I drive as quickly as anyone out there- but absolutely agree with the above. No excuse for driving quickly through a 35mph residential area - the only areas I always follow the speed limit.

On the highway though, don't be a prick even with morons flying by at +25 mph over the speed limit. A good driver pays attention to his rear view mirror - if you see someone closing up on you quickly, unless there's a ton of traffic, it's easy enough to time them and pull right to let them pass. Why put yourself and them at danger by joining them as a moron?

My beef? Slow drivers through mountain roads who don't use fricking turn-outs.

I get tailgated all the time... and yet I have never *knock on wood* gotten a speeding ticket. Don't get me wrong... I speed when the time is right, on the highway I will do 90/100 or whatever but driving around town, when the cops are all over the friggin place, and little kids running in the streets, I gots to slow down and laugh while the soccer mom's tailgate me while talking on their cellphones and act like I am taking time out of their day... stupid broads(I'd say a worse word but it would get me a vacation, let's just say bad mommies, lol)

Ain't no agressive driver gonna push me into a ticket... they can fly around me and I can laugh when they get nabbed... didn't they know that cop has spent the last ten years in that spot waiting for you? LOL, doomahs.

Yeah if osmoene is behind me riding my bumper and I am not in a hurry I will slow down to the speed limit or under just to piss them off. But I drive with my headlights on 24.7 ....

If that's the area you are talking about, you should be driving 25MPH!!!

I slow down for ALL people who tailgate me. I do not reward aberrant behavior. I simply love making impatient idiots angry... it's not like they will get to the next stoplight any faster but yet they MUST display all that emotion anyway to prove how tough they are behind that wheel.

In college we rigged up an old windshield washer pump with a bottle of ATF so that when the switch was thrown inside the car, the pump would spray ATF into the intake manifold. I dunno if you've ever heard of running ATF through an engine like that to clean our carbon deposits, but in the process is creates A LOT of white smoke.

Yes they do. I think the driving tests should be a LOT harder, as well as the penalties for breaking driving laws MUCH harsher.

i drive the same way home everyday and for 3 miles the limit is 35 this makes people go NUTS so when i look back and i see the jerk passin people left and right i speed up and find another slow car then i slow down right next to him. Roadblock action , then to make it worse ill speed up and get just far enouth ahead so he thinks he can pass . Then i slow down.

After i watch them switch lanes like 4 times i let them go. Its too much fun try it.

i hope you're not going 40-45 in those areas like you say in your OP.

Maybe one day we'll see this get enforced. Just today I was stuck behind a left lane hog on 26 eastbound just before Sylvan, going 45-50, while traffic flows by at 60 on the right. Think the Beaverton PD sitting on the shoulder with the radar gun even moved? Of course not.

I hate when im in the far left lane, going lets say 70mph, there is traffic going 60-65mph in the center lane, and random traffic in the far right lane... so Im passing a row of slow people, and some jerk behind me goes to the right lane to pass everyone, and i have other people behind me wanting to go 75mph

So as soon as i can I want to get over to the right lane to let those people past me... but then i am held up by cars merging from the right lane into the center lane because they caught up with some really slow traffic (hence the ri ght lane) so then i cant get over and am impeding the people passing in the left like they should...

Or even worse, someone is going 90mph in the right lane and whips into the center lane as I am attempting to get into it, and we almost wreck.

But if I am going 70mph, speed limit 55mph, and im passing 60-65 mph traffic in the center lane, and the center lane is packed so I only have room to get over if i want to immediately slow down, why would I do that to allow the people to go 5mph faster just so i have to slow down.

1. Why is passing on the right dangerous? Is it just better to have an understood standard so people don't sideswipe each other trying to get in the same lane?

2. When someone is tailgating me, I flash my brake lights. I can tap the brake just slightly without engaging it but still turn on the light. If they're persistent, I slow down. I've been as low as 10 under

3. I don't drive on the freeway much. When I do I tend to stay out of the left lane. But here's my thing: If I'm doing the speed limit, you have niether reason nor justification for passing me unless it's an emergency.

Just because you're going at the rated speed limit doesn't make you right.

How about going with the flow of traffic.

If the flow of traffic is 65-70 and the rated Speed limit is 55, you're basically clogging up 1 whole lane, which then causes problems in the other lanes.

If people were driving like they are supposed to, this wouldn't be a problem. Mostly I drive on roads that are 5 lanes (2 up, 1 turning, 2 down) rated 40-45, and most people who speed do ~5 over, so it's not really a problem. If I was on the freeway and saw a big stampede behind me, I would most likely get over for everyone's safety.

What kind of little residential have speed limits of 40mph? Doing 50mph in a residential area with kids around is in itself breaking the law and a ticketable offense.

It's the people that cause and stir up road rage for no reason at all that are dangerous in the road.

1) Fast people + Slow People in slow lane = bad
2) Right lane is typically where traffic merges onto the highway, also slower
3) As you mentioned, left lane and right lane trying to merge into the center lane is disaster waiting to happen

Top 3 I can think of offhand at the end of my shift. I almost never pass in right lane, I do sometimes because asses in the left lane going very slow... but.. meh

When someone's tailgating you, turn your headlights on. They think you've put your brakes on and you can sometimes get people slamming on their brakes whilst you cruise away. It makes me laugh.

how the hell would they confuse your headlights with brake lights?
