Zune, Surface, and Windows Mobile have all been flops. Xbox, while a popular brand, has been hit or miss as far as commercial success.

90% of their fame is from their operating systems, but even that was just pure luck. DOS wasn't anything close to the best thing available at the time and Windows wouldn't have existed if it weren't for their connections with Apple.

What has Microsoft done that one could consider useful, innovative, or even necessary?
 
Microsoft is huge! They do so much that many products are bound to fail. Yes they have had a large number of failures. Some of their big successes are Outlook/Exchange, Office, SQL Server, Visual Studio. Windows CE/Mobile was a big success until the iPhone came out. Xbox makes billions each year, so I would say it was a success.

All of those things piggyback on Windows.

Yes, Windows was a commercial success, but if it had never been created, Mac OS and Linux would have done the same or better.

I didn't say they failed, I said they aren't very good. Yes, Windows was commercially successful, but nothing else they attempted really mattered. And Windows Mobile is a software product.
 
Sure... when you ignore their entire office product line that is by and large their most successful and popular sector. If you think windows is where MS finds the most success, you need to do some more research.

the fact they are a billion dollar company? the fact they are able to TRY new products and still be in business if they fail? The fact that 90% of the world USES its product?

hell wish i could be as fail as them...🙄


is everything they do a success? no. but a good portion is.
