IMO,

Guns are a bad thing, the only reason to have a gun laden society seems to be fear because everyone else has a gun.

But, I think it's too late to simply ban guns because only the lawless will keep them/hide them from authorities.
If guns were never an issue (of safety) then there would be nearly 0 reason to own one.

I think the reason a lot of people are PRO gun is because they either own them themselves or have friends that own them and feel insulted when people say guns are an idiotic idea.

It is true that guns don't kill people, people kill people but guns make it so stupidly easy to kill it can be done quickly and without any personal danger.
Do you honestly think if the only way to kill someone was to brutally beat them with your fists that the same number of murders would be committed?

I don't.

Guns make murder easier!

Was it everything you hoped it would be?

I've never shot anyone and I hope I never have to shoot anyone. If someone puts me in a situation where I need to make that decision I will do it without hesitation though.

BTW-I've owned guns for over 14 years now and I've somehow managed to avoid shooting myself or any of my loved ones...must be a fvcking miracle I guess.
Maybe after another 14 years or so you will realize that you don't actually NEED a gun. Oh, wait... you HAVE to have one because your constitution allows it. n/m

LOL why the namecalling? Relax, kid. Don't shoot me!

Hunting with a handgun? Sweet! Sounds like good times.

I am trolling, you are correct and I apologize. :D

Yeah you're right. I suppose I *could* kill someone with my hockey stick, with enough determination. Hockey cards also have sharp edges sometimes. Gotta be careful with the model glue too, might OD on that sh|t man.

so did I!

My friend has one in his glovebox. and he has a permit of course, I think the box has to be locked as well. not sure.
If he gets pulled over he does have to inform the cop and he has had the cop go nuts after saying he has it. (pull him out of the car, frisk, cuffs ect..
I don't know why he carries it but the fact is he does.
We are country people too, not from the city... just an idea of our demographic. We hunt and own a lot of guns. No one has shot themselves or anyone else.

Like I said, I have been lucky enough not to ever need to shoot someone. I'd rather have a gun and not need it than need it and not have it.

BTW-Owning guns and shooting is a lot of fun. I do target shooting, sporting clays and I've gone hunting a few times...more like armed hiking really. ;)

I have a .22 at home on the farm. I agree, shooting is a LOT of fun. Cheers, someone here that can actually have a conversation and put up with my "trolling" without blowing a fuse and blocking my subsequent PMs! :)

I live on the crappy side of town and sometimes miss my guns. I left them at my parent?s house. Because, I am not allowed to have guns at my apartment complex, so I guess I am a rule abiding gun owner. Now I just keep the phone and a rosary next to my bed, so I can pray when I get robbed and killed.

Ummm, WTF???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insurance reasons. The same reason I can't have a barbecue on my porch.

...yet I can have a fire in my fireplace *has thought of putting a hibachi in his fireplace*

Wow. I'm sure there's some ridiculous reason that they're legally allowed to directly violate your rights, but I'm truly stunned that such places manage to stay in existence. I can only think of one person I know that would agree to live there (and that's even though half the people I know don't even own a gun...it would be purely on principle).

My dad doesn't like guns either. Just like people blame George Bush for everthing wrong in this country, my dad blames the gun for everthing, even if the crime has nothing to do with a gun.

I think that you owning a gun IS pretty ridiculous.

But if you own one, that would be completely rational of course..

Reasons for me owning a gun and likely other projectile weapons..

1. paranoia
2. nuclear holocaust
3. protection
4. hunting-->you know, in case food supply is low
5. paranoia
6. skill--->just for the mere fact that I'm a marksmen
7. killing hobos in spare time
8. killing hippies in spare time
9. making swiss cheese
10. In case there is pandamonium like in the case of katrina where it was basically FFA---> Protection.

You forgot Zombies.

Zombies would cause pandamonium...

There is nothing wrong with owning a gun.

That being said, I know at least in Illinois, It's illegal to keep a gun in your glove box. While transporting a gun it needs to be in a locked box that's out of reach. Meaning in a box in the trunk ...

word, but why go get one?

I've lived 20 years of my life without needing a gun. My parents have been living for 50+ years without a gun. I think the only time we even got close to needing one was when I got my ass kicked in front of my parents by some newbass thugs.

But seriously, unless you live in some ghetto, I don't see why you need a gun. Hell, if I lived in Oakland/Berkeley for the rest of my life, I don't think I would need a gun

Most people probably don't need a gun.
Just because you don't "Need" something, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't have something.

I have several computers at home, I really only "need" one, but computers are a hobby of mine, and I like having more than one.

We have a lot of things that we don't need but we still like to have.

That being said, IMO it's important that civilians have enough firepower as a whole to overwhelm the government. I am not advocating a revolution or anything like that, but I am advocating that since this nation is "of the people, for the people, and by the people", that "the people" need to have the capability to overthrow the government if it is deemed necessary. I hope it will NEVER EVER EVER EVER need to go that way.

This was seen as a good thing in the era of westward expansion and whatnot.

People ask why have it now. Go take a good look at what happened after hurricane Katrina. The thin veil of civilization was gone and families were getting jacked left and right for basic supplies because the less prepared wanted what they had.

I don't and wouldn't keep a gun in a car. I don't carry one outside of being issued one. I do have one at home.

Katrina was foobar all the way around. Fortunately it spawned the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act so at least some semblemce of reason will hopefully emerge in the next crisis.

...Right...

protection shouldn't be thrown in there as a reason to own a gun.

not to mention hunting... or sport.

True, no one needs a gun. Not one person will suddenly stop breathing if they don't possess a firearm. You also don't need money, clothes, a house, a car, etc. Also please don't attempt to equate age with firearm opinions...I know a LOT more older people with guns than I do young people.

I think it's funny how so many anti-gun Americans are willing to do away with the second amendment. What kind of precedent does that set for the rest of the Bill of Rights?

So many liberal Americans whine about things like the Patriot Act trampling their constitutional rights, but as soon as getting rid of the second amendment comes up in conversation then that's fine.
