I don't have any problems with cops individually but I dislike intensely the methods they are teaching them to use these days to deal with the public.

I like cops that fight crime.

Cops that hide in police cars just writing speeding/revenue tickets can suck my left nut though

while most cops are just in it because it's a good deal for flunkies, some are extremely helpful and do the job right.

I think we need a statistic on age here as well. I would wager that at least 90% of those who said they hate cops are under the age of 21.

Most are pretty cool but I remember when going to school I met a few up and coming cops and dear lord they only were in it for the power and prestige. I would say most cops are good but as with everything (religion, politics etc) it is the 5% of bad apples that ruin everything.

I've worked for a county sheriff's IT department and it was a large dose of being around cops all day, every day.

By far the majority are very nice people, just doing their job and trying to help in the process.

There are a smaller amount of them that are on ego trips as well of course, but for the most part, they just people at work doing their job.

Now I've had friends when I was younger that said they hate all cops and any and every time there was any interaciton with one, they right from the start give them shit and bust their balls and then go "see how they are all on power trips" when the cop would put them in their place.

Just like myself working in IT, if someone starts screaming for the get go and giving me shit, I'm gonna give them shit right back and drag my feet to help them out as well.

Some people just have a blind hate of cops for no real reason at all.

These are probably the same kind of people that say things like "down with the man" or "Wal-Mart is evil" and things of that nature.

Oh really?
most people who hate cops hate them for doing their job correctly and well.

Wrong.

you have now elected to carry the burden of proof.

So let me get this straight...
1. Make shit up
2. Someone points out that you're making shit up
3. They have to prove that you're making shit up

If you had any basis for saying what you said, you'd have posted it. Proving you wrong would be a waste of his time.

several months ago the baby passed out from an extensive crying fit in which she couldn't catch her breath. my wife called 911. the cops arrived literally in less than 30 seconds. they made sure everything was ok but suggested they call the paramedics just to be sure. the baby had woken up pretty much right after she passed out but everyone was very understanding and showed only concern for the welfare of the baby.

for that kind of service, i don't care if you're an ahole when you stop me for speeding.

I like them overall (and I live in a country - India - known for a corrupt law & order system). Heard of a few incidents where friends & family had to deal with assholes but I've had some pretty good experiences. But I do kinda fear them because in this country, cops generally tend to beat the shit out of you first and ask questions later.

The other country I've lived in (Saudi Arabia), I hate those motherfuckers. Racist scummy assholes, all of 'em. Yes, that is a blanket statement and it's true.

It wasn't so much the caught doing something wrong part, but the treatment in said cases. Like the first time I got pulled over, the cop waited inside his car for 30 minutes. I had never been pulled over so I wasn't sure what was going on, so I got out of my car and he started to flip out. Plus, he pulled me over by speeding down the street at 80mph until he caught up to me without his flashing lights on (in the dark). Then he turned them on after tailgating me and causing me to speed up. When he questioned me he asked why I sped up and said having someone on my ass isn't a valid reason. What a bunch of lame shit that was.

In fact, I think all of my experience with cops is from speeding. Cops that give speeding tickets are angry.

Actually, I think you have to prove your stance first :p.

the challenger does. i can then refute.

err no.

you made a statement. he called you on it. it is up to you to prove what you said. it is not up to him to prove you wrong.

While I'm not out the lambaste you, look at this scenario:

Me: Hey Mosh, the sky is green.
Mosh: No, it isn't, it's blue.
Me: Nuh-uh, I demand proof!

(Okay, maybe that wasn't very good... maybe if I was an underground cave dweller...)

Why should I have to expect proof when I made the initial conjecture (note that the word conjecture is very proper in this use as it means something that is thought to be true but not necessarily proven) and now my statement has come under scrutiny. A statement meant to be fact should have sources to back it up so if anyone goes, "well, I've heard otherwise," you can just say, "read the link, bozo."

It's funny, I remember having this very same conversation with dmccowen.

I hate it when cops think they are above the law themselves. I was threatened to be arrested and charged with a number of laws because I knew and exercised my rights. Happened twice to me and same attitude. Not all cops are like that of course but a few are.

Absolute favorite was when I refused to let an officer search my car at a license checkpoint. I informed him that I would not submit to a search without a warrant and they all went ape shit. I could have let him and went about my business, but it was a principal thing. I don't trust them at all. I'll be respect full, but thats about it.

Most cops are cool. I've met some great cops over the years and I've met some real assholes, but on the whole, considering the circumstances I've met them in, most have been pretty good.
