Bonus XP has something to with the last time someone has killed that mob I think. It's in there to encourge exploring. I've gotten some crazy bonus XP killing stuff way out of the way of POIs, Hearts, etc.

that could be it as fireflys and the ostrich things are neutral mobs and wont attack you unless you attack them. id guess a much smaller # of people kill them

that's a shame. Moas, deer critters, and mosquitos/fireflies tend to have excellent drops.

this one said that it WAS changed, not if i wanted to or letting me know someone attempted to change it.

I don't even recall there being a link to click on. I went to the GW2 site directly without clicking on anything and I tried to log in and it says my email is not valid or something to that effect. same with the game.

do you share the same email, character name, password, whatever with any other online accounts?

the bulletin that ANet has been sending out states that hackers are basically going through information culled from various other online accounts, and cross-referencing the info with GW2 logins. they then get into an account, change the login, and use the account to spam gold bank emails to various accounts using the in-game mail system.

I've gotten several of these from "pvpbank.com." I just delete them. Of course, now I wonder where they get individual account names...

Is it possibly to add extra character slots? I mean, I don't know if I will use them, but being able to have one of every class would be nice.

So what's everyone's opinion of the game so far? I'm surprisingly not very interested in logging on to play lately. Level 60 so far. Perhaps I'm just burnt with mmo's in general or perhaps I was expecting something revolutionary with GW2.

Just to let everyone know starting at 6:30pm (today) EST I popped a 3day guild buff for +10% Magic find.

We can always build another when this one is done. This is just so you all know

i don't play any other mmos right now, but i may have used the password for another game.

still no word from anyone about getting it fixed...submitted support request at 10:38 AM EST this morning.

Well, was playing this game and had stopped for a week after reaching level 60. I played a bit too much that first week. So 2 days ago I go to log on to my account and find out that it was hacked.

First off, this is a first for me. I do not share passwords or accounts with anyone. I live with my GF who doesn't play that sort of game or even gets on my PC. I used a password, which was the same one for GW1, uniquely. Which means that password was ONLY for my guildwars account and nothing else. Not even similar to anything else. I am a computer programmer and do not do anything that would get a virus/trojan/keylogger on my system. I run avast, malware bytes and occasionally other virus checkers every where to doubly make sure nothing is on my system. I screen everything I download through a separate VMware session on a completely different system that is disconnected from my home network once the item is installed to make sure whatever software I download is perfectly safe. I have nothing pirated on any systems.

Yet somehow, despite all these precautions, my account was hacked. By the large number of these recently, I'm guess it is a compromise on their end. There is almost virtually zero way anyone knows what my password was to guildwars. I really wished their email verification system was working correctly when I was last on, as it was down that first week for many people like many other things in this game. Or at least I wish they had an authenticator, which is what I usually have, for all my games when available.

So I put in a customer service ticket and posted in the official thread about it on their forums. Word is the wait for restored accounts is about 2 weeks. To me this is unacceptable. If this was a subscription based game I would have cancelled specifically over this incident. Their security blunder screwed my account, along with probably many others, and it is going to take them forever to fix because there are literally hundreds of thousands of accounts this happened to in the last week from what I found out.

Fair warning to all. Make sure you have their email notification system turned on AND that you chance the passwords both for the game and your email service.

ouch, 2 weeks....i thought 5 days in Rift was bad...

well, good thing I'm not all that excited about the game and it's not a subscription based game. if 2 weeks is how long it takes, then i'll be well into Torchlight 2 and probably won't even bother with GW2 any more.

Luckily I take game security seriously and that I am using a email just for Guildwars 2, along with Unique passwords of 12+ characters for both the Email and the game, along with an authenticator code through text for my Email.

And haven't even had a single issue. Not even an attempt to change password.... or even an email that attempts a keylogging link scam... I feel unloved.

Never had an issue with being hacked, in Lineage, EQ, WoW, Diablo 3, and now this.

Ruling out issues with the game/devs; and assuming people aren't clicking 'send us your username/password' fishing attempt emails... only brute force is left...right?

My pw's are always letter/number/caps and no caps combinations. Something like gAme72WoOt2l3T, and apparently that works vs guess/brute attempts since I've never had an issue. Good luck if you were hacked, been seeing things like "I reported it a week ago and am still banned".

Pro-tip

Get big bags if you run with Kuz... in like 30 minutes my bags were full twice tonight :awe:

If it was a security comprimse on Anets part, since we do not have authenticators on this game, many more of us shouldve been hacked or close to it.

And yea, a password I use for a different game is : C7yKSdep1Qazz

Nothing like crazy passwords.

I also am starting to realize how much I really am happy with GW2. WoW if I didn't play at least a few hours a day I felt I fell behind.

Here I play maybe 1.5 hours every other day and am doing just fine (almost level 50), especially because of how xp works and the daily bonuses.

Someone was talking about size in guild chat yesterday, and I mentioned it's pretty funny to play an Asuran Guardian because the size of the 2H items are always bigger than me - well, I also have a few skills like Zealot's Defense and Cleansing Flame that make my character jump into mid-air to perform them.

So no one has a clue to why underwater damage is significantly less than out of water spells?

30dam vs 300+ damage on land is just not right. Am i missing something gear wise/stat wise that would make it vary that much? I'm using a trident close to same level.

A) Are you in a zone in which your level is reduced to a low amount causing damage to be that low?

B) If not, and the damage you do is doing enough damage to hurt the enemies to death w/o too much issue, then its probable that underwater monsters health is much lower than normal

C) If not either, may want to look in on your abilities to make sure they are not weak as I have not paid attention to the numbers underwater, yet I do damage just fine, and things die.

Mount Maelstrom is easily the best zone I've been through so far. Lots of varied terrain and some pseudo-hidden things that aren't PoIs or Vistas actually really got me into exploring. Plus the events there are pretty cool (profitable, engaging, not hugely time consuming) and the zone still isn't real crowded on my server, I'm hoping the other 'late game' zones show the same promise.

if they got info for 11000 accounts, thats a lot to go through. they aren't going to get to all of them at once.

Possibly, but I would have heard more about it if it was more widespread than it has been. I feel there has been a lot of phising attempts and info collected earlier that people didnt realize that their info was recorded until just then, when it became useful.

Also if they changed the email assigned too, it requries access to the email to change, since they need a confirmation response from that email.

So to hack GW2 and change the email connected with it, one would have to have had both hacked.

LOL, I use a minimum of 24 randomly generated chars, upper and lower case, with numbers and special chars for all my passwords. As a government worker, I'm used to that sort of password system.

I had a unique one for my GW2 account. Still got hacked. As far as I know, a few HUNDRED THOUSAND accounts have now been hacked. It takes time to go through each account 1 by 1 and clean them out. That is also assuming the compromise at Anet got all the account information and not a partial grab or sell out from an employee at Anet. You do realize all it takes is a greedy and under handed employee at Anet having access to personal info and grabbing little bits at a time to sell to Chinese companies right? With an authenticator that would never matter. If the email verification system had been working for the first week that would probably never happen either. Unless you use the same password for the game as you do for your email, which I don't, as then you would still be screwed.

Which is why I am stating to change your stuff NOW. Or don't follow my advice and watch your account get hacked in the next week or two as they make it to your name on the list.

OMG, they have an official thread that has been filling up massively with people being hacked. GW2 literally had the forums down for the first week at least so there could be zero customer feeding back given through an official channel up until recently. That is why you haven't heard so much about it. I'm specifically telling this to you now that it is very widespread and only getting worse every day.

Want to know how bad? I was told a MINIMUM of 2 weeks before they can even look to restore my account. TWO WHOLE WEEKS at a minimum. It could be longer than that. That is how much backlog they have to go through.
