the Zune was a good product. I think they ended it far to soon. I have had many different MP3 players.I really like the 80 gig zune my wife has.

i have a old sensa 8 gig and a ipod (my oldest took that to college though_

Really? I wasn't a fan of the Zune. The bigger screen than the iPod Color was nice, but the interface sucked. When they designed the interface, it was prettier but still not as easy to use as that click wheel.

The WiFi feature was basically useless, too. So much potential was lost there... they could have had the first successful streaming music service with that functionality, but they blew it.

claim they fail as software company

support claim with list of hardware failures

I came here to post this. Guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Microsoft is a massive success with software. They are mostly a failure as a hardware company, other than the Xbox.

Hint: Microsoft writes a lot more software than Windows and Word/Excel.

That's pretty much my whole point. And even Office is just an extension to Windows.

An extension to Windows?? It's a separate program, available on Windows and the Mac.

Sure, a lot of vendors bundle the two products on new business PC's, but that just makes good business sense.

You mean a multi-billion-dollar corporation that flourished for 30 years before the iPod even existed? Most likely.

how old are you? 12? Do you have any clue what was going on with Apple in those days?

flourished for 30 years? Again: are you just an idiot, or what?

At best, you could argue that Microsoft is bad at Marketing, and is a terrible hardware company.

But they are a pretty good software company.

The iPod was 2001. These things are readily available in a web search.

Apple would have folded without MS cash injection and return of Jobs to Apple.

I hate Jobs for what he is (thief), but he knows how to sell stuff.

With the exception of SQL Server, Exchange, and a few games, what other programs other than Windows and Office are wildly popular? IIS, Hyper V, and Active Directory do not count, since they are bundled in Windows server.

I know that they have some CRM stuff, but they have a lot of competition in that space.

so...the resounding success of the two most important software packages in the world makes this company a failure?

what the fuck is your point, really?

Office is a product that adds features to Windows. You don't use it without Windows.

"But it runs on Mac too!" Their entire Mac division apparently pulls only $350 million revenue.
And why is that?

Maybe because there aren't nearly as many Macs as there are PCs? Maybe because businesses almost always use PCs, and therefore want the Windows version of Office.

Which has nothing to do with the iMac.

And the iMac has nothing to do with Apple's rebound--the iPod does. That was the point.

You changed to subject, and you were wrong. And has been shown, the iMac was largely thanks to Microsoft.

You do realize that throughout the 90s, Apple was more obscure than Circuit City and Radio Shack, right?

How does one get to be this stupid?

You are contradicting yourself. If Office is solely an extension to Windows, it cannot exist for OSX. BTW, Office is their biggest money maker from the OSX side.

In what planet do you live in where office productivity software is part of the OS?

What is Open Office and WordPerfect in your la la land version of reality?

Maybe he should ask himself why Windows still dominates the PC market and why Linux isn't tearing them a new ass with their free OSes, or why Apple's OSX is nowhere near as common despite only costing $20.

The answers to those questions = /thread.

Why would you knowingly allow these two statements in the same post, back-to-back? Do you no longer care how palpable your ignorance is to the rest of us?

Also, does it not matter in your numbers that Macs represent roughly 3% of the global computing market?

Visual Studio, Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, FAST Search, Expression Studio, Lync, Office 365, Azure, Commerce Server, Forefront, Security Essentials.
