Wow, well, you already lost all your credibility but I gotta ask: Are you blind by any chance? The cars that they compare it to: American Ricemobile, American Ricemobile, Japanese Ricemobile, Japanese Ricemobile, Japanese Ricemobile, Japanese Ricemobile, and guess what? Another Japanese Ricemobile.

The author of the article obviously felt she had to choose a winner among ricemobiles, and chose Celica. Throwing in a few good words is always good, right? Also, I already said so in the first page but a magazine article =

The fact that you called them all ricemobiles doesn't speak well for you either, but whatever. What is YOUR definition of a soulful car? A Mercedes? A BMW?

Anything else is crap?

His definition is his Always break down A4

LoL, did I say anything about Audis in this thread? No. Did I define soul as Audi? No. Did I define soul as German cars? No.

Obviously you are here to troll. Good job troll :)

YOU PUT THE SOUL IN THE CAR.

A car does not come with a soul, you create one with your relationship with your car.

If you believe a car comes with a soul, then your falling into trap of marketing.

If you can't find a soul in your car, then your not an enthusaist.

It's as simple as that.

ya right... rofl :)

isn't of saying that why don't you argue my point and defend your stance.

Tell me what gives a car a soul?

You think a Jetta has a soul? Well I guess it might, what with its burning-a-hole-in-the-seat seat heaters, falling windows, faulty coilpacks, and creaking dash.

What about other European cars? A Passat as a soul? It's as bland as a Camry with a ritzy interior. It has no redeeming quality apart from that. A new c-class benz? it's one of the blandest products Mercedes ever made. It looks almost Korean. The A4? Sure its a nice car, but it offers nothing really apart from a nice exterior and interior. It doens't match the performance of a 3-series or a G35, it's expensive, and also comes in FWD trim. $30k for a FWD Luxo-boat..wait..thats almost Japanese!

Soul = driving pleasure of its own.

So the car drives itself?

So the Civic has soul if driven by pleasurable driver? :)

This whole soul issue is silly. Which of these things contribute to a car's soul.. tell me plz.

the sweet growl of the exhaust note
feedback from the terrian thru the steering column
smooth shifting manual gear shifter
figuring out the extremes of the chasis and suspension and bodyroll durin hard cornering
well bolstered seats with plenty of support that allow for aggresive driving.
Styling that makes you say 'whoa !'
Interior that you just love to look at and marvel at.

I know i would need all these things to enjoy my car. but which of these contribute to a car's soul

LOL @ Jetta!

That's a completely accurate description of my sister's Jetta. Windows broke. Driver side door did not work. Water pumps mysteriously breaking. The only "good" problem it had was the odometer broke so she drove 50K miles without putting a mile on it. Thankfully it put itself out of its misery by catching fire one evening and self imolating.

Sorry but 350Z, NSX, MR2, Celica, G35 and IS300 have no soul. I either drove or was the passenger in each one of them excep the NSX. But we all know NSX is an overpriced piece of crap, so nothing to discuss there.

Wow, just wow. That's all you need to say right there. Moving on...

Move on then. Putting a Celica in that list killed your credibility. Sorry, thought I would mention that for future reference :)

The Celica is one of the best handling small cars around, but you wouldn't care about that...the Celica name has been around for YEARS.

Sorry, not for the last generation. Also, handling != soul.

Well then, I guess a Miata doesn't have soul by your definition...nor did the last generation SLK or the first Z3. Nor did any of the many British roadsters (MG, Triumphs) that flooded the streets many moons ago. I guess the Mini Cooper/Cooper S doesn't have soul either??

Give it up.

Sorry dude. You don't get the point. Soul = driving pleasure of its own. All the other cars you mentioned above provides that pleasure. Celica sure as hell don't. Of course you'd simply reply by "Give it up" because its obvious that you think posting 853 car threads a day with a link gives you credibility over this issue. Too bad you're wrong.
You've just lost the argument.

EDIT: Ever heard of All-trac?

lol ok, you keep kidding yourself.

What about All-trac? Are you gonna defend All-trac now? Love the All-trac, don't ya? Is that why All-trac got destroyed over and over at rallies?

But... isn't it FUN to drive?

We people think luxury cars in America, they don't say BMW, Mercedes and Cadillac....they say, BMW, Mercedes and Lexus.

I think this is a big point, I work for a multi national firm with offices all over the globe, actually I have worked with a few of them now, and many of the directors I have worked with are all car buffs, many of them are either from London, Australia, Italy or Spain and all of them hold Lexus and any other japanese car in rather low regard. They all feel they are very reliable, but whenever you mention Lexus the instant response is "they are just a toy and not to be considered"...instead they gravitate towards BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche.....

I also remember an article which stated Lexus really has only caught on in the US and European buyers are still not fond of high price japanese cars...not sure if that info is still accurate though.

Personally, no matter how nice I would never consider a lexus.

What he^ said.

And NFS4, Id take the Celica out of those cars in that article, but that doesn't mean Id take compared to some other cars. The Celica is a fine car, so is the RSX, etc, and they do well in their market. And why do you care if he calls them ricemobiles? You arent asian..:p. Besides that, I am sick of these overly PC pansies thinking people are racists if they use such terms.

We are talking about current generation Celica here. All-trac Celicas were manufactured for a limited time in the past. I never said anything bad about the past 6 generations of Celicas.

if you like those things in a car, then that car will have soul to you, which proves my point, you're relationship with the car creates soul.

XeityCOM, your earlier post mentioned that soul = driving fun.

The driving fun comes from you. You can have fun driving ANY car. If your the enthusast type, then pushing the car to its limits brings fun to you. If your the more laid-back type, then cruising along with the music blasting and the sunroof open, is fun to you. You gotta extract the fun.

The best fun I've ever had in a car was throwing around a 1L carb-ed 4-cyl (making all of 70hp) in a 2000lbs 5-spd car around a curvy dirt road. I had a blast! That engine was singing, and the chassis was so responsive and nimble, you could just throw it around and it would follow the line. It was a Maruti Zen (if anyone cares).

And the previous gens of Celicas were crap, except for the first two gens. The last gen was just garbage, it was what the current Eclipse is now.

Except for the Turbo All-trac model, that was pretty cool. But it was still ugly with that frog-eye look.

And the previous gens of Celicas were crap, except for the first two gens. The last gen was just garbage, it was what the current Eclipse is now.

Except for the Turbo All-trac model, that was pretty cool. But it was still ugly with that frog-eye look.

I am glad you are with me on the current Celica. In fact, no more Celica after 2005 (for American market.)

He didn't say current Celica, he said last two generations (unless I misunderstood him)

I didn't say the current Celica is crap, but at the same time I'm not a big fan of it. I heard the 04 Celica had significant improvements under the hood that improved drivability..so that's good. But I wouldn't choose it given its competition.

But I did mean the previous gens are crap, apart from the turbo all-trac, but that was in an era when turbo AWD DSMs were commonplace.

So out of all that stuff I wrote, you could only relate to the Celica quote? Damn. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother participating in these threads, no one hears me.

the sweet growl of the exhaust note
feedback from the terrian thru the steering column
smooth shifting manual gear shifter
figuring out the extremes of the chasis and suspension and bodyroll durin hard cornering
well bolstered seats with plenty of support that allow for aggresive driving.
Styling that makes you say 'whoa !'
Interior that you just love to look at and marvel at.

I know i would need all these things to enjoy my car. but which of these contribute to a car's soul

if you like those things in a car, then that car will have soul to you, which proves my point, you're relationship with the car creates soul.

Well I didn't feel the need to ask you "according to your definition, would a Civic be a fun car if pushed to its limits by an enthusiast?"

i'm not sure what a Civic has to do with anything, but I'll answer anyway....hell yes.

Take a 88 Civic wiht a 5-spd and just drive it as hard as you possibly can in a safe enviroment (auto-x maybe)..so much fun.
