Don't know which 2nd page you are referring to, but the brochures have FR all over them, which isn't a midship.

I do like the part where it says:

"Just in case, rear seat can seat two adults."


? Really? With one lying on top of the other?

As a genesis coupe owner, I do like the front end of my 2010 over the 2013 though I wish I had the newer engine :D

That being said, the gencoupe is ~3300lbs...not exactly light. The ft86 should definitely be a fun car. Sure it may be a little down on power and a bit more down on torque, but it is significantly lighter, which will be huge.

Wasn't a fan of the RX-8 but it was a great handling car, albeit slow. 237hp, 2888lbs, 6MT, and mid 20Ks. Great handling, decent ride, decent space, and comfortable interior.

Not sure how this car really moves the envelope beyond being cheaper. 200hp, 2660lbs, 6MT, and hopefully low 20Ks. Great handling, hopefully not too choppy a ride, no space, less comfortable interior, and slower.

As a former S2000 owner nearly 8 years ago, this new car doesn't get me excited.

The picture doesn't show the cutouts in the front seats to make room for rear passenger legs. I'm guessing in those pics the front seats are all the way back too.

i'm just the opposite. I'm a former s2000 owner also.. had a 2000 and then a 2002 (so glad they got rid of the plastic window) . When i first saw the s2000, i thought it was the ugliest car i've seen, but once i test drove one (i think i was having my 2000 civic si in for an oil change) i immediately fell in love with it.


I'm excited about this car, but i won't pass judgement until i drive it.. hopefully i get that same feeling from when i first drove the s2000.

I wonder if this logic had anything to do with the power -- it'll be a scion and reasonably priced, from a manufacture that has a lot of trust in the US (from the average person), and if it had a zillion horsepower or the capability of going quickly at the drop of your pinky toe, then soon after it released we'd have story after story of people veering into other cars when they take off at a set of lights or crashing it into trees because they thought turning off traction control turned the fun on.

Might be fun to drive. Let's just hope it stays away from the rice.

E: Just realized, this will be on of the few cars that when the 17 year old adds a park bench sized spoiler, the car will actually benefit from it. :awe:

I was excited as well when news first broke, but it's been dropping since. Honestly it probably comes down to the power and believe me, as a long time Honda/Acura guy, all-out power is not the most important thing to me.

You're making a "performance" car that isn't going to be practical for more than 2 people, is going to be pretty stiff and noisy. All fine and good - but then give it enough oomph to be more than a bit faster than the anemic Civic Si and blown away by other hot hatches.

No matter how well you handle, decent handling cars with more power will generally be faster on the track. I can see this car taking Turn 6 at Laguna and then just laboring up the hill while other cars whiz on by. The S2000 was *barely* adequate here.

Truthfully, I'm probably too old for this car and it's not targeted at me anyway. If I was 22 again, I'd be on this like * on rice.

I too am too old for this thing, but I'm really glad they're making it. It's been quite a while since Japan introduced a new, true sports car at a mortal price point.

Has there been any word on pricing at all? Low 20s I could stomach.. but if its mid to high 20s, I'd rather get a 370Z.

Hmm where to start, the rear seat guys head is in the rear window, his toes are under the guys seat, and has maybe 1/2" of knee room. The front seat looks all the way forward, probably hitting his knees on the lower side of the dash.

Cost would obviously factor in here. If it is in the same price range as a Mustang, then as a second car, yes, I would choose the Toyota, probably the Subaru actually. Two main reasons, I have more confidence in a car built by Toyota and Subaru not falling apart in a few years than I do Ford. 2, it is much easier to add HP than it is to lose weight and modify vehicle dynamics (center of gravity, coefficient of drag, etc). Overall, I bet the GT 86 will be more enjoyable to drive at everday speeds than the Mustang would even without a HP boost to the 86.

Yes. I want this car badly...well after I drive it of course...but from everything that I read...this is the exact car I've been looking for. Unfortunately I likely won't be in the market for a car for a couple of years...
