saw a quote from one that said that for highway driving "If no one notices me or cares that I am there then I am driving correctly". Camping out in the left lane is every bit as aggressive as weaving in and out of lanes trying to get around the left lane camper.

If you are replying about a one lane road why are you posting in this thread?

Stop trolling.

How can you create 4 car lengths between you and a car who pulls in front of you w/o slowing down?

How could you get passed on right if you are passing cars on your right? If the guy in front of you in your example passes you, you were not going fast enough.

Yes, there's a very simple rule to follow :

If the lane to the right of you is travelling at the same speed as you, or faster, MOVE TO THE RIGHT. It's very easy to follow and remember :p

I am waiting for the excuse:
"But I see a semi getting on to the highway 2 miles ahead so I had better stay in the fast lane and go 70 while cars pile up behind me."
as this happens to me almost every day on the drive home

I love these threads. What the OP fails to mention is that the speed limit in the area was likely 65, and the car in the passing lane was already doing 72, while the OP was doing 85.

One of the few exceptions where rear-ending someone is actually not the fault of said driver. Thanks, you'd be buying me a new car and paying my medical bills.

great assumption on the speeds that everybody was going, you should play the lottery since you are a psychic! oh wait, you are wrong so nevermind!

regardless of the speed limit and the speeds you are going ... the rules in the OP apply.

if you are going 90 in the left most lane, and are constantly getting passed by people going 95 - 100 on the right of you, GET THE FUCK OVER!

if you are going 90 in the left lane and you have a line of cars on your ass, GET THE FUCK OVER!

apparently it IS hard to follow and remember, as seen from a few of the people posting in this thread, and the dozens of people i see breaking the rules daily :p

Why would you be in the left lane if speeders piss you off? Obviously you aren't a speeder, yet you go into the lane of choice for speeding. Why should you be surprised when people get pissed off at you for being a selfish asshole driver?

And what you're failing to mention is that the left lane on 95 travels at 80+mph regularly. There are 4 lanes to accomodate the speed you wish to drive.

The fact is, anyone can cause an accidient whether you're driving the speed limit or speeding. The finger can be pointed at both parties. The slower cars in the left lane will cuase other drivers to make manuvers that can cause accidents. The faster cars will cause accidents by making these manuvers. For the sake of everybody, pick a lane that is traveling at the speed you're comfortable with and show a little road etiquette.

bullshit. the "slower traffic stay to the right" is still bound by speed limits, since if you go faster than the limit you are speeding, which is illegal. dumbass. all you fuckers that think its ok to tailgate someone thats doing this, youre dumbasses too. same with the dicktanks that cut them off and brake check. i generally sit in the middle lane to avoid the lane jockeys that feel the need to swerve back and forth every exit to avoid that person going 1.5 mph slower than them, and i get a good view of the asshats trying to get people in the "passing lane" (which doesnt legally exist here in az) to go faster, even tho they are doing 75 in a 65. honking, yelling and all kinds of really stupid shit too. relax. the freeways here are 6 damn lanes wide, go around them, you self important prick.

aaah, found it...

" 28-721. Driving on right side of roadway; exceptions

A. On all roadways of sufficient width, a person shall drive a vehicle on the right half of the roadway except as follows:

1. When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing the movement.

2. When the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic while under construction or repair.

3. On a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic under the rules applicable on the roadway.

4. On a roadway designated and signposted for one-way traffic.

B. On all roadways, a person driving a vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall drive the vehicle in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway. "

im pretty sure the freeway counts as a "one way traffic" situation. ive argued the "normal speed" thing with a judge (not in court, just over a beer) part too. he told me that they changed it from "speed limit" to that to accommodate the fact that traffic may be going slower or faster, depending on traffic conditions and congestion. so, if traffic is doing 95 and youre overtaking the person to the right of you, tell the assplank behind you trying to do 110 to suck lint, bitch.
