Overall, that was just me bitching about never being promoted. But I finally was...after losing 3 straight.

yeah it seems like the system takes a batch of 10 or 15 matches, compares how you did, then moves you based on that. that's why you see people getting promoted after losing a bunch in a row, etc...

Oh the horror of finding 8 battle.net players with attention spans long enough to sit in the lobby for the entire 20 second countdown...

Hmm I got Zealot rushed twice last night, and I guess I can see why Blizzard nerfed their build time. But Zealot build time doesn't truly seem to be the problem... the problem is Chrono Boosting! While it takes a player with at least some micro skill to use it properly... by keeping it on CD, the player can pump out tons of units quickly. While I can do the same with a Reactor as Terran, the Reactor takes 50 seconds to build. In that time, I could've built two Marines, and sometimes... that time has been the difference between life or death in a rush :p.

Heh, Glitch... I'm not too great of a player, but I've been trying to drill some concepts into my friend's head. Too often he ignores interesting Zerg units like the Infestor that could be extremely helpful against their large waves... and usually doesn't have nearly enough fighting units to really help in a fight. The majority of the units that held off that huge Zealot wave in the beginning were my units (MM of course).

Although... I think we would've won that match if I wasn't such an e-weenie and actually attacked them back after they attacked me. While watching the replay, I saw them build nearly nothing for a minute or so and it was perfect for a strike.

jordan or vern?

both, but mostly Vern. Jordan is at least trying new things and is playing as zerg so he is slowly learning. But neither of them know how to defend if they aren't playing Terran and can wall off.

Vern does the same thing every game, turtle into battlecruisers and then sends them to help after the game is 70% over and then talks about his "badass" army. Makes me want to punch the screen when the entire game I'm harassing with banshee's or muta's while he just sits there. The best part was when he switched to Protoss, and did the same thing! Just this time he made carriers.

The best are when he asks "want me to rush?" and we are 10+min into the game...

I wouldn't mind any of this if it wasn't for the fact that they just want to jump into pvp and we lose 3 in a row and only win because the other team just turtled after I took map control. It's gotten to the point that I make them do VScpu and I just go random, and we still almost lose against the "Hard" AI... and it's not even hard.

I've also started going zerg just to show Jordan what he is doing wrong, he has been stuck in the SC1 mentality of make zerglings then rush! but then he gets attacked and dies if I cant save him. Also zerg are pretty damn fun to play, banelings are so fun to throw at MM balls and watch them melt.

But what I want to do is some 1v1's to show them how slow they actually are but vern isn't too keen on that idea.

Gah, my losses seem to come in bunches. I lost 6 in a row early on, but played very well and managed to get into Diamond, and continued winning... Then went 2-9 yesterday (7 straight losses).

That Teamliquid post in the OP hits the nail on the head. I kept thinking "just one more win," and as a result lost focus trying to quickly end games.

Im like second in my division and I still havent moved up yet -_-

A few more wins and you'll be promoted - the system is testing you :).

so im new to the sc2 posting on AT, since teamliquid is blocked at work.

I'm a diamond player 1's and plat 2's3's4's. i'm looking for a solid 3's teammate, preferably zerg.

if you are interested either post or pm me. i havnt had too much time to play the last month, still playing wow (trying to down lk), and moving/gf. but school has started for her, and im done moving, and so i have a protoss friend, and we'd like to hit diamond in 3's. also if you are really into the game and like to talk strategies/theroycraft let me know. we can have a serious discussion whenver you like. i'm on gmail all day.

So I have a newbie question. How do you micro enough to do something like keeping your scout from dying to the enemy workers while still building up your base?

Or micro manage a harass force and keep your base going?

As soon as my attention is off my harassment force, it dies instantly.

Use Shift queueing. So let's say you need to build a Gateway as your scout is in their base. You hold shift and right click around in a big circle, then build your Gateway.

Another way is if you need to macro at your base, just send your scout worker away from danger. So when you have nothing to macro, use your scout to harass their workers; when you have something to macro, pull the scout away from their workers then macro. Rinse repeat until the opponent gets out a combat unit.

Ahh, that makes sense. Watching some of the big league replays, the harassment force looks as if it gets all the attention as they are able to focus fire and run and instantly turn back once the defenders retreat. Then I take a look at their base and they are managing their workers and building up their base at the same time and I'm sitting there like... wtf?!?

How deep can you go with shift queuing? Queuing in a scout worker in a circle makes sense because they most likely won't have a combat unit at that point and you aren't trying to kill anything but I still don't get how to harass with combat units while maintaining the base. I just need more experience.

Deep enough I guess. I've queued 4 or 5 buildings, don't think more than that is necessary.

Really, really deep.

You can shift-queue to attack units, blink, move tanks then siege/unsiege, cloak once you get to a destination. Basically you can do a lot of stuff.

do you guys build the worker first or send the 6 existing workers to mine first?

Send the 6 existing workers to mine. The difference between the two is most likely very negligible and can also depend on how fast you can select your CC/Nexus/Hatch and click 'S', 'E' or 'D'.

Wow, this is frustrating. I haven't been able to play since last week and apparently that much time degrades execution of very basic things.

I just lost 4 games where they were all using terrible strategies and I'm clearly winning and then I forget to do something basic and instantly lose.

Game 1: My scout is alive for a long time and when it eventually dies he rushes DT. I am way ahead in economy, have a roach force to defend small pushes, and have spotting to see when I need to build more units. I forgot to hold position on my ramp and build an overseer in my base, GG.

Game 2: I'm way ahead in economy and am pumping drones because I have spotting in the middle of a long rush distance map and can safely build units when I see him attacking. I scouted my base earlier for proxy but apparently I *barely* missed a proxy pylon going down and he warps in units when I have nothing and no larva, GG.

Game 3: 4 player map ZvZ and I go 14 pool while he's going 6 pool spine rush. This should be an instant win for me as we had cross position spawns and 6 pooling on a 4 player map is pretty dumb. I forget to build a queen when my pool finishes and didn't notice until I go, "WTF, where's my queen? Should be out by now." GG.

Game 4: ZvP he tries to push out with zealots and fails to block his ramp. I do a speedling run by and kill a ton of probes which is usually an instant win for me. He rushes stargate and I lose to 1 VR because I forgot to build a second queen. (I built a second queen in both game 1 and 2 for this exact reason but didn't this game for no reason.)

Bah.
