So what you're saying is you don't like random searches and "police officers" with automatic rifles patrolling our cities?Originally posted by: daniel1113
I don't hate individual cops. Rather, I hate what police protection has become in this country, especially with regard to the amount of power afforded to these individuals in the guise of public safety.

Everybody hates the police....until you need them.
So "Operation Torch" is really an NYC initiative to prepare officers for the event of a terrorist robbing the subway with a automatic rifle?Originally posted by: mugs

Being unprepared works a lot better

Cops have a tough job, and so many of them deserve respect.

Cops have been pretty good to me. I have accidentally broken a handful of laws (such as being in a park after curfew, speeding, etc) and the cops have always been really polite and have not given me a ticket or even a warning.
I caused a wreck once (ran a stop sign) and they cop was very nice. He only gave me a ticket for running a stop sign and offered to give me a ride if I needed it.
But one time, I was driving out of state. I was in a construction zone (40mph), but I was going 30mph due to traffic. A state police car pulled me over right after the construction ended and gave me a ticket for going 50mph in a 40mph. That pissed me off a lot. Plus he a was an ass the whole time he was talking to me.

Nobody deserves respect until they earn it.

in my own, limited personal experience... they never seem to be around when they're needed, but they're always there when I'm doing something stupid (like 37 in a 35... got pulled over for that a couple months ago).
