Welcome to jail!

Cars are the worst possible place to "store" a gun. Cars are stolen or broken into all the time, even with sophisticated alarms.
If you feel the need to carry, carry. At least then you can defend your gun from the crooks.

The Kellermann Study is often cherry picked/misrepresented by the anti-gun lobby as part of their usual fearmongering tactics.

I will say this. The government created the second amendment (the right to bear arms) because they felt the institution of government should not be all empowering and as a side result could not be everywhere to protect everyone. This was seen as a good thing in the era of westward expansion and whatnot.

People ask why have it now. Go take a good look at what happened after hurricane Katrina. The thin veil of civilization was gone and families were getting jacked left and right for basic supplies because the less prepared wanted what they had.

I don't and wouldn't keep a gun in a car. I don't carry one outside of being issued one. I do have one at home.

BTW as a past delivery driver I can say that a hammer is the best car defense you can have. If the person has a gun (and has any skill with the weapon) by the time you try to grab yours you would be dead. However, if the person doesn't have a gun a hammer shot to the head would be enough to make most people stop and find an easier target.

I had a fellow delivery driver get called to a house that ended up to not be there. (People do this all the time, call a pizza to a house that isn?t a real address a block or two from their house and rob the delivery driver. After all it's free pizza and you get some cash.) He was about to drive off when someone grabbed him by his shirt. He grabbed his hammer and smacked the guy in his head and drove away. He was apparently going to fast because he got pulled over about a block down the road. He explained the situation to the cop and the cop walked him back to the where he hammered the guy. He was still laying there in pain. The cop arrested the guy and let my friend go.

Now had he had a gun in that situation he probably would have been in jail for shooting someone who was unarmed.

 I've seen first hand during the Los Angeles Riots after the Rodney King verdict. Guns are a necessity as far as I'm concerned and I will always own them.

I carry a handgun everywhere I go, including work. It is my right.

I never keep it in the glove box though, that is pretty stupid.

Possibly the most sensible comment in the thread. Want to pack? Then get the necessary concealed weapon permit and carry...on your person...leaving one in the glove-box is just stupid. Too hard to get to in a real emergency, too much of a chance of it getting stolen, and cops get REAL freaky when they pull you over and see a handgun when you open your glove-box to get your registration...
Personally, I'm not so paranoid that I find the need to carry, but, in certain parts of the country, maybe I'd think different.

wow...so ignorant

people aren't carrying guns just itching to shoot someone. I just put in my app for concealed carry license Monday but I hope I never have to shoot someone.

I've never shot anyone and I hope I never have to shoot anyone. If someone puts me in a situation where I need to make that decision I will do it without hesitation though.

BTW-I've owned guns for over 14 years now and I've somehow managed to avoid shooting myself or any of my loved ones...must be a fvcking miracle I guess.

But if you own one, that would be completely rational of course..

Reasons for me owning a gun and likely other projectile weapons..

1. paranoia
2. nuclear holocaust
3. protection
4. hunting-->you know, in case food supply is low
5. paranoia
6. skill--->just for the mere fact that I'm a marksmen
7. killing hobos in spare time
8. killing hippies in spare time
9. making swiss cheese
10. In case there is pandamonium like in the case of katrina where it was basically FFA---> Protection.

You forgot Zombies.

I've seen this suggested before and it's terrible advice. You pull a toy gun on someone, you cannot predict their response. If they're hopped up on drugs, they might come at you. Your toy gun isn't going to stop them. It MAY scare them off, but it MAY get you killed too.

If you're going to pull a gun on someone in self defense, it better be loaded, you'd better be ready to take a life, and you'd better be ready to deal with the consequences of your actions.

If you're not comfortable with that, then you shouldn't be carrying a concealed weapon.

a) it seems most anywhere hiding a gun in your car is considered concealed and is illegal without the necessary permit

b) aren't you supposed to alert the cops to the fact that you have one in the vehicle?

Maybe after another 14 years or so you will realize that you don't actually NEED a gun. Oh, wait... you HAVE to have one because your constitution allows it. n/m

*shrug* Well, I don't actually need my emergency supplies... until I need them. Like I mentioned in normal everyday society I don't see the need for one. That can all go out the window in a few hours. You just never know when

the way the 1st two sentences are it sounded like a hammer would be better than a gun.
must have missed or misread the 3rd sentence.
