I don't mean he was tailgating me; I mean RIGHT ON my bumper. Not even 12 inches away, I kid you not. I was terrified to even try slowing down slightly... he was THAT CLOSE. I accelerated a little and so did he. The other lane was wide open. He would not pass me. After half a mile of this, I became convinced that this guy wanted to hurt me. So, being the resourceful guy I am, I realized that I had been out at the shooting range earlier that day. I picked up the .44 I had in the other seat and held it in front of my back window where the guy's high beams immediately picked it up. Suddenly he became a safe driver. Problem solved.

Your lucky the other guy didn't have a gun. Thats the last thing you would want to do in any big city.

Now we're supposed to get off the road so people who want to drive like maniacs can drive how they want to drive?

Your simply supposed to move, for a second, and let them pass. Is this concept foreign to you? Have you never seen people do it? Are you stupid?

Find me a driver's manual that says you're supposed to pull onto the shoulder to let someone other than an emergency vehicle go past you when you're already doing the speed limit. Any state will do.

I have never seen a person do that in my life, and no I am not stupid.

Edit: I have on very rare occasions seen school buses and farm equipment do that, but only when they are going below the speed limit and a long line of cars has built up. The OP is talking about going the speed limit.

Well that isn't F-ing fair. So if there is some idiot who drives very slowly on the "left"/"inner" lane, then noone can pass him.

True enough, but my tolerance for taking that guy's sh!t had been exceeded and additionally my safety was in very serious danger. I expected to get hurt one way or another unless I did something. My fear for him taking me out with his vehicle outweighed my fear that he had a gun. Believe me, I weighed it over for a bit.

So because the manual doesnt say it, you've never thought about it?? Ask anyone from Texas. Drivers do that there all the time, they do this all the time in Canada as well. I see it in Colorado too, although not nearly as often as people should do it. In fact, I can only assume you don't travel much AT ALL on highways if you've never seen this. Like I said, its simply the logical thing to do assuming the road is strait enough so that you can see if there is nobody on the shoulder.

I'm sure in alaska you were OK, but I find it suprising that your yet another individual that didn't think

"HEY maybe I should pull off to the shoulder, for just 1 second and let the dude pass"

You could have better assessed his intentions too. Since if he started to pull over with you, then the .44 would be the best option at hand. If he goes on about his business (although the guy is a total @sshole for what he did) you don't have to deal with it any more.

Perhaps if the shoulder didn't contain a snow berm 4 feet high I would have....

You said "Your [sic] simply supposed to move, for a second, and let them pass." Were you basing that on anything or just making sh!t up? Sure, it's a nice thing to do, but don't expect anyone to be nice to you when you've started off by being a dick to them.

Yeah... people are so out of line when they get pissed at you for being a stupid asshole.

I didn't say they did or did not have a right to get pissed at me (if I was doing what the OP described). Sometimes I'm in a hurry, when someone goes flying up on my tail I MOVE OUT OF THE FVCKING WAY. I don't try to cause an accident by being a prick. Since they have the two wrongs make a right attitude (like the OP), I simply take on the same philosophy. Nothing pleases me more then the look on their face after you speed up really quick go to fly around them and suddenly brake check them. Have a dose of your own medicine you fvck.

Now you're just being retarded. You want to hold the old "two wrongs don't make a right" against people who go EXACTLY the speed limit when you start fscking with them, so you create a new "three wrongs DO make a right" by one-upping them by swerving around them and then slamming the breaks?

I hope you wrap yourself around a utility pole. Preferrably without taking anyone down with you.

Try reading between the lines. :p

Yeah, that's why I'm thinking he's not talking about multi-lane roads. Seems like every time someone comes here complaining about being tailgated, everyone assumes he's driving in the left lane of a multi-lane highway.

It doesn't matter if it is a single lane or 100 lanes. The courteous (and logical) thing to do would be to pull over into the shoulder and let the guy pass (if its one lane). Even if you think the guy is an @sshole for driving like that, you never know he could have got a phone call from his daughter while she was about to get raped. Maybe he is running his wife to the hospital. The reasons may be unclear to you but he/she may have a valid reason to want you out of their way. You don't intentionally try to cause an accident and be a complete d!ck like the OP obviously is.

Not to mention - the guy your taking your road rage out on the highway might be a crazy vato homie from the east side. I've heard first hand stories from people in cali who do things like the OP did on the road, only to have a glock pulled out on them. Its so hilarious that even in this day and age, people will simply start fvcking with people they don't know when they could simply drive for 2 seconds on the shoulder and have the guy off their tailgate. Stupidity.

You mean like, say, tailgating then swerving around them to slam on the breaks???

You lack consistency. Or, actually, you fail to apply your own rules to yourself.

True but I don't actually do that. I was hoping to get a rise out of the OP.

But at least I know the difference between brake and break. <~~ See I don't usually use cliche'd AT arguments on grammer and spelling either. Except when I have no better argument to make in defense of myself.

"Its" denotes possession... "It's" is a contraction.

Though, I see you promptly fixed it after going after others' spelling...

;)

Most of these roads that I am talking about have no shoulder, driveways every 100 feet, people(mostly kids) walking and riding their bikes, etc. There is no reason to be driving 15+ mph over the limit.

Why would someone get mad because i am not willing to break the law for their convenience? Would they get mad because I was not stealing because they want to? Or because I wouldn't cheat on my taxes because they wanted to?

And the funniest thing is, when some idiot does decide to pass on a corner in a 25 mph school zone, 9 times out of ten, we end up sitting by each other at the next stop.

I think these are the same people that think the Carpool lane is their personal Autobahn.

And usually, the car behind me looks like giant george adjusted the headlights also.

There is a residential street near me with a speed limit of 40 mph, I get pissed of when drivers there go 25. The sign says 40 so go 40.

Who said anything about going 25 in a 40? That is usually old people or someone lost. The problems usually happens when I am 'only' going the speed limit or 5 over.

It's just about as bad. Here in Texas, in the sticks where there are nothing but one lane roads, people will move to the shoulder to let you pass. Common courtesy.

Just don't drive like an idiot slowpoke in the left lane. If you're in the right lane then move as slow as you'd like.

EDIT: yea .... in residential areas ... I tend to stick to the speed limit and not go much faster .... especially when the sidewalk is really close to the road, or in those towns that don't even have sidewalks ...

Whatever, I just keep driving whichever way I would normally. Don't really care what they do as long as they can maintain control of their own car and not cause damage to anyone else.

The road in particular I am talking about has a 1' shoulder or so and no sidewalks.

I agree and do the same thing. I'm already going a comfortable amount over the speed limit, so if somebody comes up on my tail, they were obviously driving way beyond the speed limit. So, I give them a quick lesson in how to drive the speed limit. Then, if they back off, I resume my original speed. If they stay on my tail, I stay at the speed limit.
