We know Verizon sucks when it comes to that. CDMA is what's hampering the fast updates even more so. Sprint and Google have a special connection so I'm sure that helps them get faster updates than with Verizon since they are CDMA as well. CDMA carriers have to digitally sign updates so it's all up to Verizon and Sprint now, not Google.

That's why you root :)

what is it about CDMA that makes the update process harder? the basement devs seem to have figured it out

It's not necessarily "harder"

What's happening is the "basement devs" are taking CDMA code packages from official releases (or leaked ones), and then integrating them into their ROMs.

Google/Samsung/Verizon might actually be altering the CDMA code packages, but I don't know for sure. Regardless, Verizon is notorious for stability/performance testing (even when the released product ends up failing miserably, somehow it was put through its paces inside Verizon HQ).

While it doesn't have any impact afaik, CDMA is also no longer in AOSP. Developers have grabbed it and done what they could, but it's not organic to the project anymore (it was for only a very brief time, regardless).

Is it just me or is the Facebook app utter crap on your gnex too? I got the update & the app is still laggy as hell.

It always has been a laggy, bug ridden piece of crap. Hasn't changed on the Droid 1, T-Bolt, Nexus, and Tab 8.9. Facebook's devs are a bunch of clueless monkeys.

So... I've been having an awful, awful issue with my data connection. I have signal, but my data speeds are only about 50-175 KB/s. I can't seem to break that threshold. I've tried stock radios, hybrids, leaked OTA radios. I've tried different ROMs, kernels, etc...

I tried toggling my mobile data off then on, and it bumped my speeds up to 1.3 MB/s, but a followup test resulted in the same 50-175 KB/s. This is freaking awful.

I don't know what to do when it comes to this. I don't have 4G in my area, and I don't think I can live with a phone that only gets me that much speed. I tested it next to my mother's iPhone 4S, and her's pulled in a mean 1.9 MB/s while I was still rocking a solid 176 KB/s..

Does anyone have ANY idea on what I should do? I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow and see if they can help me at all. Hopefully, I can weasel my way into getting a newer Nexus seeing as how I don't think this one is repairable. :(

Take it to the store and do a speed test in front of the managers eyes, then do a speed test with a similar phone comparison.

The problem with that is I'm on an employee account so I have to have their special team help me. I mean I will more than likely be able to get a new phone out of the ordeal, but I still have to do it via telephone. >_<

I'm waiting for my 4th Galaxy Nexus to arrive. The last two I bought had issues with purple screen tint at lower brightness levels.

After having two bad phones in a row, I'm a bit worried about the issue now. Is this more common than I thought or something people just live with or have I just gotten unlucky?

I kind of see a purplish gray tint when I turn the brightness all the way down. Not sure if it's because of your post or not. At 30% (where I usually keep it indoors), white looks white.

The purple tinting seems to only affect dark grey colors. Like the system menus tend to start looking purplish.

I think my first Galaxy Nexus didn't have this problem, but the last two I got seemed to have it pretty bad.

Lots of rumblings from Google this month. 4.0.4 updates for the GSM GNex, Nexus S & 4G, Google Drive, US GSM Nexus for sale direct, etc. Verizon GNex still plodding along with 4.0.2.

Yes, I'm talking about kilobits. It's freaking pitiful speed. They're sending me another sim card to see if that is the issue. We'll find out tomorrow. Incidentally, I apparently have absolutely no warranty on this phone since it was previously activated on another account and since I purchased it and put it on my account, I am out of the warranty so I can't even get a refurb replacement. :l

Also, you're in Pittsburgh? You lucky. I'm in Hermitage (about an hour north). I have no 4Gs, but you have all the 4Gs. :(

That ignores the larger issue of why these updates are so slow with Verizon.

Exactly. I finally rooted/rom'd mine, but I didn't want to. I bought this phone hoping to get out of the rom game I played with the Dorid 1, but still wanted the pure Android experience. I was counting on timely updates for this device. I was patient until the damn Sprint Nexus SHIPPED with 4.0.4

if it's any consolation, a buddy was here last weekend with his LTE nexus, and we compared it with my gsm one on t-mobile and I was getting a good 1-2mbps faster than his LTE speeds, so you're not missing out on much!

Depends where you are and what your signal is. I was sitting at a car wash near my house recently and got this below:

But you can go two miles another way and get 2 megs up/down. So it really varies.

What about a warranty service with Samsung? Standard is 12 months, I think.

I'm not worried about LTE. I'm worried that I'm not receiving anywhere close to any other VZW phone I've come in contact with. This phone is easily faulty, but I can't do anything about it so it seems.

I don't know. I'm going to call Verizon again tomorrow after I receive that SIM just to let them know it didn't work, and then I'll make up something saying that I received it as a gift and they can say OH OK here's a new phone for you. I hate being on an employee account and receiving employee account technicians.. :l

I'm going to call Samsung tomorrow also and see if I can accomplish anything with them. Though, they might have me send my phone in when I won't be able to do that seeing as how I only have this phone and nothing else to use as a spare. :(

Count me as an unsatisfied customer. I wish I had returned the phone when I had the chance instead of having faith that the signal issues would be fixed through a software update. I'm going to get Verizon the replace the phone, not because I think it will fix the problem but because I know I'll have to get a few warranty replacements before they give me a different device.

It's frustrating because there is a lot to love about the phone but the signal issues are a deal breaker.

What's the matter with your signal? :p I can't believe how bad the signal is on this phone.

I hope Google picks a different partner for the next Nexus. Either Moto or HTC. I don't care. Both usually have amazingly built devices with at least great (HTC) to amazing (Moto) signal/quality.

Wow. I love this phone so much. I don't have any idea why I ever got rid of it. Seriously, I'm never going to another platform so long as Google keeps Android in this direction.

I'm running LiquidSmooth with Franko's latest nightly kernel. This thing is a beast. I just need to get another extended battery for it! :D

I had to revert back to 1.25 Liquid because I couldn't get Wallet working on 1.3. I don't get a secure element error, I get some nonsense about invalid keys. :(

It's driving me nuts.
